Tong Cheng'er is truly happy now.
The feeling was like suddenly winning five million in the lottery, just about to celebrate, only to be told by the other party that there was a mistake, and she had won fifty million in the lottery.
An unexpected surprise, and that feeling was pretty great.
When Yinzhen saw his young wife, who knew the truth, smile again, he smiled too.
After the initial joy, Tong Cheng'er suddenly thought of the women in the backyard. It wasn't that she was being overly compassionate, but rather that she was afraid they would cause trouble. Judging from the current situation, each of them seemed to have their own ideas and were all good candidates for causing trouble.
So Tong Cheng'er asked Yinzhen, "What are your plans for settling those people in the backyard?"
Yinzhen's thinking was simple: "The mansion has enough to eat, wear and use. As long as they behave themselves, they won't be mistreated."
Upon hearing this, Tong Cheng'er suddenly felt that leaving Yinzhen like this was also a solution. Her only worry was that this might cause some problems. Not everyone is like her, who thinks that having good food, drink, storybooks, and a cat is enough.
However, Tong Cheng'er did not object. At least for now, she didn't have to worry about them. She would wait and see if there was any opportunity to properly settle them in the future.
She was, after all, his woman in name only; her mere presence was an eyesore.
She couldn't bring herself to kill them, but if she had the chance to send them away and give them a decent place to go, that would be good too.
Yinzhen said he was hungry, so he ate dinner very early. After dinner, Yinzhen said he was sleepy, so Tong Cheng'er washed up and went to bed early with him.
Once in bed, Yinzhen suddenly became alert.
The two of them slept peacefully for the night, but tonight Yinzhen transformed into a "wolf" and took Tong Cheng'er's advances several times.
Tong Cheng'er was in a daze until the end, and she didn't even realize that he was holding her while he took a bath.
Looking at his exhausted wife who had fainted, Yinzhen felt both heartache and satisfaction. He held her tightly and then fell asleep as well.
That night, Yinzhen had another dream. In the dream, he saw the familiar yet unfamiliar Emperor Yongzheng. When he entered the dream, Emperor Yongzheng had just passed away. Then he watched as Yongzheng's fourth son, Hongli, succeeded to the throne and changed the country's name to Qianlong.
After that, Yinzhen finally witnessed what absurdity truly meant. In the first half of his life, Qianlong at least understood the responsibilities of an emperor, though he was somewhat lustful. However, as the emperor, he was still passable.
Yinzhen frowned as he watched Qianlong's later life unfold. He supported corrupt officials and, even in his old age, kept bringing women into the palace. Not only that, he was also very keen on traveling in Jiangnan, sleeping along the way.
What Yinzhen also disapproved of was his love for writing poetry, but his skill level was quite mediocre, and his enthusiasm for stamping names and paintings on them, which was simply a waste of good things.
Furthermore, his "nouveau riche" aesthetic was practically challenging Yinzhen's values.
The more I look at it, the angrier I get.
After finishing reading about Qianlong's life, Yinzhen discovered that the dream was still going on. He continued reading and saw that each emperor of the Qing Dynasty was worse than the last, and in the end, the regime was controlled by a woman from the Yehenara clan.
Then he saw the Opium War break down China's doors, the Qing Dynasty ceding territory and paying reparations, and then the Eight-Nation Alliance invaded China.
The Yuanmingyuan was burned down. It was the Yuanmingyuan that he designed himself, and it contained countless treasures. What was looted was looted, and what couldn't be taken was either burned or smashed. The Yuanmingyuan was destroyed in an instant.
Then, the Qing dynasty collapsed, Yuan Shikai came to power, and later, various factions fought each other, giving rise to different regimes and political parties.
Yinzhen watched the century-long history of humiliation like an outsider. Seeing the ugly faces of those invaders, he wished he could fight them with his life. They were so hateful, but he could only sit and watch as a bystander.
He was powerless to do anything.
Then he witnessed the founding of the People's Republic of China, followed by ten years of turmoil, and then the resurgence of youthful vitality across China, with various judicial, economic, cultural, and educational policies...
One policy after another left Yinzhen bewildered and confused.
Yinzhen saw that ordinary people could afford to study and become literate. Even in the face of natural disasters or man-made calamities, there was mutual support from all sides. They even abolished agricultural taxes, which was something that ancient emperors would never have dared to dream of.
As it turned out, the leaders of that era in the dream did it, or rather, they should be called a leadership group; they did it.
...
Time and Space Administration, 1314 Time and Space Administrator's Muttering: "I have no choice. In order to give you fighting spirit, I can only let you see the world hundreds of years in the future. In order not to repeat the tragedy of the future, rise up, Fourth Prince, please stop being a lazy bum."
At the same time, he silently thought to himself: In order to give you a buffer period, I deliberately avoided the first three days of your marriage. As a single dog, I really made things difficult for myself.
Yinzhen woke up, groggily looking at the sky outside; it was still dark! But Yinzhen couldn't fall back asleep.
The events in his dream were so real that he felt they represented the future of the Qing Dynasty. Born into an imperial family, he couldn't find peace.
Although this land later took on a new look after a series of hardships, the process was truly tragic.
The peace and prosperity of the nation, bought with blood and flesh, cannot be ignored by him; he cannot ignore the bloodshed that came before him.
He lay there until the sky began to lighten, then he heard a noise beside him. Tong Cheng'er, half-asleep, snuggled into his arms. Because half of his body was outside the blanket and a little cold, Tong Cheng'er opened her eyes and said, "You're awake. What time is it?"
Yinzhen said, "Go back to sleep, it's still early."
Tong Cheng'er was still half asleep when she heard this, so she lay down and continued sleeping.
Distracted by his wife, Yinzhen gave up on the idea, lay down in bed, and closed his eyes. He couldn't sleep anyway, so he decided to rest.
