Upon hearing this, Geng recalled that Wu Kuzha had mentioned to her earlier at dinner the woman Hongzhou had helped. Geng had felt a sense of goodwill towards this woman when she heard that she was determined to repay the debt.
Today, seeing that the bonsai she was so pleased with was made by her, she felt even more that Qiu Yun was quite good. Then, Geng nodded in satisfaction and said to the head of the flower room, "This girl will serve at Yirong Courtyard from now on."
"Yes, Your Majesty." The eunuch then nudged Qiu Yun, who was standing there dumbfounded, and hurriedly said, "What are you still standing there for? Hurry up and thank Your Majesty."
Upon hearing this, Qiu Yun immediately knelt down and said, "Thank you for your kindness, Your Highness. In the future, this servant will definitely serve Your Highness well."
"Alright, get up." After saying that, Madam Geng turned around and returned to Rongyi Courtyard with her personal maid and Qiuyun.
That evening, Hongzhou, as usual, came to Yirong Courtyard for dinner with Wukuzha. As soon as they entered the courtyard, Wukuzha noticed that there were some uniquely trimmed bonsai in the room. The pruning techniques of these bonsai were quite different from those in the other courtyards.
Wu Kuzha thought it was very beautiful, and then said, "Mother, the potted plants in this courtyard are very beautiful. I wonder who in the flower room made them?"
Upon hearing this, Madam Geng smiled slightly and said with satisfaction, "This is all thanks to Hongzhou's kindness. If it weren't for Hongzhou, I wouldn't have been able to enjoy such a unique bonsai." Madam Geng looked at the bonsai beside her and sighed, "I didn't expect Qiuyun to be so skillful."
"Qiuyun? Is this the new gardener that Mother found?" Hongzhou asked in confusion. Several days had passed, and he had long forgotten the maid who had performed the grand ceremony for him and Wukuzha that day.
Seeing the puzzled looks on Wu Kuzha's and Hongzhou's faces, Geng knew that the two of them had long forgotten, so she said to Hongzhou, "It is the girl you gave kindness to who sold herself to bury her father."
Upon hearing Geng's words, Hongzhou and Wukuzha understood, and then remembered the woman who had come to the mansion to become a servant in order to repay a debt of gratitude.
So Wu Kuzha asked, "Why is she on duty here with Mother?"
Lady Geng then told them, “I saw that she was skillful and her pruning of potted plants was very much to my liking, so I took Qiu Yun into my courtyard to take care of the flowers and plants in Rongyi Courtyard.”
Seeing that Geng liked the maid, Hongzhou and Wukuzha didn't say much. Wukuzha nodded and said, "I see. Since you are so satisfied, Mother, that's good."
After dinner, Wu Kuzha stayed with Geng for a while. As winter approached, people tended to get drowsy faster. Hongzhou, seeing Geng chatting happily with Wu Kuzha, said, "Mother, it's getting late. Your son and Wu Kuzha will go back first."
Seeing that Hongzhou was about to leave, Madam Geng felt it would be inappropriate to keep the two of them in Rongyi Courtyard any longer, so she nodded and said, "Alright then, you two may leave."
"Thank you, Mother. Mother, you should rest early too. Your son takes his leave." With that, Hongzhou led Wu Kuzha out of Rongyi Courtyard.
On the way back to the main courtyard, Wu Kuzha looked at Hongzhou, who was holding her hand, and said, "I didn't expect that Qiuyun to win Mother's favor."
“Yes, when you and I are not in the manor, Mother gets bored alone in Rongyi Courtyard. It’s good to have someone who can please her to keep her company, so she can live a more pleasant life,” Hongzhou nodded.
