Chapter 117 The Fog Clears, the Moon Shines Bright

The Empress Dowager's pointed words caused Kangxi to pause slightly in surprise.

What did the Empress Dowager mean?

This implies that, as the emperor and as his grandson, he was too busy with state affairs and rarely came to the Cining Palace to pay his respects, which was considered unfilial.

The concubines in the harem also rarely came to Cining Palace to bother the Empress Dowager and the Empress Mother, because the Empress Dowager and the Empress Mother felt that Cining Palace was too deserted.

Xu Lejin looked up and glanced at the Empress Dowager, the Empress Dowager, and Emperor Kangxi out of the corner of her eye.

After bowing his head and pondering for a moment, he spoke respectfully, "Your Majesty the Empress Dowager, His Majesty the Emperor is devoted to the affairs of the previous dynasty, handling countless matters daily with utmost diligence."

"This concubine is crude and foolish. If Your Majesty the Empress Dowager and Your Highness do not find her unworthy, this concubine is willing to come and keep Your Majesty company every day and talk to you to relieve your boredom."

"Very well, very well, Consort Yu, you've gone to such trouble!"

The Empress Dowager had a kind and gentle expression, and her benevolent gaze fell on Xu Lejin.

Then, the Empress Dowager said, "Consort Yu is a concubine in the harem. Her most important task is to serve the Emperor and ensure that he has children and descendants. She does not need to come to Cining Palace every day to keep me and the Empress Dowager company."

"Come every three to five days is fine."

Xu Lejin quickly and respectfully agreed.

The Empress Dowager beside the Grand Empress Dowager smiled gently, "Consort Yu has given birth to triplets, a rare and auspicious event in the royal family. Consort Yu can bring Bao Shou, Wu Xiha, and Wu Na Xi to Cining Palace later."

“Baoshou, Wuxiha, and Unaxi were given names by the Emperor after their third-day celebration. But the sixth princess, who was raised by me, is almost a year old now, yet…”

The Empress Dowager hesitated, as if she wanted to speak.

The Empress Dowager turned her head and glanced at the Empress Dowager, but did not stop her.

Upon hearing this, Xu Lejin lowered her head and dared not utter a sound.

Emperor Kangxi pondered for a moment, then laughed heartily and said, "It is my oversight that my sixth daughter has not yet been named."

"I had originally planned to wait until my sixth daughter turned one year old to choose a good name for her, but now that my mother has mentioned it, I..."

Emperor Kangxi pondered for a moment.

“Grandmother, Mother, how about naming the sixth princess ‘Burhe’? In Manchu, ‘Burhe’ means crane. Although it is not as noble as the phoenix or the swan, the crane has a noble character.”

"I hope that the sixth princess will grow up to be a noble and holy legitimate princess of the Qing Dynasty."

The Empress Dowager and the Empress Dowager exchanged a glance, their faces beaming with smiles.

The Empress Dowager smiled and said, "The name the Emperor chose for the Sixth Princess is naturally excellent. The Sixth Princess is the legitimate princess born to Empress Hesheli, and her status is noble. The name Burhe is very good."

Consort Zhao, of the Niohuru clan, entered the main hall of Cining Palace and overheard Emperor Kangxi bestowing the name Burhe upon his sixth daughter.

With a gentle expression, Consort Zhao smiled and said, "The name His Majesty chose for his sixth daughter is excellent."

"The crane spreads its wings and soars. The sixth princess is the eldest daughter of the late empress. She was born into nobility. Now that she has been given the name 'Bulhe', no one in the palace will look down on the sixth princess anymore."

"No palace servants privately gossiped that the sixth princess was not as favored by the emperor as the eighth and ninth princesses, who were born to Consort Yu."

Consort Zhao's sincere and cheerful words once again placed Xu Lejin, as well as her eighth and ninth daughters, in the spotlight.

Xu Lejin lowered her eyes, a flash of annoyance crossing them.

The Empress Dowager and the Empress Dowager glanced at Consort Zhao with displeasure.

Emperor Kangxi's face was gloomy.

After quickly considering it in her heart for a moment, Xu Lejin slowly raised her eyes, looked at Consort Zhao, and said softly, "Your Highness Consort Zhao is joking. Whether it is the sixth princess or the eighth and ninth princesses born to me, they are all of the Emperor's bloodline, precious royal princesses, and of the same noble status."

Consort Zhao smiled but said nothing more.

An hour later, Xu Lejin returned to Yikun Palace looking exhausted. She slumped into a chair and sighed inwardly. Today's events were close. If she had been careless, she would have been disliked by the Empress Dowager and the Empress Dowager. As a result, Bao Shou, Wuxiha, and Unaxi would also have been disliked by the Empress Dowager.

Fortunately, things took a dramatic turn for the better after many twists and turns.

Although the process differed somewhat from my plan, the result was good. I gained some respect in the hearts of the Empress Dowager and the Empress Dowager, and Emperor Kangxi would think more highly of me.

In the palace, a mother's status depends on her son, and a son's status depends on his mother. With the favor of the Empress Dowager and the Empress Dowager, and Emperor Kangxi's sense of guilt, her and her children's path in the palace would be much easier.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

As members of the royal family, Bao Shou, Wu Xiha, and Wu Naxi could not remain uninvolved in many matters; they needed to gain the attention and favor of their father, Emperor Kangxi.

Only in this way can things go smoothly and things will be more successful in the future.

Qianqing Palace

Kangxi sat wearily on the dragon throne, with Liang Jiugong bowing and carefully attending to him.

"Liang Jiugong, what do you think of today's events?"

Kangxi suddenly spoke up and asked Liang Jiugong a question.

Liang Jiugong's heart skipped a beat, and he immediately knelt down, a thin layer of sweat breaking out on his back. He said respectfully, "Your Majesty, this servant is foolish and dares not presume to discuss matters of the palace."

Emperor Kangxi spoke in a deep voice.

"It's alright, I'll allow you to discuss it once."

Liang Jiugong raised his head tremblingly, glancing at Kangxi sitting on the dragon throne out of the corner of his eye, before lowering his head in fear and trepidation. "Your Majesty, although Consort Yu has her own selfish motives, it is for Your Majesty's sake, and for the sake of the princes and princesses."

"Your Majesty, your offspring are gradually increasing, while Consort Yu's maternal family is weak and lacks support in court. Consort Yu's father and brother are currently still herding horses at the Mulan Hunting Grounds. Why does Consort Yu need someone to rely on among the princes and princesses?"
