Chapter 407 Picking Pears

A gentle breeze carries the fragrance of flowers, grass, fruit, and wood, making one feel refreshed and relaxed.

Qingyin, holding her younger brother's hand, stood on a small stool in the carriage and gazed into the distance. The distant green mountains and tall fruit trees laden with golden fruit were clearly visible. Qingyin took a deep breath.

Sure enough, spending too much time indoors makes one feel happy when seeing a little nature.

Qingyin came down and looked at the butler standing behind her younger brother, asking about the fruit that had been peeking out of the wall, "What kind of fruit is that yellow fruit? Is it ripe? Can we pick it now?"

"..."

Seeing Steward Li, who had somehow fallen into a daze, Song Yuebai frowned and lightly kicked him. "Hey, my sister's watching you. What are those yellow fruits that's sprouting up in the manor? Can we pick them?"

Manager Li snapped out of his daze and saw the veiled woman before him. Before he could even make out his master's face, he hurriedly listened to the young master's voice and replied, "Reporting to the young lady and the young master, those are yellow pears grown on the estate. They are ripe and the deep yellow ones are ready to be picked."

Seeing the terrified Steward Li, Qingyin gently patted her younger brother's shoulder, "It's alright. Since we can pick them, Niannian will definitely be interested in seeing the fresh pears, right? Let's go straight there."

Song Zhenbao held her mother's hand and nodded seriously. The little girl looked at her uncle expectantly with her rosy cheeks, suppressing her excitement: "Yes, Uncle, Niannian wants to pick big pears."

"Okay, let's go then."

Song Yuebai smiled and gave Butler Li a warning look.

Manager Li was startled, and cold sweat broke out on his back. It was indeed his fault. Several masters of the estate had come, yet he had been distracted by gossip about one of them. He was practically asking for trouble.

"Alright, now lead the way."

Song Yuebai rolled her eyes at the nervous Steward Li, but she didn't really hold a grudge against him. She just felt that the steward was too naive and honest, lacked emotional intelligence, was extremely honest, and was also particularly timid.

But for a steward of a estate, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Such a person wouldn't dare to be greedy and do things against the Lord like those others.

Thinking of this, Song Yuebai's attitude towards the honest Steward Li improved slightly.

“My sister and mother want to go for a walk in that pear orchard. Hurry up and lead the way.”

"Yes, young master."

Song Yuebai's attitude softened a bit. Although Steward Li was honest, he wasn't stupid. Knowing that Song Yuebai's attitude meant that he was unlikely to be replaced because of Song Yuebai's momentary daze, he relaxed a little.

When he led the way for Qingyin and the others, Steward Li became even more attentive.

Along the way, they not only gave a brief introduction to the people in the village, but also carefully described what was planted in the village, what fruits were ripe, and how they tasted.

Observing the expressions on his masters' faces, Steward Li noticed that they were clearly more curious about the fruit trees and crops on the estate, so he spoke more at that point.

Although he spoke simply, Song's mother and Qingyin, who were used to staying at home, still listened attentively and with great interest.

The pear orchard wasn't far away. The farmers in the village carefully planted the pear trees neatly, transplanting another tree every two or three meters. After several rows, the pear trees looked particularly beautiful, and with their abundance of large, golden pears, they filled people with the joy of a bountiful harvest.

There happened to be a pear tree with pears hanging low, the branches falling less than half a meter from the ground, so that even a three-year-old could reach them.

Song Zhenbao excitedly ran to the pear tree, pointed at the big pear, and sweetly asked Manager Li, who was giving directions, "Uncle, is this big pear ripe? Can Niannian pick it?"

The fair-skinned, chubby, delicate, and adorable little girl looked expectantly at Steward Li. Steward Li only had a few sons at home, and like him, they were all dark-skinned and chubby. He had no daughters, and seeing such a beautiful little girl as his young master, his heart softened.

“Oh, my lord, these pears are so yellow, they’re ready to be picked. Your lord is so noble, let me help you pick them.”

Song Zhenbao shook her head, "Niannian wants to pick the pears herself."

However, Song Zhenbao didn't forget to ask her mother's permission. She looked at Qingyin with her big, watery eyes and asked, "Mother, can I pick them myself?"

Qingyin nodded. "Of course."

Song Zhenbao became happy and quickly picked up the big pear with her hands.

The pears in front of me were ripe, and the stems were easily removed.

Song Zhenbao happily ran to Qingyin's side with the big pear in her arms and handed it to her, saying, "Mommy, here's a pear for you."

Qingyin raised an eyebrow. "Give it to me, but what about Niannian?"

Song Zhenbao said reluctantly, "Niannian doesn't like it, give it to Mother."

If Xiao Niannian's tone hadn't sounded so reluctant, Qingyin would have reluctantly believed that her daughter didn't like pears.

Qingyin patted her daughter's head. "You little liar, your affection is practically written all over your face, yet you still lie to your mother. You can have the first pear yourself, Niannian. Mother wants the second pear that Niannian picked. Can Niannian help Mother pick it?"

Song Zhenbao blinked and smiled sweetly, "Okay."

"Niannian must not forget her little uncle."

...

“I remember that there were not only my mother, maternal grandmother, and maternal grandfather, but also my eldest uncle and youngest uncle.”

Song Zhenbao counted carefully, "That's a total of six big pears. Niannian has already picked one, so there are still five to go."

Manager Li, who had been standing nearby listening to the conversation between the masters, glanced at Song Zhenbao with envy.

"The young master is so filial. I don't know how the masters raised him. My brats never ask me about the little things they have. They wish they could stuff them into their own mouths."
