The three chatted and laughed until lunchtime, when the head nanny sent someone to deliver a message.
"Consort, the head nanny says we should invite you over. The people from the Fucha household are making a scene in the front yard," the servant reported at the door.
"Alright, go back and tell the head nanny that I'm coming. Tell the people from the Fucha family to be patient!" Lanqin said, looking at Madam Song and Madam Wu.
After the servant left, Madam Wu said impatiently, "These people from the Fucha family are really audacious, daring to make a scene here!"
"It seems they're afraid the Prince will punish Lady Fucha, so they're determined to stop him," Lanqin said, frowning.
"Qin'er, let's go together. Don't be afraid, we'll go together!" said Madam Song.
"I'm not afraid of them, I'm just a little worried about things in the palace. That's why I called you all here," Lanqin said. She was naturally not afraid of the people in the Fucha family; she just wanted Song Shi and Wu Shi to come and talk with her to dispel the worries swirling in her heart.
"In the palace? What's going on in the palace?" Wu asked in surprise.
"Last night, the Prince was summoned to Changchun Garden. My two sisters, we need to be prepared. Now that the main courtyard is not involved in affairs, we need to start preparing things for the Prince." Lanqin couldn't help but reveal a few things to Madam Song and Madam Wu.
"Qin'er, what exactly happened?" Seeing that Lanqin spoke with such seriousness, Madam Song asked.
"You'll know when the time comes. Let's go see the people from the Fucha Mansion first," Lanqin said, holding back her words.
The three of them slowly walked out of the south courtyard and headed towards the front yard. As they entered the front yard, they saw the head nanny standing at the door, looking around. When she saw Lanqin finally arrive, she hurriedly came to greet her.
"This old servant greets Consort Wu, Consort Song, and Consort Wu!" The head nanny curtsied.
"Who are they? What did they say?" Lanqin asked.
"These are two of Princess Fucha's cousins. They say their mother is ill and they request that Princess Fucha be allowed to return to her parents' home to visit her," said the head nanny.
"This is outrageous! Lady Fucha is a princess of this household. How can they just go back whenever they want? If the concubine doesn't agree, and the prince doesn't agree, Lady Fucha won't be able to leave this mansion!" Lady Wu said, her eyebrows raised in anger.
“That’s exactly the point. That’s what I told them too. But they wouldn’t listen. They said that the Marquis of Fucha’s household has a good relationship with the Prince and would definitely agree to such a request,” the head nanny said.
“The Prince is still at Changchun Garden, how could he agree to his request?” Lanqin said immediately. “It seems their purpose in coming here is to take Lady Fucha away. We must not let them take her away.”
Lanqin and the other two followed the head nanny into the reception room in the front yard. Inside, they saw two men dressed in silver-gray robes, each with two attendants standing behind them.
"My two cousins, this is our stewardess, the concubine. She's here now. If you have anything else to say, just tell her," the head nanny said hurriedly to the two men.
The two immediately stood up, nodded to Lanqin, and said, "We've heard that Consort is in charge. Today we've come to take our sister back. Our master has already informed the Prince, so please be accommodating, Consort."
Lanqin knew they were lying, but she couldn't expose them outright. She said, "It's really unfortunate that Madam Fucha can't go back with you today. A few days ago, at the Prince's request, she was diligently chanting sutras and praying for the safety of the manor. If your old lady is ill, I can ask Sister Fucha to pray for her mother as well."
