Chapter 496 Extra Chapter: Kangxi's Sons, Part Three

Prince Chun of the First Rank, Yin Yu

The Eighth Prince, Yinzhi, was the eleventh son of Emperor Kangxi. His birth mother was Lady Guoluo, who had entered the palace after her second marriage. She was the half-sister of Consort Yi and rose through the ranks to become Consort Mu before being demoted to commoner status.

In the twenty-second year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign, Yinyu was born in the Yongshou Palace in the Forbidden City.

Not long after the full moon, Yin Yu was given to Consort Duan, one of the four consorts at the time, to raise. Guo Luoluo, then Noble Lady Mu, was promoted to Consort Mu because of this arrangement, becoming the head of Xianfu Palace.

There are rumors in the palace that Consort Mu obtained her rank in exchange for her son, Yin Yu.

Later, Consort Mu made a mistake and was demoted to a commoner and banished to the Cold Palace.

Yin Yu was raised in Jingyang Palace from a young age by Consort Duan. Later, his imperial genealogy was changed so that, apart from blood relations, he truly became Consort Duan's son.

Consort Duan was indifferent to worldly affairs and relied on the then-Noble Consort Yu. Later, Empress Xiaoshuren lived in the palace, so Consort Duan did not instill much ambition in her son, Yinyu.

Yin Yu was raised to be somewhat mediocre, which may also be related to his own aptitude.

In the thirty-seventh year, Yinzhi was betrothed to a woman from the Hadanara clan, the daughter of a deputy commander. Yinzhi was also granted the title of Dorobele.

Three years later, at the age of nineteen, Yinyu married his wife, Hadanara.

Hadanara was a very virtuous woman who managed Yinyu's residence very well. Although there were occasional rumors of disputes among the concubines, they were all resolved perfectly.

Since it's a marriage arrangement, the primary wife is expected to be dignified and virtuous, so one can't expect the couple to be loving and harmonious.

Yin Yu had eight sons and eight daughters. The number eight is auspicious, signifying good fortune!

Among them, the primary consort, Lady Hadanara, had three sons and three daughters. Lady Hadanara's position as the primary consort was secure, and she was naturally happy to bestow favors upon her wives and concubines in the harem.

In the 49th year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign, Yin Yu was promoted to the title of Prince Chun of the Second Rank.

Later, when Emperor Yonghe abdicated and Hongxu ascended the throne as Emperor Yilong, Yinyu was further granted the title of Prince Chun of the First Rank.

Yin Yu lived a long life, passing away peacefully at the age of ninety-three, with five generations living under one roof.

—————

Prince Yinzhi of the Yi County

In September of the 24th year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign, Yinzhi was born in a side hall of the Yikun Palace. His birth mother was Consort Le, of the Xile clan. He was the twelfth son of the Kangxi Emperor and ranked as the Ninth Prince.

After the full moon, Yinzhi was taken to be raised by the princes.

Xi Le could only visit him. Later, Xi Le was promoted to Noble Lady Xin, Consort Xin, and then Imperial Concubine Xin. When Xi Le became Consort Xin and moved to Yonghe Palace, Yinzhi was already fifteen years old.

Therefore, Yinzhi did not enjoy the company of Lady Xile.

In August of the 30th year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign, Yinzhi was granted the title of Gushan Beizi. Three years later, during the 40th year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign, he was selected for a marriage. His wife, Lady Wanyan, was from a collateral branch of the Wanyan family.

Yinzhi's wife, Lady Wanyan, was not of the highest birth, but she was a virtuous woman. It was just a pity that Yinzhi did not know how to cherish her. He gave Lady Wanyan the dignity of a primary wife, but did not give her a son.

Lady Wanyan gave birth to only three daughters in her entire life: her second daughter in the 43rd year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign, her fifth daughter in the 47th year, and her ninth daughter in the 50th year.

In the 49th year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign, the fourth prince, Yinchu, was named the crown prince, and Yinzhi was promoted to the rank of Dorobele.

Later, Emperor Kangxi abdicated, and the fourth prince ascended the throne as the Yonghe Emperor. Ten years later, Yinzhi was granted the title of Prince Yi of the First Rank. However, fate was unkind; at the age of fifty-four, Yinzhi suddenly fell ill and never recovered.

Half a year later, he died!

After his death, Yinzhi's soul remained, lingering in the Prince Yi's mansion. He watched his sons arguing fiercely over the title, and watched his primary wife, Wanyan, whom he had always disliked, desperately protecting the family business.

Only then did Yinzhi belatedly realize that he had let down the Wanyan clan.

—————

Prince Lü Yintao

Yin Tao's birth was an accident. One night, after Emperor Kangxi got drunk, he favored Wan Liuha, a palace maid who was nearly 25 years old and eager to leave the palace. After their one-night stand, Wan Liuha became pregnant.

In the twenty-fourth year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign, Lady Wanliuha gave birth to Yin Tao in the Chengqian Palace.

The birth of Yin Tao did not elevate Lady Wanliuha's status. It was not until a year and a half later that Lady Wanliuha was promoted to the rank of Noble Lady, and more than ten years later that she was promoted to the rank of Noble Lady Ding and enjoyed the privileges of a Consort.

Yin Tao was probably the son of the princes during the early to mid-Kangxi period, whose birth mother had the lowest rank at the time. However, although Yin Tao's birth mother had a low rank in the early period, she was promoted to Consort Ding and later Imperial Concubine Ding.

In the thirty-seventh year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign, Yin Tao was granted the title of Gushan Beizi.

Kangxi 40th year

Well, something interesting happened in the fortieth year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign. There were two candidates for the imperial concubine selection: Lady Zhaojia and Lady Fuca. Lady Zhaojia was a distant niece of Consort Bu, who had served in the palace in her early years, while Lady Fuca was a concubine's niece of the late Consort Yi, who had served in the palace in her early years.

Zhaojia clan and Fuca clan?

Kangxi's original intention was that Lady Fuca was older and should be betrothed to the older Yin Tao as his wife, while Lady Zhaojia should be betrothed to the thirteenth prince, Yinxiang.

However, Xu Lejin casually mentioned that Consort Que's adopted son had a higher status than Consort Ding's biological son.

The eventual outcome was that Lady Fuca, a direct descendant of the prominent Manchu clan Fuca, was betrothed to the thirteenth prince as his wife, while Lady Zhaojia was betrothed to Yin Tao as his wife.

After Yin Tao and Lady Zhaojia got married, their relationship was lukewarm.

According to insiders, the sexual relations between Yin Tao and Lady Zhaojia were more like a routine matter, and Yin Tao seemed to have little interest in women.

Yin Tao's household only had three princesses and one concubine.
