Two days later at night
When Emperor Kangxi suddenly arrived at Yikun Palace in a drunken stupor, Xu Lejin looked surprised, but quickly recovered and ordered the palace servants to prepare a hangover soup and hot water.
Holding Xu Lejin's hands, Kangxi's eyes were full of love.
Xu Lejin's heart skipped a beat, and goosebumps rose all over her body. She wondered what had happened to the Emperor this time.
Suddenly, he gave her this tender, affectionate look.
Her heart, like that of an old auntie, was pounding wildly!
Slightly drunk, Kangxi pulled Xu Lejin to sit in his lap and whispered, "My beloved consort, my beloved consort, how can my harem be so chaotic and disorderly? Consort Wen, Consort Wen..."
Xu Lejin paused for a moment, then winked at Ruhua and Nongying beside her.
A moment later, the palace maids bowed and withdrew from the main hall of Yikun Palace.
In the vast main hall, only Xu Lejin and Emperor Kangxi remained. Emperor Kangxi, his eyes still blurry with drunkenness, suddenly leaned over and kissed Xu Lejin on the lips.
Xu Lejin blushed and turned her head away, somewhat disgusted by the smell of alcohol on Kangxi's breath.
"Wenfei's fertility-enhancing medicine has been tampered with, the dosage has been doubled, so..."
"That's why Consort Wen...that's why she injured her body...that's why she injured her body, and later..."
"Well, it's unlikely that Consort Wen will ever be able to conceive again."
Xu Lejin looked surprised and opened her mouth to say something, but before she could finish speaking, Kangxi spoke again, leaving her stunned and speechless.
Emperor Kangxi said that Consort Wen's inability to conceive had inadvertently helped him.
Is it a good thing that Consort Wen cannot get pregnant?
Kangxi also said that the incense he bestowed upon Consort Lan of Yanxi Palace, specifically the pear-shaped tent, contained musk and safflower, which are believed to cause infertility, as a precaution against the Yehenara clan and Nalan Mingzhu.
...
Xu Lejin suddenly felt that her brain was not working properly.
Disheveled in the wind
Since Emperor Kangxi was wary of Consort Lan, then was Consort Hui, and the second prince born to Consort Hui, also someone he was wary of?
Consort Hui desperately hoped to rise in status through her son, but Emperor Kangxi had no intention of considering the future and having the second prince inherit the throne.
If Consort Hui knew what Emperor Kangxi was thinking, would she be so angry that she vomited blood and died of anger?
Will they die with their eyes open in disgrace?
Kangxi, slightly drunk, fell into a deep sleep, while Xu Lejin lay awake, tossing and turning all night, unable to fall asleep, her mind filled with Kangxi's drunken words.
It turns out that Consort Hui and the Second Prince were a joke from beginning to end.
Consort Hui is always jumping around and bouncing around, and she has always held the rank of Consort. At best, she will become a Consort in the future. Consort Hui's second son is even more pitiful.
From the very beginning, it lost that qualification...
The Mid-Autumn Festival, August 15th.
"Your Highness, Consort Hui is an exceptionally capable woman. I have been feeling unwell these past few days, so I entrusted the preparations for the Mid-Autumn Festival banquet to Consort Hui. She has handled everything very well and has done a very good job."
Consort Wen, whose face still looked somewhat weak, turned her head to look at Xu Lejin and spoke softly.
Xu Lejin smiled faintly, glancing at Consort Hui, who was bustling about with a smug look on her face. A hint of pity flashed in her eyes as she said softly, "Indeed. Consort Hui is an old hand in the palace, and she is steady in her work. She did a very good job organizing the Mid-Autumn Festival banquet."
"Consort Wen had a discerning eye."
Consort Wen smiled outwardly, but her heart was bleeding.
It wasn't that she had a discerning eye; it was clearly the Imperial Concubine using Consort Hui to take away her power.
"Your Highness is too kind. In the past, when I was in charge of managing the six palaces, I was overwhelmed and inevitably made mistakes and neglected some areas. Fortunately, Your Highness did not hold it against me."
Picking up the wine cup in front of her, Consort Wen smiled and said, "Your Highness is so kind and benevolent, I would like to offer you a toast."
"Please, Consort Wen."
Xu Lejin paused for a moment, then raised her glass in response.
Emperor Kangxi, seated on the dragon throne, looked down and happened to see Xu Lejin and Consort Wen raising their cups to drink.
After clearing his throat, Kangxi said in a loud voice, "Consort Gui and Consort Wen, what are you talking about? I see you two are having a very pleasant conversation."
Xu Lejin and Consort Wen both looked at Emperor Kangxi.
After a quick moment of thought, Xu Lejin spoke softly, "Your Majesty, Consort Wen and I were praising Consort Hui."
"This year's Mid-Autumn Festival banquet was organized by Consort Hui, who handled it in an orderly manner."
"oh."
Kangxi looked around and saw that everything was indeed in good order.
After a moment of contemplation, she laughed loudly, "Indeed, it's quite good. This year's Mid-Autumn Festival has more interesting songs and dances, and the food is exceptionally exquisite. Consort Hui, you've worked hard."
A loud sound rang out in the main hall.
The concubines and members of the royal family all turned their gazes toward Consort Hui.
Consort Hui paused for a moment, then slowly walked into the hall, curtsied, and said, "Your Majesty is too kind to me. It is my honor to be able to help Your Majesty, Consort Gui, and Consort Wen."
"Your Majesty, I dare not accept such a compliment."
Her expression was calm, but Consort Hui felt a sweet warmth in her heart, as if she had eaten a lot of candy, the sweetness reaching deep into her soul.
The Empress Dowager, looking frail and aged, glanced at Consort Hui, smiled faintly, and remained silent, her mind racing. Although Consort Hui was of humble birth, she had served the Emperor for many years and had a second son...
Consort Hui did a good job hosting today's Mid-Autumn Festival banquet; it would be good to give her some praise.
"Grandmother, your grandson wishes to..."
Turning his head slightly, Kangxi looked at the Empress Dowager with a questioning gaze.
The Empress Dowager understood, nodded, and said with a smile, "The Emperor can decide matters concerning the inner palace. I am old and only wish to stay in Cining Palace and enjoy my grandchildren."
