"Aunt Lianxin, is he the younger brother I want to switch places with?" The little girl stood next to her mother's trusted palace maid, looking at Qingyin with disdain.
It's as if she's not seeing someone who can save her, but rather a dirty piece of trash that she accidentally stepped on on the roadside.
Even though her family had fallen on hard times, this pampered young lady seemed to have been well protected and had not yet suffered any social setbacks.
When the young lady asked about the person she had been deliberately ignoring, Lianxin's face stiffened for a moment.
The woman tightened her grip on Qingyin's hand. If this body weren't mute, Qingyin thought she probably would have cried out in pain when the woman pulled her.
"Yes, miss, this is my son."
"Oh, so he's the mute guy. He's so dirty, I don't want to swap clothes with him." A clear look of disdain and malice flashed across the pale, delicate little girl's face.
Qingyin received it, but simply lowered her head slightly and did not respond, like a little mute who was used to being treated this way.
Indeed, that was the case. He was not loved by his mother, and his father, whom he had been thinking about before he left, had died in battle on the frontier. Who would care about the grievances of a mute boy?
Lianxin looked at the boy's reaction of not reacting at all after being hit three times, a hint of disdain flashed in her eyes, but in the blink of an eye she was fawningly coaxing the exquisitely beautiful little girl in front of her.
"Oh, my lady, Madam instructed me beforehand that you should go home first, and we can change back into our beautiful clothes later. Please bear with it for a while."
"Alright then," the little girl replied lazily.
...
The conversation between the two revealed a lot.
At least the subtle sympathy and pity that Qingyin felt from the maids around her was enough to prove the ugly truth of the matter.
Unfortunately, these maids were nothing more than servants who had suffered misfortune along with their masters. Even a fallen camel is still a camel, and they could not resist even a declining noble family. They were lowly maids who had no means of support and whose indentures were not in their own hands.
So even though these maids sympathized with Qingyin, they dared not speak up to save this poor, unlucky girl.
Seeing that the madam had been brought up, the young lady, Lianxin, finally understood and breathed a sigh of relief, then turned her attention to the child beside her.
Lianxin bent down, looking at the thin child who barely reached her thighs, and smiled with unusual tenderness. "Baby, just stay here and behave yourself. I'll change you into some pretty clothes. Just stay here and enjoy yourself. I'll come pick you up later, okay?"
Bao'er was the name given to the child by the original owner's father when the child was born. Because of the war, he had to leave his young son and hometown before he could discover the child's disability...
Qingyin raised her head and quietly looked at the mother in front of her who was deceiving her child.
In fact, even after experiencing all sorts of worlds, Qingyin would never understand the thoughts of some people who are called human but are not actually human, just as she does not understand the mother in front of her who has abandoned her son for others or for herself.
It's normal that she doesn't understand; she'll probably become this kind of "inhuman" when she does.
Their eyes, clear as a pool of water, seemed to see into people's hearts, illuminating all the filth in the world.
In those overly clear and beautiful eyes, Lianxin had the illusion that all the baseness and filth in her heart had been seen through, which made her heart tremble. She dared not look at the child she had abandoned any longer, and her movements were so clumsy and chaotic that she tried to take off the child's clothes.
Qingyin: "Look at me." A clear, gentle child's voice, like the sound of spring water, rang out, sounding strange in the empty prison cell.
The eyes of those around her suddenly went blank, while Qingyin, who had caused them to fall into their current state, spat out a mouthful of blood and casually wiped it away.
The will of this world is truly deadly. I almost had my soul trapped outside this body after using a little bit of power from outside the world.
Qingyin suppressed her resistance against the will of the world and said to the people in front of her, "Lianxin brought the child today, but she suddenly regretted it and was reluctant to switch the child. However, she was worried about Miss, so she voluntarily switched identities with a maid who wanted to leave and stayed in the prison herself."
As she spoke, Qingyin watched as one of the young maids who was most worried about her in the crowd came out, took off her outer robe and exchanged clothes with Lianxin, and then picked him up.
Qingyin casually removed the woman's hair ornaments, letting her hair fall loose. With him blocking her way, a woman appeared, crying sadly because she was worried about her former master.
The two walked to the prison gate, where the same familiar, fierce-looking but soft-hearted guard stood. When he saw Qingyin's familiar, clear eyes, he instinctively relaxed and let them leave without much hesitation.
Once outside the prison and onto the wide, bustling street, Qingyin had the puppet-like woman put him down. She walked to a corner, blocking his view, and snapped her fingers lightly. The memory of the hypnotic period, which she had been holding onto while watching the heartbroken maid, had just come to her senses and hadn't had time to react, returned to her mind.
The maid who saved Miss Lin regretted letting her son switch places with Miss Lin, but she couldn't bear to part with her mistress, so she switched identities with her! This maid couldn't help but feel that the memories in her mind were a bit outrageous, but because of Qingyin's spiritual power, it automatically deepened the rationality. No matter how crazy that maid's mind was, she really came out.
Her family was so poor that they sent her to the Lin family to work as a maid in exchange for food. Now that she's out, she has to go back and find her mother and father.
The young maid's eyes grew brighter and brighter, and in the blink of an eye, she jogged off in a familiar direction.
Qingyin squatted in the corner and coughed up another mouthful of blood. Fortunately, he no longer needed to use his spiritual energy, which would make things much simpler. Qingyin watched the maid's cheerful departing figure, a light smile appearing on his lips.
He still had to repay the debt of gratitude himself. He had settled the matter of his adoptive mother's kindness, but in fact, his adoptive mother hadn't properly thanked him yet.
A mischievous smile crept across Qingyin's lips.
However, in this world, Qingyin can no longer use the power from outside the world, but he doesn't need to anymore. Qingyin quietly thought that he should find an opportunity to first bump into that mission taker who accidentally fell into the world.
As Qingyin thought about it, a dirty little child disappeared into the crowded throng.
The next morning, "These corrupt officials from the Lin family are going to be escorted to Beining!"
"Everyone, make way! Don't obstruct the officials' business!" a soldier shouted, stopping some of the onlookers who were too eager to watch the spectacle.
His warning did indeed provoke an overly intense enthusiasm among some people.
However, this was not enough of a warning to the people of the capital who had not seen any excitement for a long time. They eagerly waited, gathering in twos and threes, surrounding the prison carts and looking at the prisoners.
