Chapter 13 Material Shortage

Lin Feng's words brought the Lin family members, who were immersed in joy, back to their senses.

Mr. Lin slapped his forehead, annoyed, "Oh dear, I was so happy that I forgot about this! All the dozens of clothes have been sold out, and there isn't even a decent piece of fabric left."

Lin's mother frowned as well: "It's already late, and the fabric shops have long since closed. If we go to buy fabric first thing tomorrow morning, I'm afraid we won't be able to make the new clothes in time."

Lin Yun put down her teacup and glanced at the empty shelves.

After a moment of contemplation, she said, "Father, Mother, we made more than nine taels of silver today. Why don't we buy more fabric tomorrow, and also get the embroidery thread and accessories ready? As for tomorrow's business..." She paused, a sly glint in her eyes, "I have an idea."

Lin Feng leaned closer curiously: "What idea?"

Lin Yun smiled slightly: "We can put up a notice in advance saying that new styles will arrive the day after tomorrow, but the quantity is limited and it will be first come, first served. In this way, we can retain customers and also buy time to rush to make new clothes."

Mr. Lin nodded: "That's a good idea, but we have to write the notice tonight and hang it up as soon as we open the door tomorrow morning."

Lin Yun stood up and said, "I'll go write the notice. Father and Mother, you should rest first. You've had a long day."

Lin Feng quickly followed, saying, "I'll help you."

In the stillness of the night, Lin Yun was writing furiously at her desk, while Lin Feng watched silently from the side.

After the notice was written, she asked her older brother to copy it, since her calligraphy was really bad.

Lin Feng couldn't help but ask, "Yun'er, are we really going to hire people tomorrow?"

Lin Yun looked up at him and said seriously, "Brother, you saw the business today. Our family alone can't handle it all. Besides, if we take on custom orders, we'll need even more manpower."

Lin Feng scratched his head: "I'm just worried that if we hire people, business might not be as good later on..."

Lin Yun closed the ledger and said firmly, "Brother, the reason our clothes sell so well is because of their novel designs and exquisite workmanship."

"As long as we maintain this advantage, business will only get better and better. Moreover, I've already thought it through: we can split into two lines: one to produce regular ready-to-wear clothing in large quantities; and the other to offer high-end custom-made clothing in high quality. This way, we can stabilize our income and improve our reputation."

Lin Feng nodded repeatedly, his eyes full of admiration: "Yun'er, you're getting more and more resourceful!"

Lin Yun smiled and said softly, "Big brother, if we work together, things will definitely get better for our family."

The next day, just as dawn broke, Lin's father hurriedly went to the largest cloth shop in the west of the city.

The cloth shop owner had just opened the door when he saw Mr. Lin arrive so early. He greeted him with a smile, "Mr. Lin, you're here so early today?"

Lin's father wiped the sweat from his forehead and said with a smile, "We ran out of fabric at home, so we came here specifically to buy more."

As he spoke, he pulled out a list from his pocket, which was filled with various fabrics and accessories.

The cloth shop owner took the list and exclaimed in surprise, "Wow, Mr. Lin is going to make a big splash!" The list not only included common coarse cloth and fine linen, but also several bolts of fine silk and embroidery thread, several times more than usual.

Mr. Lin nodded: "Business is alright, I'd like to stock up on more fabric." While instructing his employees to prepare the goods, the cloth shop owner tentatively asked: "I heard that your shop's clothes were sold out yesterday, is that true?"

Mr. Lin smiled modestly: "I was lucky, the guests were very supportive."

A hint of envy flashed in the fabric shop owner's eyes, and he said proactively, "Mr. Lin, in the future, whatever fabric you need, just let me know, and I'll give you the most favorable price!"

Mr. Lin thanked him repeatedly, but he knew in his heart that this was the benefit of doing well in business—even the suppliers had started to curry favor with him.

Meanwhile, a prominent notice has been hung at the entrance of Lin's Clothing Store: "New styles will arrive tomorrow. Limited quantities available, first come, first served."

Passersby stopped to watch, and one asked curiously, "Madam, aren't you selling clothes today?"

Lin's mother explained with a smile, "We're organizing the merchandise today, and new clothes will be on the shelves tomorrow. Come and take a look then, and I guarantee you'll be satisfied!"

Lin Yun sat in the shop, sorting through the custom orders left by yesterday's customers, and said to Lin Feng, "Brother, when Father comes back later, we need to split up. You go and find out where there are skilled embroiderers, and Mother will find a few reliable tailors."

Lin Feng nodded: "Okay, I'll go right away."

“Okay, I know this well.” Lin’s mother nodded.

Just then, Lin's father returned carrying several bolts of cloth, followed by a shop assistant from the cloth shop pushing a cart full of fabric.

Seeing this, Lin Yun quickly stepped forward to help unload the goods. Lin Yun glanced at them and found that there were not only fabrics, but also various embroidery threads and Chinese knot buttons, and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Mr. Lin put down the fabric, wiped his sweat, and said to Lin Yun, "Yun'er, the shop owner said that from now on, we can just go and get whatever fabric we need, and settle the bill at the end of the month."

Lin Yun's eyes lit up: "This is great news! It means our credibility has been established."

Mr. Lin nodded with a smile: "Yes, we never dared to dream of such treatment before."

After lunch, Lin Feng brought back news of the two embroiderers.

They were originally maids in wealthy families in the city, with superb skills. Later, when their masters fell into ruin, they started taking on odd jobs.

Lin Yun met them in person, tested their embroidery skills, and was very satisfied. She immediately agreed on the wages and the deadline.

On the other side, Lin's mother also found two old tailors who had worked in clothing shops for many years and were very experienced. However, they were getting old, and it was the off-season, so they came out to find some odd jobs.

Lin Yun showed them the new design, and the two praised it highly, immediately agreeing to help.

As evening fell, the Lin family sat together, and the father said with some concern, "We've hired four people at once; the wages won't be low..."

Lin Yun comforted them, "Father, Mother, don't worry. As long as the business is doing well, these wages are nothing. Besides, now that we have manpower, we can take on more orders, and the profits will only be higher."

Lin Feng chimed in, "Yes, today a customer even asked if we could customize a wedding dress. That's a huge order!"

Mr. and Mrs. Lin exchanged a glance and finally felt relieved.

Lin's mother exclaimed with emotion, "Our family is truly about to turn our lives around!"

As night fell, the Lin family's courtyard was brightly lit.

The newly recruited embroiderers and tailors have already begun working on the new clothes to be put on the shelves tomorrow. Lin Yun moved among them, sometimes pointing out the details of the embroidery, sometimes adjusting the cutting methods.

Lin Feng was busy relaying the customer's custom requirements to the tailors and embroiderers.

Lin's parents were also busy. Lin's mother was in charge of sewing, while Lin's father was in charge of sorting the fabric and ironing the finished garments.

Working until midnight, the first batch of new clothes was finally finished. Lin Yun hung up the clothes one by one, carefully inspecting them to ensure that each one was perfect.

Looking at the rack full of new clothes, Lin Feng couldn't help but exclaim, "Yun'er, these clothes are even prettier than yesterday's!"

Lin Yun smiled slightly: "It's all thanks to everyone."

That night, the lights in the Lin family's house remained on until very late.
