Chapter 236 Recognizing Parents and Having a Child

Bai Weize was like this, and Madam Dong was even more so.

After calming down for a long time, Madam Dong spoke to Bai Weize in the same tone she used when making friends with other ladies and praising other people's sons: "What's your name?"

Bai Weize carefully looked at the fragile woman in front of him, whom he had never seen before since birth, and said, "My parents named me Bai Weize, Madam Dong. My parents love me very much. Although they are poor, they still give me the best. Madam Dong, you don't need to feel guilty."

Unlike his adoptive mother, who was skilled in farming, Madam Dong was beautiful with smooth, calloused hands and a gentle voice. However, Bai Weize still loved his adoptive mother more. She was fierce outside for his own sake, to avoid being bullied. Although his adoptive father was lame, he was able to support the whole family and pay for his education.

Bai Weize's attitude was clear: he still had deep feelings for his adoptive parents, but only showed superficial politeness towards her.

But Madam Dong subconsciously breathed a sigh of relief, and her heart felt less heavy. The child was still growing up well outside, and he had parents who treated him well. Madam Dong felt a little lighter and smiled at Bai Weize:

"Your name is very good, and your parents have raised you very well. You should know Qin Miao. He's not as tall as you, but he's very good-looking. He's very well-behaved. If he met you, the first thing he'd probably ask is, 'How come you're so tall?'"

When Qingyin was mentioned, Madam Dong became much happier, talking on and on, while Bai Weize listened attentively the whole time.

Seeing the happiness in Madam Dong's eyes, Bai Weize felt relieved. It seemed that the young master was quite good. Although there were all sorts of rumors circulating outside, Bai Weize was not someone who simply believed rumors. He preferred to believe what he saw rather than what he heard.

Since Qin Miao has won Madam Dong's favor, it seems that the person must be quite good. That's fine, as it allows both sides to live in peace.

His adoptive parents only had him as their child due to fertility issues. He wouldn't abandon them for wealth and status, and he wasn't incompetent either; he would give those things to them himself.

Having clearly relaxed after talking with Bai Weize, Madam Dong arranged for him to stay in a fine courtyard, giving her time to care for her Miao'er.

In Qingcui Courtyard, Madam Dong looked at the courtyard where several guards stood, her eyes cold and sharp.

“I’m here to see my son, and I’d like to see who dares to stop me.”

"Madam, this is something the General ordered us to do, we dare not do it." The guard who stopped the lady had no way to explain himself, looking helplessly at the angry lady in front of him.

Most of the guards in the mansion were Qin Yi's soldiers, so they were more accustomed to calling him "General" than "Master".

Someone had a sudden inspiration and quietly slipped away one of the guards.

Madam Dong pretended not to see the guards blocking her way. At that moment, she was like a mother eagle protecting her eaglets, extending her sharp claws at any enemy who tried to harm her child.

“Ah Qing, Mingzhu is blocking them. Anyone who dares to stop them, go and tell Qin Yi. If there’s any crime, then punish me.”

As he spoke, his usually familiar, gentle voice turned completely cold and stern.

The pretty maids following behind Madam Dong blocked her way, using their delicate bodies to make way for her.

Seeing that he couldn't stop her, a hothead was about to draw his sword when an older guard smacked him on the head and whispered, "Damn it! You really dare to try and stop her? That's the lady. Look around, who would dare to actually draw their sword?"

The bewildered young man being photographed looked left and right, his eyes filled with confusion as he observed the guards who, despite their apparent lack of resolve, were actually trying to stop him.

A young maidservant noticed him and gave him a disdainful snort.

Having successfully entered the courtyard, Madam Dong walked into the familiar, exquisite courtyard. Gazing at the handsome young man sitting quietly on a stool, lost in thought, she couldn't help but feel tears welling up in her eyes.

How could a pampered young master ever be so destitute and confined to a courtyard?

"Vast!"

The familiar, gentle tone was filled with sadness and worry, causing Qingyin to turn her head in surprise:

"Mother?"

"Why."

With a familiar greeting, the woman in the light purple dress had already firmly embraced her child.

"Miao'er, let your mother hold you quietly for a while. Don't be afraid in the yard. Your mother will always be your mother. Don't be afraid, your mother will let you out."

"Mother..." Qingyin's eyes reddened, and she hugged the fragile yet strong woman in front of her.

Whether in her past life or this one, this fragile woman has never considered giving up on her child.

So after learning the truth about her husband's exploitation, she forced herself to stay strong and wanted to support her child. She never imagined her husband would be so cold-hearted.

The child, left to be exploited, was raped, abused by the emperor, and thrown like a rag onto a filthy, overgrown field.

If Madam Dong, who was trapped, knew the truth, she would probably have perished long ago.

However, it was impossible in this life. Qingyin leaned against her mother's arms, her eyes sparkling.

To the man who arrived in a hurry, this was the scene of a loving mother and filial son.

Qin Yi frowned subconsciously, feeling a little uncomfortable looking at the harmonious mother and child.

"Why didn't you tell me that Madam came to see Miao'er?"

A familiar, gentle, and deep voice broke the warm atmosphere created by the newcomer.

"Do I need to ask you anything when I come to see my son?"

Because of her son, Mrs. Dong's tone unconsciously became sharp towards her husband.

Hearing this, the man was not angry. Instead, he smiled faintly and said, "It was my fault. You may see her if you wish. I disagreed with Miao'er and Miss An this time. I thought it was just Miao'er's whim again, so I punished her. But it wasn't a big mistake. Miao'er doesn't need to be confined anymore."

Before Madam Dong could even question him, she swallowed her complaints as Qin Yi explained. Could it be that she was overthinking things, and that her husband actually had a reason?

Madam Dong is naive, but Qingyin is not so naive.

However, in Qin Yi's eyes, he was just a naive young master, so he had to pretend to be a naive young master as well, and gave Qin Yi a grateful smile: "Father, really? You really want to let me out?"

"However, Miao'er, your father has to tell you the truth." Qin Yi looked at Qingyin apologetically.

Madam Dong understood Qin Yi's meaning. Miao'er had been confined to the courtyard before and certainly didn't know his identity. Now, her husband genuinely wanted to tell him.

Madam Dong's eyes widened, and she couldn't help but look at her husband with pleading eyes, trying to persuade Qin Yi not to reveal the truth.

But Qin Yi wasn't about to let her have her way. In front of Qingyin, he told her the truth, word by word.

Qingyin pretended to be shocked and lowered his head to hide the look in his eyes. His slightly curled fingers showed his panic.

After all, in Qin Yi's eyes, he was still a naive boy who had secretly learned the truth in front of the old emperor.
