The next day, Wei Shuangxue, despite her aching and weak body, got up to help Kangxi get dressed.
Looking at the woman's pale face, Kangxi felt a rare pang of guilt. He had indeed been too indulgent last night.
He had a change of heart and raised his hand to press down Wei Shuangxue's hand that was serving him, saying gently, "You've been working hard all night, go and get some rest. Let the eunuchs take care of these things."

Upon hearing that Wei Shuangxue had been granted the title of Lady-in-Waiting by the Emperor, and that this newly appointed Lady-in-Waiting was coming to pay her respects, Wu Yaxin felt a pang of resentment.
Although she ultimately brought this situation upon herself, she still felt heartbroken when she actually faced it.
Using the excuse that she was in postpartum confinement, Wu Yaxin did not see her, but only instructed Yuyin to appear on her behalf.
Wei Shuangxue feigned fear and said many words of loyalty to Yu Yin to maintain her persona.
After visiting his former master, the next step was to go to the main hall of Chengqian Palace to pay respects to the Empress Dowager Tong.
Wei Shuangxue arrived early and didn't linger too long at Wu Yaxin Yue's place. When she arrived at the main hall, Yun Yi was still sleeping and hadn't gotten up.
Wei Shuangxue didn't care at all. She propped herself up and leaned against Cai Qiao without making it obvious, in order to relieve her physical fatigue.
After waiting for an unknown amount of time, Ruoqin respectfully came out of the main hall. She said to Wei Shuangxue apologetically, "I've kept Consort Wei waiting. Her Highness the Imperial Noble Consort has risen. Please come in, Consort Wei."
Wei Shuangxue smiled faintly, showing no airs of a mistress whatsoever, and kept saying that it was alright.
Following Ruoqin into the main hall, Yunyi had just finished breakfast and was standing there digesting.
Wei Shuangxue entered and respectfully bowed to the Imperial Noble Consort.
Yunyi waved her hand, signaling her to rise, and then offered her a seat.
Feeling somewhat flattered, Wei Shuangxue sat down, looked up at Yun Yi, and gave her a wink.
Understanding the situation, Yunyi smiled and waved away the palace maids around her, including Wei Ying's maid Cai Qiao, telling them to wait outside.
Cai Qiao was puzzled, thinking that the Imperial Noble Consort might be up to something bad, and she looked at her mistress with some worry.
Wei Shuangxue gave Cai Qiao a reassuring look and told her to leave.
With worries in her heart, Cai Qiao followed the others and retreated.
After everyone else had left, Wei Shuangxue knelt down with a thud. She raised her head, her eyes showing no fear, but rather a serious expression.
"Does Your Highness still remember what you said to me back then?"
Seeing Wei Shuangxue's expression, Yun Yi sighed softly and said in a leisurely tone, "I remember, how could I not remember!"
"Back then, you stopped me and asked me to help you take revenge and bring down Consort Wuya. Although I disagreed, I was moved by your story and reluctantly agreed to provide you with assistance."
Glancing at the woman kneeling on the ground, Yunyi asked, "After all these years, do you still think the same way? Wuya is a Noble Lady, one of the Emperor's concubines. It won't be easy to bring her down. Do you really want to..."
