Chapter 113 Greetings

The carriage stopped outside the palace, and the two walked towards the Qianqing Palace.

Yinzhen got off the carriage, then led Tong Cheng'er down from the carriage, and from then on, they never let go of each other's hands.

At first it was fine, since there weren't many people around, but after taking a few steps, she saw the guards at the palace gate and struggled to say, "Let go first."

Yinzhen remained expressionless outside, but said aloud, "I won't loosen it."

"It has a negative impact."

Yinzhen didn't care about the consequences; he just wouldn't let go.

Tong Cheng'er had no choice but to go along with him. If he was so shameless, she didn't need to be embarrassed either.

So the two of them held hands, ignoring the shocked looks of the guards, and walked all the way to the Qianqing Palace.

After they left, the guards at the palace gate inevitably became distracted, and one of them couldn't help but ask, "Were those two the Fourth Prince and his wife?"

Another guard nodded: "It is indeed the Fourth Prince and his wife."

Another guard couldn't help but sigh, "I never expected that the Fourth Prince, who looks so aloof, would be such a loving husband. Look at how warm he is to his wife; none of the other princes are like that."

"That's absolutely right!"

...

And so, Tong Cheng'er was led by the hand by Yinzhen until they entered the Qianqing Palace before he let go of her.

She was about to meet Emperor Kangxi, and although it wasn't her first time, Tong Cheng'er couldn't help but feel a little nervous.

Yinzhen probably noticed her nervousness and squeezed her hand again.

"I'm here, so don't be afraid. Besides, Father Emperor is very easy to talk to."

Tong Cheng'er took a deep breath and followed him inside.

After the two entered, they first bowed and paid their respects to Emperor Kangxi.

Looking at his son, whose eyes were filled with satisfaction, Kangxi smiled and felt very pleased. It seemed that his son had a good night's sleep, otherwise he wouldn't have such an expression.

Emperor Kangxi smiled and said, "Get up quickly."

"Thank you, Your Majesty."

Kangxi said to Tong Cheng'er, "Now that you've married the Fourth Prince, you'll call him 'Father Emperor' from now on!"

Tong Cheng'er replied, "Yes, Father Emperor."

Kangxi laughed even more heartily.

Although he had married several daughters-in-law, none of them made Kangxi as happy as Tong Cheng'er.

It's different. Emperor Kangxi was happier than when his crown prince married his crown princess.

His son is now a real man.

If it weren't for the fact that he couldn't tell anyone, he would have loved to celebrate with the whole world.

Overjoyed, Emperor Kangxi waved his hand and bestowed extremely generous rewards.

Tong Cheng'er couldn't help but be surprised when she heard about the rewards. She had seen plenty of good things, but it was rare to see Kangxi being so generous.

After leaving the Qianqing Palace, Tong Cheng'er whispered to Yinzhen, "Father, aren't you afraid of emptying the imperial treasury with all these rewards?"

It wasn't that she looked down on Kangxi's private treasury; it was just that the contents were terrifying to hear about.

Porcelain, famous paintings, fine antique inkstones, rare and precious silk fabrics, and even many rare medicinal herbs...

Many of these things were things that Tong Cheng'er had only heard of but never seen, yet Kangxi bestowed upon her without batting an eye.

Although Yinzhen was surprised by the abundance of the reward his father had given him, he roughly understood the reason. He figured that not every brother would receive such a reward when he married a wife, so it wouldn't be to the point of emptying the private treasury.

He laughed and said, "Don't worry, Father Emperor has plenty of good stuff in his private treasury. This is nothing."

Tong Cheng'er nodded: "As long as we can't move all the goods."

Yinzhen asked again, "What's wrong? Father Emperor has given you so many rewards, aren't you happy?"

As far as he knew, his young wife seemed to be a bit of a money-grubber!

Tong Cheng'er nodded with a smile: "Of course I'm happy."

However, it was just too much, and she was somewhat flattered.

Yinzhen smiled and said, "As long as you're happy."

His father, the Emperor, is still somewhat useful.

If Emperor Kangxi knew what he was thinking, he would smash the cup and then yell: "Unfilial and rebellious son! So, he, an emperor, is just here to please his wife?"

The two were going to Consort Wuya's Yonghe Palace next. Although she was confined to Yonghe Palace and not allowed to go out, she was still his mother after all. No matter what, now that he had married a princess, they still had to pay their respects.

Inside Yonghe Palace, Consort Wuya got up very early this morning, waiting for her daughter-in-law to "show her respect"! She thought that since she couldn't touch her son, she could surely touch her daughter-in-law!

She had a good plan, but after waiting and waiting, the person didn't show up, which made her very angry.

She waited and waited, but nothing came. She became anxious and sent someone to inquire about the situation. She then heard that Yinzhen had sent someone to the Qianqing Palace to say that he would be a little late entering the palace today.

After hearing about this, she was so angry that she tore off a handkerchief.

She couldn't eat breakfast and sat there sulking, waiting. She waited and waited until it was almost lunchtime when the nanny came and said, "Your Highness, the Fourth Prince and his wife have arrived."

Consort Wuya said coldly, "I thought they weren't coming today! I told them I was taking a nap and asked them to wait a little longer."

The nanny wanted to say that there was no need to do this, and that if His Majesty found out, she would definitely be scolded again, but seeing her master becoming increasingly extreme, she dared not speak.

We can only do as instructed.

When the nanny arrived at the door, she said to Yinzhen and Tong Cheng'er, "Greetings, Fourth Prince and Fourth Princess Consort. Her Majesty is taking a nap. She hasn't been sleeping well lately, and it's rare for her to fall asleep. We servants didn't have the heart to disturb her."

The subtext is that you should wait at the door.

Upon hearing what the nanny said, Yinzhen's face immediately darkened.

His "good" mother often did this during the period when she was targeting him, but she was punished by her father and dared not do it again.
