Chapter 47 Military Innovation

Emperor Yongzheng nodded. He always trusted his thirteenth brother to handle matters.

But the matter of firearms modification is more urgent right now. After a moment of contemplation, he suddenly asked, "Hengchen, do you think the current military and political procedures are cumbersome?"

Zhang Tingyu was extremely astute and immediately understood that the emperor was about to reform the military and political system.

He cautiously replied, "In my opinion, the current system of requiring the joint approval of the Ministry of War, the Ministry of Revenue, and the Ministry of Works before being submitted to the Emperor for review is indeed cumbersome. In particular, urgent reports from the border often delay crucial battles due to the bureaucratic delays."

"That's what I think too." Yongzheng's gaze was deep; after a moment of silence, he continued:

"Starting tomorrow, the Grand Council will establish a new 'Armaments Division' to be in charge of the research and development and allocation of firearms, and will be directly responsible to me."

All reports from the border regions will now be sent directly to the Grand Council via the 600-li express courier service, and I will review and issue them on the same day.

Zhang Tingyu clicked his tongue in disbelief. This change was tantamount to taking most of the Ministry of War's powers into the hands of the emperor.

But knowing Yongzheng's decisive nature, he immediately replied, "Your Majesty is wise. I will draft the decree immediately and issue it at the morning court tomorrow."

Zhang Tingyu waited for a while, and seeing that the emperor had no further instructions, he bowed and withdrew.

As Yongzheng recalled the blueprints from earlier, a hint of doubt appeared between his brows.

Not only was the Lin family proficient in business, but they also possessed such expertise in military weaponry, making them truly remarkable talents.

She could effortlessly design jewelry patterns, draw up blueprints for firearms, and employ unheard-of business tactics.

All of this is something that ordinary women in their boudoirs today could never achieve.

There are many great scholars in the capital who are proficient in mathematics, but very few who can transform theory into such an ingenious design.

And she, a young woman confined to her chambers, was able to achieve this.

"Could he also be a reborn person...?"

He muttered to himself, if Lin Yun, like him, had experienced a lifetime, then her insight and methods could be explained.

Yet her words and actions revealed a carefree spirit that was out of step with the times, as if she had no reverence for imperial power and wealth, and instead seemed to come from... a more distant future.

Could it be that the Lin family originated from the royal family of later generations? Otherwise, how could they have access to such top-level knowledge?

Yongzheng's eyes widened, shocked by his own idea.

Or perhaps everyone in future generations could learn this astonishing knowledge? What kind of world would that be?

It doesn't make sense, it still doesn't make sense.

He recalled Lin Yun's bright eyes, seemingly innocent yet always revealing extraordinary wisdom unintentionally—she was so mysterious.

When one person becomes curious about another, that's the beginning of their downfall.

Yongzheng's eyes darkened.

He had secretly sent people to investigate Lin Yun's background, but found nothing unusual.

But the more she acted this way, the more puzzling it seemed. She knew so much, yet kept it all hidden, as if she was certain that no one could uncover her secrets.

"Someone come here." He tapped the table with his hand.

"Your servant is here." A guard emerged from the shadows; he was the trusted confidant who had delivered the message for Lin Yun during the day.

"Has the Lin family made any unusual moves recently?"

"Reporting to Master, Miss Lin is busy with the rouge shop and drawing pictures behind closed doors; there is nothing special about her."

Yongzheng dismissed the servants and his gaze fell on the moonlight outside the window.

If she is indeed from the future, she might be able to help him reform the government; but if she harbors ill intentions in the future... he tightened his grip, and the teacup shattered.

He didn't want this to happen.
