Chapter 490 Extra: Jia Ning

Aisin-Gioro Jianing was born on the 19th day of the tenth month of the 27th year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign.

Jia Ning's father was Emperor Shengzu of Qing, later hailed as one of the greatest emperors of all time; her mother was Empress Xiaoshuren, Kangxi's third empress, of the Xu Mu'er clan.

Jia Ning's mother did not come from a high social class. The Xu Muer clan was originally just a Xu family of bondservants in the Imperial Household Department, but was later promoted to a higher class and given a surname.

The Xu family eventually rose to prominence for two reasons: first, Jia Ning's mother became Emperor Kangxi's favorite concubine and eventually Empress; and second, Jia Ning's three maternal uncles, Huai Zhen, Huainian, and Huai Ming, all entered officialdom.

Jia Ning has a twin sister named You Yao.

Jia Ning was born only half a cup of tea earlier than her twin sister You Yao. In addition, Jia Ning has five older sisters, two older brothers, a younger brother, and a younger sister.

When Jia Ning was born, her mother was already an Imperial Noble Consort. With no Empress in the palace and Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang and Empress Dowager Xiaohui having passed away early, Jia Ning's mother was the most powerful woman in the harem, holding a position equivalent to a secondary Empress.

Jia Ning and her younger sister You Yao were born with a silver spoon in their mouths and were pampered from a young age.

Of course, Jia Ning and her twin sister You Yao cannot be compared with the youngest, Jia Ning's mother, who was over forty years old when she gave birth to her late-life son and daughter.

After all, after the birth of Jia Ning's twenty-second brother and thirty-fourth sister, Jia Ning's mother was the Empress.

In addition, the twenty-second brother and thirty-fourth sister were two of Emperor Kangxi's three youngest children. As for Emperor Kangxi's youngest son, the twenty-third emperor, although he was the youngest, his birth mother was ultimately only the Imperial Concubine Yi.

After Jia Ning was born, her seven, twelfth, and fourteenth sisters, who were born of the same mother, got married one after another. Her twentieth sister also got married. In addition, her fourth brother, Yin Chu, was also engaged to his wife, Ulanara.

In the thirty-seventh year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign, Jia Ning's mother, over forty years old, became pregnant again. After eight months of pregnancy, she safely gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl, the twenty-second son and the thirty-fourth daughter.

That year, Jia Ning's mother was made empress and officially entered the central palace.

When Jia Ning's mother became the Empress, Jia Ning, who was only twelve years old, and her twin sister You Yao, became highly sought-after. Various Mongol tribes sought their marriage, and the families of court officials also hoped to marry them.

After several years of careful selection, Emperor Kangxi did not allow either Jia Ning or her twin sister You Yao to marry into Mongolia. Instead, he chose a Shushu Gioro family for Jia Ning in the capital.

Shushu Jueluo clan, with yellow sashes.

There were many families of the Gioro clan during the Qing Dynasty. In addition to the imperial Aisin Gioro clan, there were also the Irgen Gioro clan, Aha Gioro clan, Shushu Gioro clan, Xilin Gioro clan, Jiamuhu Gioro clan, and others.

Among them, the imperial Aisin Gioro clan, the Irgen Gioro clan, and the Aha Gioro clan are known as the three great Gioro clans.

Jia Ning's husband came from the Shushu Gioro clan, and her twentieth sister Yu Ludai's husband came from the Xilin Gioro clan. Neither of them were among the three great Gioro clans, but they were still quite respectable. The husband's father was a minister of the Imperial Household Department.

Jia Ning had someone secretly inquire about it. The prince consort was the youngest son of the family, with two older brothers, so he was favored and pampered from a young age, and was neither good at literature nor martial arts.

If there is one good thing about the prince consort, it is that he is chaste and respectful of women, unlike most Manchu and Mongol nobles who believe that women are merely appendages of men.

In the forty-fifth year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign, Jianing was bestowed the title of Princess Gulun Jinshu. In September of the same year, I was married off to the Shushu Gioro family in a grand procession with a magnificent dowry. Jianing's princess residence and the Shushu Gioro family's mansion were separated by only a wall.

After their marriage, Jia Ning lived in the Princess's Mansion, and the Prince Consort also spent most of his time there.

I suppose all mothers in the world have a soft spot for their youngest sons!

The consort's mother was no exception. Although Jianing was a princess, when she married her consort, he was already twenty years old and had no children.

After getting married, there was no news of Jia Ning getting pregnant for three years.

The consort's mother, who was also Jia Ning's mother-in-law, dared not say anything openly, after all, Jia Ning was a princess and a daughter of the imperial family. However, she was constantly causing trouble in private, and every now and then she would find an excuse, such as having a family banquet today, feeling unwell tomorrow, or having relatives visiting the day after tomorrow, to invite the consort back to the Shushu Gioro family.

At first, Jia Ning didn't pay much attention, but after it happened several times, she became suspicious. She sent someone to inquire and learned that it was actually her mother-in-law causing trouble.

Family banquets, feeling unwell, relatives visiting—all these were actually ways of wanting the prince consort to stay overnight at the Shushu Jueluo family's place.

Even more surprisingly, the mother-in-law secretly began preparing a concubine for the son-in-law, hoping to get the concubine pregnant first, and then bring her to Jia Ning, using filial piety to force Jia Ning to drink the concubine's tea.

Jia Ning naturally could not tolerate this.

Jia Ning was naturally fiery. After thinking it over, she immediately went to the residences of the Fourth Prince, Yin Chu, the Tenth Prince, and the Eleventh Prince, and poured out her heart to her brothers, who all doted on her.

As a result, in the imperial court, the father of the imperial son-in-law was impeached by the fourth, tenth, and eleventh princes.

From abusing power for personal gain, to the fact that the emperor's father, nearing sixty, took a Han Chinese woman as a concubine, to the second wife of the Shushu Gioro family, to the jealousy and rivalry among the concubine's daughters, and the unreliable concubine's son spending nights in brothels, etc.

No matter how trivial the matter, even the petty squabbles and rumors among servants, were brought to the imperial court.

When Jia Ning heard the impeachment from the Fourth Prince, the Tenth Prince, and the Eleventh Prince, she couldn't help but laugh out loud, thinking to herself that her Fourth Brother and the others had really dug up the whole secret of the Shushu Jue Luo family!

If the water is too clear, there will be no fish. How can a family like the Shushu Jueluo family be completely clean and without any secrets?

It's nothing serious.
