Xu Lejin smiled gently, then lowered her head and remained silent.
Kangxi changed the subject and spoke softly again, "Baoshou, Wuxiha and Wunaxi are three years old now. I visited them at the Princes' Residence a few days ago. They are being taken very well by their wet nurses and palace servants."
“Especially Ushiha, although she is a girl, she has become the leader of the children in the prince’s quarters.”
Kangxi talked on and on, and Xu Lejin occasionally responded with a smile or two. Most of the time, Kangxi was talking and Xu Lejin was listening. Before long, the moon was high in the sky.
Xu Lejin yawned delicately, looking tired.
Kangxi looked up at the night outside, a hint of unease flashing across his face. He said awkwardly, "I haven't visited my beloved concubine's palace in a long time. I was so happy that I forgot the time."

Xu Lejin respectfully agreed, but her face showed hesitation.

"I will return to the Qianqing Palace and visit my beloved consort again tomorrow afternoon."
Xu Lejin blushed deeply, glanced up at Kangxi, her ears turning red as she quickly lowered her head and spoke in a soft, muffled voice.
"Your Majesty is teasing me, but I am pregnant and it is not appropriate for me to serve you. It is late at night and the dew is heavy, and I cannot bear to see Your Majesty return to Qianqing Palace alone. The night is long and I cannot sleep."
"After much thought, I have chosen a maid named Guo Jia from among the palace maids, and I plan to have her serve His Majesty in the side hall."
A hint of unease flashed across her face, and Xu Lejin timidly raised her eyes to glance at Kangxi.
"What is Your Majesty's opinion?"
