Meanwhile, Lanqin and Nianxue arrived at Yanyu's courtyard. Chuntao hurriedly bowed and said, "Greetings, Princess Niu. My princess is in the main courtyard, you..."
Before she could finish speaking, Lanqin interrupted, "This princess has come to see the young prince. The princess is investigating who is trying to harm him. Please take me there quickly."
Chun Tao, unaware of what was going on, had no choice but to lead Lan Qin and the others to the young prince's room. When they reached the door, they saw a coal stove with a medicine pot on top, bubbling away as medicine was being simmered.
Lanqin glanced at it, and with Nianxue's help, lifted the bamboo curtain and went into the house.
The ice in the cloisonné basin was melting, but the room was shrouded in gloom, with two wet nurses who served the young prince squatting by the bed and weeping.
Lanqin glanced at the young prince from afar and could only see him lying on the bamboo mat, trembling slightly, with his hands and feet twitching a little.
Doctor Wu was still frowning as he took the young prince's pulse.
"Dr. Wu, what's wrong with the young prince? Is he poisoned?" Lanqin disregarded etiquette and stepped forward to ask.
The two wet nurses quickly greeted them, but did not move.
"Your Highness, I am taking your pulse. I have already instructed them to prepare some detoxifying soup. However, the young prince is too young. If we don't detoxify him soon, I'm afraid..." Doctor Wu, seeing Lanqin arrive, concealed the surprise in his eyes and said respectfully.
"Why are you two squatting here crying? The little prince is not in any danger!" Lanqin wanted to go forward to check carefully, but the two wet nurses blocked the bed, preventing her from getting close.
The two looked at each other for a day, quickly wiped away their tears, but still refused to get up.
"Grannies, I just saw the medicine on the stove at the door look like it's boiling. Aren't you going to go check it out?" Nianxue said cleverly.
"Thank you for coming to see the young prince, Princess Niu. However, the young prince is not feeling well right now, so please don't come too close to avoid catching his illness. You are pregnant, so please sit over there." One of the wet nurses with a pointed face stood up and said, while the other lifted her skirt and walked past Lanqin, probably to check on the medicine being decocted outside.
“It’s alright, the little prince was poisoned, and this poison is contagious.” Lanqin immediately stepped forward, ignoring the sharp-faced wet nurse’s obstruction. With her belly protruding, the wet nurse naturally dared not do anything.
“This old woman, our princess came to see the young prince out of kindness, and this is how you treat her? The princess has been traveling all this way and is parched, and you won’t even offer her a cup of water? Is this how your princess treats her guests?” Nianxue said, knowing what Lanqin meant.
The sharp-faced old woman was already awkwardly positioned between Lanqin and Doctor Wu, and now that Nianxue had said this, she had no choice but to step forward, curtsy to Lanqin, and say, "This servant has been impolite. I will go and pour a cup of tea for the princess."
Lanqin nodded and glanced at Nianxue with a smile.
This girl is becoming increasingly eloquent these days.
After the two wet nurses left one after the other, Lanqin sat down by the young prince's bedside.
She took a closer look and saw that the child's eyelids were tightly closed and his hands and feet were indeed twitching.
"Dr. Wu, Penguin has thought of a way to find out whether the young prince has been poisoned or not," Lanqin said in an extremely gentle tone.
"Please give your instructions, Your Highness." Doctor Wu remained seated by the bedside, showing no intention of leaving.
"Dr. Wu, did you bring any silver needles? I heard that if you take a little blood from the poisoned person and put it in a bowl, and then mix it with other medicinal herbs, you can quickly find out what kind of poison it is," Lanqin said.
Although Lin Mengyao studied history, she has a mother who studied traditional Chinese medicine.
Upon hearing this, Doctor Wu realized that she had indeed guessed their method of testing for poison. He could only smile and say, "Your Highness is right. I will go and fetch the small bowl and silver needles right away."
Doctor Wu wasn't unaware of this method, but since the young prince wasn't poisoned at all, he naturally wouldn't use it. The so-called antidote outside was nothing more than ordinary brown sugar and ginger water. He hadn't expected that this little princess would point out his oversight so quickly.
In order to prevent her from discovering his eccentricities, Dr. Wu had no choice but to fetch the tools for testing blood for poison.
Seeing that the three had been dismissed, Lanqin immediately reached out and pried open the young prince's mouth. She looked at the tip and base of his tongue, then unwrapped the clothes covering him and looked at his fingertips.
There are no signs of poisoning at all. In cases of poisoning, the tongue and fingertips are most likely to turn bluish-purple.
Lanqin breathed a sigh of relief. As long as the young prince wasn't poisoned, his life wasn't in danger; he was just suffering a little for some reason. Sister Geng wouldn't be implicated too deeply; there would always be a way to help him through this ordeal.
Why did the child have convulsions?
After Lanqin tidied up the little prince's clothes, she quietly looked at the small body that had suffered so much.
"Princess, what's wrong with the little prince? Why is he convulsing?" Nianxue couldn't help but ask.
Lanqin looked at the young prince, pondered for a moment, then suddenly raised her head and asked, "Could it be that the young prince has had a seizure?"
A seizure?!
Nianxue repeated it, and then they heard the sound of the flowerpot bottom tapping on the ground.
The bamboo curtain was lifted, and the Fujin, with her gentle face, entered first, followed by Doctor Wu, Yan Yu, Wang Shi, Wu Shi, and finally Song Shi and Geng Shi with their respective maids. Two wet nurses followed, one carrying medicine and the other a cup of tea.
"Why is Princess Niu here instead of staying with me?" The Princess Consort clearly already knew about Lanqin's visit from Doctor Wu, so she wasn't too surprised.
"My belly is quite big, and it's not comfortable to sit for long. I was worried about this poor child, so I came to see him." Lanqin naturally stood up with Nianxue's help and moved to the side.
The princess walked with utmost grace to the young prince's bedside and stood in the same spot where Doctor Wu had been standing.
"Dr. Wu, could you please examine this package?" The lady of the house looked at the child and handed a small red paper package she was holding to Dr. Wu, who was standing nearby.
Lanqin's eyes swept over everyone, naturally landing on Song Shi and Geng Shi standing at the back.
Song frowned and looked at her, then saw that Geng was silent, as if she was in a daze.
Everyone stood there quietly when Yan Yu suddenly yelled at the two wet nurses in a shrill voice, "You two are being lazy and negligent just because I'm not here for a moment. Why isn't the little prince covered with his blanket properly?"
Then, one of the young prince's feet kicked out, right where Lanqin had just been looking. Perhaps she hadn't arranged it properly, because the young prince twitched and kicked out.
