Consort Rong was holding a crying baby in her arms. She was swaying slightly and speaking in a loving tone, soothing the baby. It was undoubtedly the Tenth Prince.
"What's wrong? Why is the Tenth Prince crying?" Yunyi stepped forward and asked.
Consort Rong only noticed someone approaching when she heard the question. She bowed first while holding the child, but Yunyi interrupted her, saying, "Alright, the child is more important. Don't be so formal."
Consort Rong replied with a hint of helplessness, "Just now, I was holding the little prince while admiring the flowers. I saw a crabapple tree that was growing exceptionally well, so I stopped to look at it for a while. I didn't expect the little prince to take a liking to it and insist on picking it. When I refused, he started to cry and fuss, which disturbed Your Majesty's enjoyment of the flowers."
Thinking something serious had happened, Yunyi waved her hand to indicate she didn't mind. "It's alright, I was just looking around and wasn't disturbed."
Seeing that she didn't blame him, Consort Rong felt relieved and continued to soothe the child. Gradually, the little prince stopped crying. He opened his big, wet eyes and stared blankly at Yun Yi with a hint of curiosity in them.
Yunyi was overjoyed to see him and wanted to hug him and pinch his chubby little face, but due to her status and the fact that she didn't have his mother's permission, she couldn't do it.
As if sensing Yunyi's thoughts, Consort Rong smiled and said, "Since Your Majesty likes the little prince, why not hold him yourself?"
"May I do it?" Yunyi asked in surprise.
"Yes!" Consort Rong nodded in agreement.
Yunyi received permission and carefully took the little prince from Consort Rong's arms. Her hands and feet were stiff, and she dared not move casually.
Amused by Yunyi's posture at this moment, Consort Rong smiled and stepped forward to instruct, "Your Majesty, relax your body, support your head with one hand and your legs with the other, just hold yourself naturally, there's no need to be so tense."
Emperor Kangxi was handsome, Consort Rong was a stunning beauty, so the Tenth Prince was naturally not bad-looking either.
The baby in your arms is fair and tender, with chubby cheeks, big eyes looking at you, and a smile on his lips. He's so cute that he melts your heart.
Yunyi hugged the Tenth Prince for a while, then reluctantly returned him to Consort Rong. A hug means someone trusts you and feels close to you, but you can't go too far and hold on forever. After all, she and Consort Rong weren't particularly familiar with each other, so she needed to maintain a proper distance.
The wet nurse stepped forward to take the young prince. Since they had already met, Consort Rong suggested that the two of them simply stroll around the garden together.
After strolling around for a while, Yunyi's feet were getting tired from walking in her platform shoes, as were Rongpin's. They happened to see a small pavilion ahead, so they went over to rest for a while.
The palace maids who were attending to them first stepped forward to make arrangements, placing cushions on the stone benches and setting out tea and snacks before Yunyi and Consort Rong went in and sat down.
The pavilion is located near the lake, with a garden on one side and a lake view on the other. It has an excellent location. In summer, you can enjoy the breeze mixed with the fragrance of flowers. It is a great place to enjoy the scenery in the Imperial Garden. However, now that it has entered autumn, the place is a bit chilly.
The little prince was restless. Once inside the pavilion, he kept fidgeting in his wet nurse's arms, making "ah ah oh oh" noises as he tried to express to the adults that he wanted to go outside.
Consort Rong found it amusing and could only let the wet nurse carry the little prince to continue strolling in the garden.
Without the children to disturb them, the two adults could talk in peace in the pavilion.
Consort Rong casually mentioned what the Empress had said yesterday, and said to Yunyi with a light smile, "Does Your Highness know that you were not required to pay your respects to the Empress today? However, Consort An went to Kunning Palace early this morning. I believe Your Highness knows why."
Yunyi woke up late this morning, ate lunch right after getting up, and then strolled around the Imperial Garden. She had never heard of this before, and was a little puzzled. "Oh, Consort An is in such a hurry?" But then she remembered Consort An's attempt to stop her when she left Kunning Palace, and she understood. "But I can understand. Yesterday when I left Kunning Palace, she wanted to discuss it with me, but I didn't want to pay attention to her, so I left quickly."
Consort Rong chuckled and said, "Although Her Majesty the Empress said that if you have any ideas, you can express your feelings to her, it is rare to see someone as straightforward and open as Consort An. In the harem, everyone thinks things through carefully before acting, considering all aspects. But she is different; she does whatever comes to mind without any regard for the consequences. She is quite an anomaly."
Consort Rong and Yunyi were chatting idly in a friendly atmosphere when the wet nurse returned with the crying little prince. After curtsying, she reported, "Your Majesty, the little prince misses his mother. No matter how I try to comfort him, I can't soothe him. So I had to bring him back to find Your Majesty."
Feeling happy to be relied upon by her son, Consort Rong didn't say much. "It's alright, let me hold the little prince."
Strangely, the child who had been crying incessantly just moments before stopped crying as soon as he entered his mother's arms. He buried his face in Consort Rong's chest, becoming drowsy and barely able to keep his eyes open.
Consort Rong knew that her son was fussy and needed to be put to sleep by herself. The wet nurse couldn't get him to sleep, so she adjusted him to a more comfortable position and gently patted his back. Slowly, the little prince fell asleep.
As autumn arrived and the weather gradually cooled down, Consort Rong, fearing that the young prince might catch a cold while sleeping outside, got up and took her leave from Yunyi.
"Very well, I've been wandering around outside for quite a while now, and I'm tired enough to return to the palace."
Consort Rong gestured, and the wet nurse obeyed, stepping forward to take the little prince from Consort Rong's arms. Consort Rong certainly couldn't carry him alone on the way back to Zhongcui Palace, otherwise her arms would get incredibly tired; such a task naturally had to be done by a strong wet nurse.
