Finally, the Ninth Prince emerged from the Qianqing Palace in a daze, still somewhat disoriented.
When the Tenth Prince Yinzhen heard that his Ninth Brother had been summoned by his father, the Emperor, he was afraid that his father would beat him, so he rushed over as soon as he heard the news.
They happened to run into Yinzhen, who seemed to be in a daze.
Yinzhen looked at Yintang with concern: "Ninth Brother, did Father Emperor hit you?"
Yin Tang shook his head: "Father Emperor didn't hit me."
Yin breathed a sigh of relief: "As long as I wasn't beaten."
In his view, as long as he wasn't punished, it wasn't a big deal.
Yinzhen finally came to his senses.
"Didn't you say that Mother Niohuru was unwell and you needed to take care of her? Why did you come here?"
Yinzhen spoke frankly: "I'm not afraid that you'll get a beating from Father Emperor. I'm tougher than you, and I thought I could take a few blows for you when you get beaten."
Yin Tang: Although I know he meant well, I can't hope for anything good from him.
Yinzhen: "By the way, what did Father Emperor say? Did he agree to let you go into business?"
Yin Tang nodded: "Father Emperor agrees."
It's a bit different from what he expected, and he can't explain it to this silly goose. He'll talk to him about it later.
Yinzhen had already made up his mind. Since he had his father's permission, he could do other things while doing the pencil business.
He still wanted to "trick" people like the Third Prince.
It would be best to earn some of Third Brother's money, so as to save him from being a nag and annoying person.
Yinzhi only heard him say that his father had agreed, so he nodded happily: "That's wonderful. Since you're alright, I'll head back now."
Yinzhen stopped him: "Wait a minute, how is Mother Niohuru?"
When Consort Niohuru was mentioned, Yinzhen's mood became somewhat somber: "Mother is still the same as before. The imperial physician said that she can only be kept at home."
Yinzhen sighed inwardly, "I'll go with you to see Mother Niohuru."
Yin nodded: "Alright."
...
Then Yinzhen learned of Kangxi's decision. Yinzhen had no objection to entrusting the pencil matter to Yintang, and he had nothing to say about Yintang's business acumen.
In the dream, Yinzhen relied on his ability to turn stone into gold to serve as a money bag for the Eighth Prince. Otherwise, with his reputation for virtue, the Eighth Prince would not have been able to win over most of the court to speak on his behalf.
Yinzhen always felt that the Eighth Prince in his dream had the capital to seize the throne, half of which was given to him by Yintang.
Therefore, Yinzhen thought it was perfectly acceptable to entrust the pencil matter to Yintang.
...
"Madam, the Ninth Prince has come to request an audience."
Ninth Prince?
Tong Cheng'er remembered that Yinzhen had once said that the matter of the pencil would be handled by the Ninth Prince from now on.
She put down the storybook in her hand and said, "Please invite Ninth Prince in."
"Yes, Madam."
Then she added, "Go to the Qiqiao Academy and bring the five masters over."
"Yes, Madam."
The five craftsmen from the Qiqiao Academy came over first. Last time, when they improved the pencils, Tong Cheng'er was generous and gave them a sum of money, so they were all eager to be instructed by her.
"This servant greets Your Highness."
"You're too kind, gentlemen."
"Xie Fujin".
Tong Cheng'er had tea served to them before saying, "I called you all here today because I have something to discuss. The Ninth Prince will be coming over later. These pencils will be turned into a business, and the Ninth Prince will be in charge of managing it. All five of you can make pencils, so I've decided to have two of you follow the Ninth Prince for a while. Who would like to join me?"
The five looked at each other in bewilderment. They had heard of the Ninth Prince, and as far as they knew, he was not very old. Could they possibly have a future by following him?
For a moment, they didn't know what to do.
Tong Cheng'er took a sip of tea and asked, "What, no one's willing?"
No one spoke.
“The Ninth Prince is generous. You won’t lose out by following him. Besides, you’ll only be with him for a short time. He’ll come back later.”
She originally chose these five people based on their character, but she was really lucky. All five of them were quite quick-witted. If she really had to give them to the Ninth Prince, she would be reluctant to do so!
In the end, two people spoke up; they were the two youngest.
Tong Cheng'er glanced at the two of them, kept them there, and sent the rest of them back.
Not long after, the Ninth Prince entered.
After exchanging greetings, the Ninth Prince spoke up, "Fourth Brother asked me to come and see Fourth Sister-in-law. Fourth Sister-in-law, what do you think of this?"
Tong Cheng'er nodded with a smile: "Your fourth brother told me that I've already prepared the people for you."
After saying that, she introduced the two people standing next to her to Yinzhen.
After the introduction, Tong Cheng'er instructed Ru Lan to fetch a stack of files from the study and handed them to Yin Tang: "This is about the materials needed for pencils. I've sent someone to inquire about the origins and prices of these materials. Your fourth brother said that although you are talented, this is your first time doing business. I'm giving you these so you can avoid some detours."
Yin Tang was not an ungrateful person. Although he was somewhat surprised that his fourth brother could consider so much for him, he had no reason not to accept it since it was a kind gesture.
"Thank you for your trouble, Fourth Brother and Fourth Sister-in-law."
Tong Cheng'er smiled slightly: "It's all what I should do."
After saying all that, Tong Cheng'er couldn't help but add a few more words.
Did your fourth brother tell you what the significance of this pencil was?
Yin Tang shook his head: "The Ministry of Revenue has been quite busy lately, so Fourth Brother probably hasn't had a chance to tell you yet."
Tong Cheng'er: "If you don't mind, I'll tell you some things."
Yin Tang: "Please speak frankly, Fourth Sister-in-law."
He did have two pencils, given to him by his father, the Emperor. However, when he gave them to him, he didn't say how to use them, only that he should come and find his fourth brother.
Fourth Brother sent him to find Fourth Sister-in-law again.
