Ulanara Mingwei was born into the Ulanara clan.
Mingwei's father was the Grand Minister Feiyangu. Although he was a descendant of the King of Ula, he was not from the branch that succeeded the King. He could only be considered a distant relative of the same clan.
Mingwei's mother was from the Gioro clan, the daughter of Beizi Muerhu.
Jue Luo was Fei Yanggu's second wife. Before Jue Luo, Fei Yanggu had a first wife.
As for the surname of Feiyanggu's first wife, it is no longer known. Some say it was from the Guarjia clan, while others say it was from an unknown small Manchu family.
Fei Yanggu's first wife left Mingwei with three children: half-brothers, sons, and daughters.
After marrying Fei Yanggu as her second wife, Jue Luo gave birth to Mingwei and her full sister, Ulanara Yirou.
Besides Mingwei and her elder sister, Feiyanggu had six other illegitimate daughters, one of whom was betrothed to the Empress, who was Mingwei's future mother-in-law and a cousin of Empress Xiaoshu Xu Muer.
There was also a half-sister named Rong'er, who was betrothed to the Eighth Prince, later Prince Chun, Yinzhi, as a princess. Although she only gave birth to one daughter, because she was Mingwei's half-sister, a petition was later submitted requesting that she be made a secondary consort.
When Mingwei was born, Jue Luo suffered a difficult childbirth and injured her body. Moreover, Mingwei was not the son that Jue Luo had hoped for, so Mingwei was not loved by Jue Luo from birth.
Furthermore, Mingwei's appearance was not outstanding, and she had an older sister, Yirou, who was beautiful even at a young age. Fei Yanggu did not like her either, and so she grew up in this stumbling manner until she was seven years old.
When she was seven years old, a boy three years older than Mingwei suddenly entered her world.
The young man often visited Mingwei, bringing her all sorts of strange and unusual things. The most interesting one was when he gave her a zither, which she really liked.
However, when Mingwei thought about how she was not liked by her father Feiyanggu and her mother Jueluoshi, and how her older sister Yirou was domineering, she knew that she could not protect the zither, so she did not accept it.
Years later, Mingwei turned sixteen and it was time for her to enter the palace for the imperial concubine selection.
Mingwei was officially hired and later betrothed to the Fourth Prince as his wife. It was only then that Mingwei learned that the young man who had visited her so often over the years was the Fourth Prince, Yin Chu, from the palace.
Before this, the elder sister, Yirou, had always considered herself the future primary wife of the Fourth Prince, but...
Not only did her elder sister Yirou not become the primary consort of the Fourth Prince, but she was also betrothed to the Second Prince as his secondary consort.
Mingwei knew a little about the Second Prince, Yinti, and felt a pang of sympathy for her sister.
But later, when her older sister Yirou tried to push Mingwei into the water, Mingwei suddenly understood...
The elder sister, Yi Rou, was not betrothed to the Second Prince as his secondary consort until she was eighteen years old. This was a deliberate act by the palace, and the person who pushed things along was most likely the Fourth Prince.
Although she didn't understand why the Fourth Prince did this, Mingwei was happy inside.
Originally, Mingwei and the Fourth Prince's wedding date was to be set soon, but at this time, the then Imperial Noble Consort, later the Empress, and then Mingwei's mother-in-law, became pregnant again in her forties.
It wasn't until the Imperial Noble Consort gave birth to twins and was made Empress that Mingwei and the Fourth Prince's wedding date was set.
On their wedding day, an incident occurred. The Fourth Prince and Mingwei analyzed the pros and cons in detail, and Mingwei finally understood that her sister Yirou had always been malicious and narrow-minded.
Not long after marrying the Fourth Prince, Mingwei became pregnant.
At this time, the Fourth Prince told Mingwei that the princesses and concubines in the back courtyard were all still virgins. Although the Fourth Prince would sometimes visit the princesses and concubines' courtyards, they always slept in separate beds.
Although Mingwei subconsciously chose to believe it, she still felt it was impossible.
Later, Mingwei secretly hired a nanny to work in the Prince's mansion. The nanny told her that a woman's virginity could be determined by her sitting and walking posture.
The nanny further told Mingwei that the princesses and concubines in the back courtyard were indeed virgins.
Because the princesses and concubines were all virgins, Mingwei understood that the heavy responsibility of bearing children for the Fourth Prince rested entirely on her shoulders.
After giving birth, she cooperated with the local physician to carefully recuperate.
She soon became pregnant again.
A few years later, Mingwei gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Feeling that she had reached her physical limit, she began to persuade the Fourth Prince to take a concubine. However, the Fourth Prince suddenly smiled mysteriously and handed her a pill.
After taking that pill, Mingwei instantly felt ten years younger.
Mingwei knew that when the Fourth Prince got married, and when the Fourth Prince's older sisters got married, the Third Prince and the Eighth Princess, who had gone to the heavens to cultivate immortality, each gave the Fourth Prince a box of treasures.
Mingwei understood that the Fourth Prince must have given her an elixir of immortality.
After each childbirth, the Fourth Prince would give Mingwei a pill to nourish her body. In this way, Mingwei eventually gave birth to ten sons and four daughters, a total of ten births.
Mingwei's youngest son was born when she was forty-six years old.
In the fifty-first year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign, he abdicated, and the Fourth Prince became the new emperor, with the reign title Yonghe. Mingwei naturally became the empress and sat on the throne for twenty-three years.
In the twenty-third year of the Yonghe reign, the fourth prince, Yinchu, abdicated, and Mingwei became the Empress Dowager.
During her years as the Empress Dowager, Mingwei accompanied the Emperor Emeritus at the Yuanmingyuan Garden. The Emperor Emeritus had rather peculiar hobbies; he enjoyed role-playing, dressing up as a farmer, a merchant, and so on.
Mingwei and the concubines in the harem naturally followed each other's lead.
The retired emperor played a farmer, Mingwei played an old farmer's wife, and the concubines in the harem played the various aunts and uncles from the countryside, creating a lively and bustling scene.
