Lanqin stretched, her bones aching from sitting, and with a yelp, she bent down to rub her knees.
Yu Xiao, who was standing nearby, immediately knelt down to massage Lan Qin's hands, muttering, "The concubine has been exhausted all day, and they don't even care. They just keep chatting with her..."
Lanqin smiled, gently patted Yuxiao's head, and said with a mixture of reproach and affection, "You can't control your mouth. You can't be so disrespectful when you get to the palace..."
Yu Xiao stuck out her tongue and chuckled, "Anyway, I'm with the concubine, who would dare to bully me?"
“Their concerns are not unfounded,” Lanqin said quietly.
Yu Xiao didn't hear clearly and asked, "Secondary Consort? What did you just say?"
"No, it's nothing. It's too late, you should all go and rest..." Lanqin smiled and gestured for Yuxiao to leave, but Yuxiao only left reluctantly after Lanqin urged him repeatedly, leaving Lanqin alone in the study.
Yu Xiao's words had just stung Lan Qin's heart. She hadn't realized that so many people wanted to rely on her—the Wu family, the Song family, and the Geng family. Lan Qin could disregard all of them, but what about Hongli and Hongzhou? They were the people Lan Qin worried about the most. Lan Qin felt somewhat dejected and troubled.
"Your Highness?" Lanqin walked to the desk and slowly organized the Fourth Prince's books and writing materials. She carefully thought about the hardships and grievances he had endured all this time, and felt a pang of heartache. But everyone only saw the Fourth Prince's current glory and hoped that he could rise above others in one day. Who had ever felt sorry for how much effort the Fourth Prince had put in to achieve everything he had today, and how many grievances he had suffered that no one knew about?
Lanqin didn't want to cause Fourth Master any trouble; she only hoped that she could bring him a moment of peace.
But the Fourth Prince was finally about to ascend the throne, finally about to become the master of the Qing Dynasty, the master of that palace, the Prince Yong of history. His status as emperor destined the Fourth Prince to never be what Lanqin hoped for.
Lanqin walked to the window and opened it. A gust of cold wind rushed in, instantly calming Lanqin's restless and agitated mood.
Lanqin gazed at the location of the palace, the place where she would eventually live. She was both familiar with and afraid of that palace. She didn't know how much treachery and life-or-death struggle would ensue there, nor how long she could endure it. But the thought of the Fourth Prince, Hongli, and Hongzhou warmed her heart…
Suddenly, a figure carrying a lantern approached. Lanqin didn't see clearly at first and thought it was the Fourth Master returning. She turned around excitedly, pushed open the door, and went to greet him. But upon closer inspection, she realized it wasn't the Fourth Master, but Su Peisheng!
Seeing Lanqin's shift from surprise to disappointment, Su Peisheng guessed that she must have mistaken him for a prince, and greeted her with a smile. Lanqin, lacking enthusiasm, replied with a faint smile, "Why did you come back alone? Where is the prince?"
"This servant is here on the orders of the Prince to receive the Consort..." Su Peisheng said gracefully, smiling as he looked at Lanqin.
"Consort, shall we go? The Prince has been waiting for half a day. If we wait any longer, he will get anxious and punish me. Consort, you must put in a good word for me..." After saying that, he made a gesture of invitation. Lanqin bit her lip, thinking that after so many days, he still remembered her.
There was already a carriage outside the gate, but it wasn't from the Yong Prince's residence. Lanqin, dressed in a black cloak, quietly followed Su Peisheng out of the mansion through the side gate. Before leaving, she specifically summoned Yuxiao and Baoqin, instructing them not to reveal a single word to anyone.
