The craftsmen sent by the Emperor arrived at Yunxiang Villa early in the morning. Upon hearing the news, Lin Yun quickly tidied her clothes and went out to greet them.
A dozen or so craftsmen dressed in Imperial Household Department uniforms stood outside the courtyard gate. The head eunuch bowed respectfully and said, "Miss Lin, His Majesty has ordered us to build a hydroponic greenhouse for you. All the materials are ready. Please give your instructions."
Lin Yun felt a warmth in her heart and quickly curtsied, saying, "This commoner thanks Your Majesty for your grace and for troubling you gentlemen." Her voice was soft yet firm, and her eyes were full of gratitude.
The eunuch smiled slightly: "Miss, there's no need for such formality. His Majesty specifically instructed that the work be completed as soon as possible." With that, he directed the craftsmen to begin construction.
Lin Yun stood aside, watching the craftsmen go to the wasteland in the backyard and skillfully measure and drive in piles.
Indeed, they are very professional.
Just then, Wang Defa hurried over, holding a letter in his hand, his face beaming with joy: "Miss, a letter has arrived from home!"
Lin Yun's eyes lit up, and she quickly took the letter, opened it, and read it carefully.
In the letter, the eldest brother's handwriting was steady and strong. He first inquired whether she was doing well in the capital, and then mentioned that his third brother, Lin Yan, had taken the county examination. Although he did not know the result, the whole family was encouraging him.
The letter also mentioned that there had been some minor mishaps in the family business, but fortunately, Mr. Xie helped in time, so no losses were incurred and the matter was quickly resolved.
After reading the letter, Lin Yun breathed a sigh of relief, her heart finally at ease.
She murmured to herself, "Thank you for your help, young master. I will definitely thank you properly another day."
She carefully folded the letter, tucked it into her sleeve, and turned to Wang Defa, saying, "Uncle Wang, I'm relieved that everything is alright at home. Any news from Manager Chen? How's the search for a shop going?"
As they were talking, Manager Chen hurriedly walked into the courtyard, his forehead still covered in a fine layer of sweat.
Seeing Lin Yun standing under the eaves, he quickly stepped forward and bowed: "Miss, there is news about the shop."
Lin Yun gestured for him to come inside for a detailed discussion.
Shopkeeper Chen wiped his sweat and said, "Shops in the bustling city are really hard to find. I've searched all over the capital."
There is only one relatively large storefront, located at a corner two blocks away from the bustling city center.
The location may not be as bustling as the city center, but it's spacious and reasonably priced. If you have time, you might want to check it out for yourself.
Lin Yun pondered for a moment, then nodded and said, "Alright, let's go take a look today."
She turned to Xiao Tao and instructed, "Go prepare a set of men's clothing. I'm going out dressed as a man."
Xiao Tao was taken aback: "Miss, you want to dress up as a man?"
Lin Yun chuckled: "There are too many people and too many eyes in the capital. It's always inconvenient for a woman to show her face in public. It's more convenient to act as a man."
Xiao Tao understood and quickly went to prepare the clothes.
A moment later, Lin Yun changed into an indigo robe, tied a plain belt around her waist, and wore black cloth boots.
She tied her long hair up high, put on a jade crown, drew her eyebrows thicker with an eyebrow pencil, and added a light mustache to her lips.
In the bronze mirror, she appeared as a handsome and refined young man.
Xiao Tao stared in disbelief: "Miss... no, young master, dressed like this, I really can't recognize you!"
Lin Yun turned around in front of the mirror and nodded in satisfaction.
She then took out a folding fan and hung a mutton-fat jade pendant at her waist, which added to her dashing and debonair appearance.
She was slender and not particularly tall, but she possessed an outstanding temperament and a graceful demeanor with her composed gait.
Already tall, now with her long hair tied up, she appears even more upright and slender.
She lowered her voice and deliberately spoke in a gruff tone, "How is it? Does it look like it?"
Xiao Tao covered her mouth and chuckled, "It's so similar! It's just that your voice needs to be a bit deeper, young master."
Lin Yun cleared her throat and tried a few more times, finally managing to imitate it about 70-80% of the way it was.
She picked up her folding fan and gently tapped Xiao Tao's head: "Let's go, come with me."
Manager Chen was already waiting outside the door. When he saw Lin Yun come out, he was first taken aback, then smiled and said, "Miss, I almost didn't recognize you in this outfit."
Lin Yun shook her folding fan, feigning nonchalance: "Manager Chen, will you call me 'Young Master Lin' today?"
Shopkeeper Chen smiled and nodded repeatedly: "Yes, Young Master Lin."
The three of them left the villa, walked through several alleys, and soon arrived at the long street where the shop was located.
Although it wasn't a bustling area, there were still quite a few pedestrians on the street, with shops lining both sides and vendors calling out their wares.
Shopkeeper Chen pointed to a storefront with a "Shop for Rent" sign and said, "That's it."
Lin Yun looked up and saw that the shop had a spacious storefront, two stories high, with a wooden structure. Although the carved doors and windows were somewhat old, the overall condition was well preserved. She nodded: "Let's go in and take a look."
The shop owner was a middle-aged man who quickly came out to greet customers.
Lin Yun lowered her voice, exchanged a few pleasantries with him, and then carefully inspected the shop.
The first floor is about 100 square meters, spacious and bright, suitable for displaying goods;
The second floor can be set up as a private room for distinguished guests to choose cosmetics or for everyday rest.
The back door leads to a small courtyard, convenient for storing goods. She was already somewhat satisfied, but she didn't show it on her face, simply saying, "This shop is a bit old, can we discuss the price again?"
Seeing her extraordinary bearing, the owner dared not be negligent and quickly said, "If you are sincere, sir, the price is negotiable."
Lin Yun negotiated with him again, and finally settled on a price 20% lower than the market price.
She took out the banknotes to pay the deposit and agreed to sign the contract three days later. As she walked out of the shop...
Shopkeeper Chen couldn't help but exclaim, "Miss... no, young master, what excellent skills you have!"
Lin Yun smiled slightly: "Although the location of this shop is a bit out of the way, it has the advantage of being quiet, which is suitable for us to do a meticulous business."
