Chapter 97 Descending the Mountain

With these cakes in hand, Qingyin and Aluna once again arrived at the hidden cave on the mountain. While eating the dry, hard cakes, Qingyin dissolved the Beauty Pill and Body Strengthening Pill into the cakes. Perhaps because of the effect of the pills, the cakes tasted much better.

Unlike their previous life, Aon and Aruna did not spend their first night hungry.

At dawn, the rustling sounds of animals and insects echoed through the woods, a testament to the danger lurking within.

But Aruna and Aoto had to get up and search for food in this dangerous forest.

Aon looked at Aluna, who was a head taller than her. Although they were twins, perhaps due to gender and race, Aluna looked much stronger than Alsa, who was the same age. He had dark circles under his eyes. He had experienced a nightmare and hadn't slept well all night, waking up frequently. So he woke up early today, and Aon called out to him after being reminded by the system.

"Brother, I'll go with you."

Aruna looked at his sister's pleading yet determined eyes and hesitated. He had originally planned to go out alone to learn from his father how to make a slingshot, and hunt some birds to bring back for his sister to eat. He looked at his sister, who was covered in mud from their mountain climb: "But sister, what about your body?"

"Brother, I don't want to leave you." Qingyin forced out her tears as she looked at Aluna. In her past life, Aluna went hunting alone and was bitten by a poisonous snake. Fortunately, the venom was mild, and he only woke up after running a fever in a cave for a day. This time, she wouldn't let him get into trouble again, so she was determined to stay with her brother.

Looking into Qingyin's deep blue eyes, which were misty with tears, Aruna sighed, but still decided not to leave her alone there.

Walking through the misty forest, the most dangerous things are not only the wild and untamed large beasts, but also the venomous snakes, rats and insects that lurk in the shadows, observing every prey.

The two siblings walked cautiously and stumbled along the edge. In such a dense forest, Ajile had led them very far. Moreover, for their safety, they had to go deeper into the forest. People from the Mongolian tribe often chose to go into the mountains to hunt for food when they were scarce. Qingyin and Aluna had to go even deeper into the forest.

Along the path, Aruna made a makeshift slingshot from twigs and a piece of cloth torn from her clothes. This was a simple toy that Agil had taught his son to make to keep him from getting bored while hunting, but now it had become the only source of food for the two siblings.

After taking the Body Strengthening Pill, Aruuna's hearing became much more acute. From ten steps away, he spotted a pitifully thin pheasant foraging for food in the grass in the distance. His eyes lit up, and he quietly turned his head to signal Qingyin to be quiet. Qingyin nodded behind him.

A series of "crackling" sounds from a slingshot alerted the pheasant, which instinctively dodged the stone. In the instant that Aruna was stunned, Qingyin took the slingshot from his hand, changed the stone, and aimed in one smooth motion. The pheasant, which was trying to escape, successfully fell into the bushes where it was fleeing.

"Little sister, thank goodness you're here!" Aruna looked at Qingyin with surprise, but a moment later, a look of loss and pain flashed in her eyes.

He's so useless. He couldn't help back then, and now if it weren't for his sister, the pheasant would have run away again.

Looking at her dejected brother, Qingyin smiled and said, "Brother is great too. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't have been able to escape."

As he looked at his sister praising him, tears welled up in Aruna's eyes, but in front of her, he forced back his tears and smiled, saying, "Sister, we will get better and better."

"Uh-huh!"

With a pheasant, the two siblings had enough to eat. However, it was still early, so Aruna planned to hunt some more game or pick some familiar wild vegetables. Qingyin thought the same thing, and the two of them walked deeper into the area. Along the way, Qingyin also discovered the venomous snake that had bitten Aruna in her previous life. This time, with Qingyin's presence, the snake became the two siblings' meal.

With a bountiful harvest, the two returned to the cave. Aruna started a small fire by turning a log, and without even uttering a sound as the skin on his palms was chafed, he continued to diligently imitate his father, skewering the prey onto a stick and roasting it.

Watching the pheasant crackling on the grill, it became a little overcooked over time, turning yellow and black in patches. To be honest, the pheasant, without being plucked or gutted, wasn't exactly delicious; it tasted bland and had a strong fishy smell. Yet, the two of them ate it without any discomfort. They quickly finished the pheasant and covered the fire with soil, making sure there wasn't a single spark left.

The cave was much warmer this time because it had been warmed by a fire, and the two of them slept soundly with the clothes they had taken with them.

Six years have passed in the blink of an eye.

During these six years, Qingyin secretly gave Aluna and herself the Strength Pill. The two siblings lived quite well deep in the forest with this strength, unlike in their previous life when they were starving and emaciated.

Perhaps because they are twins, Qingyin and Aluna look exactly alike. Due to the beauty pill, their appearances are heading towards that of holy angels. Their azure eyes are as clear and mysterious as the deep blue sea, and their temperament is unique. The only difference is that Qingyin, the girl, is slightly shorter than Aluna, but she is still a tall girl of the Han ethnicity, about the same height as ordinary men. Qingyin's temperament, which has been passed down through several lifetimes, has an indescribable quality that makes people who see her captivated and obsessed with it.

But now, two angelic teenagers are groping around with what looks like an obscenely groping wild boar knuckle. Luckily, no one can see this scene; I wonder how many people will be heartbroken.

Since Aruna discovered that he and his sister were becoming increasingly monstrous, he tore off his old clothes and made several masks for himself and his sister. Dressed in clothes made of animal hides, the two lived in this forest like elves who had become one with each other. The long separation from the outside world made their already poor Chinese even more difficult to speak. However, Aruna did not plan to stay here forever. He still wanted to avenge his parents.

On this sunny day, Aruna walked up to Qingyin, paused for a moment, and said, "Sister, I'm going down the mountain. Wait until I get some good news, then I'll come back and take you away."

Qingyin nodded, her deep blue eyes beneath her thick, curled eyelashes gazing tenderly at her brother. She didn't intend to ruin Aluna's life; their status in this life was too low. Aluna needed a benefactor to take them out, otherwise, with those eyes alone, Aluna wouldn't be able to fulfill his wish. Qingyin smiled and said, just like in her previous life, "Okay, brother, I'll wait for you."
