Suzhi searched under Qiuyun's pillow and found something—a piece of kraft paper. She took out the paper bag, opened it, and looked inside. There were only some calligraphy brushes, letter paper, and a little ink stick.
Suzhi searched under her bedding again, but still found nothing.
"What are you doing!" Qiu Yun returned with water and saw Su Zhi standing in front of her bed, turning over and over. She was so angry that she slammed the water bucket down on the ground.
"I... I just saw a gecko over here, and it looks like it climbed onto your bed, so I was checking it out to make sure it didn't frighten you," Suzhi said, caught red-handed.
"I'm very grateful for your kindness, sister, but I don't like others touching my bed. I'll trouble you not to rummage through my things again in the future," Qiu Yun said with a stern face.
Suzhi didn't explain further. She walked over, took the water that Qiuyun had brought back, and forced a smile, saying, "Sister, do you have some treasure hidden away that makes you so reluctant to let anyone touch your things? Actually, what do we servants have? I'll go wash up first."
Suzhi took the hot water to the outer wing of the house, leaving Qiuyun behind.
Qiu Yun hurriedly ran to her bedside and felt for the thing hidden under her pillow. She found it was still there. She breathed a sigh of relief.
In fact, what she was hiding were those writing brushes, ink, paper, and inkstones, because those letters were indeed written by Qiu Yun, which is why she absolutely could not let anyone see her things.
Meanwhile, Suzhi was thinking about it in the side room. She felt that what she had seen on Qiuyun's bed was quite strange, so she put down the basin and went outside.
"What? You saw those things?" The butler asked in surprise after hearing Suzhi's report.
“Indeed, Steward Qiu, I’m curious, why would a girl who tends flowers and plants keep those things, and treat them like treasures, as if she’s afraid someone will see them?” Suzhi said.
"Could it be something left behind by someone she cared about?" the butler pondered.
“I asked her, and she said she has no relatives left. Judging from her tone, I don’t even want to go out,” Suzhi said.
“Alright, you can go back now. I will report to the Prince and keep an eye on her,” Steward Qiu said to Suzhi.
After Suzhi returned, Steward Qiu also put on his clothes and went to Hongzhou's study.
After he met Hongzhou, he discovered Suzhi's secrets.
"She can actually write?" That was Hongzhou's first reaction.
"This servant does not know, but Suzhi and Qiuyun are very protective of those things and usually do not allow anyone to get close. Suzhi found this while she was out fetching water and hid it in her pillow," Steward Qiu reported, bowing his head.
"Alright, I understand. Find an opportunity to ask her if she can write," Hongzhou said.
The butler left as instructed, but Hongzhou was pondering why Qiuyun had hidden those papers and pens like treasures, not letting anyone see them.
Meanwhile, Qiu Yun was already in bed. She suddenly had a bad feeling. Was her identity being questioned? Today, Su Zhi was obviously trying to trick her into revealing information, asking about her family and past time and time again, and even going through her things while she was fetching water.
She tossed and turned, unable to sleep, probably realizing that she was in a dangerous situation. She thought that if she could fulfill her father's last wish, she could take her mother away.
