Chapter 146: Much Benefit

Tong Cheng'er: "I learned from your fourth brother that the registered population of the Qing Dynasty is more than 70 million. This does not include people who have not registered their household registration due to special reasons. In other words, the Qing Dynasty has a population of about 80 million."

Upon hearing this, Yinzhen didn't understand what this had to do with the pencil business.

Seeing his confusion, Tong Cheng'er continued, "Ninth Brother has lived in the palace for a long time and is not familiar with the composition of the people nowadays. Since ancient times, people have believed that having many children brings many blessings, so ordinary families have as many children as they can. Ordinary people generally do not take concubines. Even so, a couple can have three to four children, some as many as seven or eight, and some even more."

"Based on this family structure, there will be at least 20 to 30 million children among these 80 million people who need early education. If only one in three of these children's families is willing to provide them with early education, that would be a demand for nearly 10 million pencils. Ninth Brother is good at math and should understand the benefits involved."

Yinzhen's eyes brightened.

Fourth Sister-in-law is right.

Tong Cheng'er hadn't finished speaking: "If something is valuable, then it will be cherished when used. If it is easy to buy, then it will not be cherished as much. Pencils are inexpensive and are easy to buy for most people, so they may not cherish them as much. Therefore, the wear and tear and the replacement of these items can generate profit, which is naturally a new source of income."

Yinzhen's eyes lit up even more as he looked at Tong Cheng'er. Fourth Sister-in-law is amazing.

Tong Cheng'er continued, "Ninth Brother should have been to the shop to buy things. The same items in the shop can have vastly different prices due to different workmanship and materials. Although this pencil is made of wood, it can be made of iron, gold or silver, or even jade."

"Then we can hire a skilled craftsman to carve it on. Wealthy families who dote on their children will naturally not be stingy with spending money on it. Moreover, since Ninth Brother is in the Imperial Study, if even the princes there like the design, then the common people will naturally like it too..."

After hearing these words, Yin Tang felt as if he had been enlightened.

He was now bursting with energy and couldn't wait to go out and make a big splash.

Yinzhen looked at Tong Cheng'er with bright eyes and said solemnly, "Fourth Sister-in-law, what you said makes a lot of sense. Thank you for your advice."

Tong Cheng'er shook her head: "Your fourth brother said you are intelligent, especially talented in gold and silver. When I heard him say that, I thought he was going to take you into the Ministry of Revenue, since he has been very busy lately and needs someone to help him. I didn't expect it was to put someone in charge of the pencil matter. Even if I don't say this today, you will understand when you enter the business world. It is not worthy of being called a mentor."

Yinzhen was taken aback by what he heard. He was surprised that his fourth brother would tell his sister-in-law that he was intelligent. You see, he didn't like studying. Even if he had to study, he still didn't like it because his heart wasn't in it. So he couldn't study as well as his older brothers, and he was even worse than some of his younger brothers.

My fourth brother fainted a few years ago. When he woke up, he still had a cold face, but it wasn't the kind of cold face that people disliked. In fact, people got along with him quite well.

Even so, he knew that his fourth brother was very serious about his studies. Although his attitude towards him had improved a lot, he still often told him to correct his attitude. He let it go in one ear and out the other. His fourth brother often sighed, and he had never been praised by his fourth brother.

Yin Tang was secretly pleased.

Suppressing his secret delight, Yinzhen said, "Fourth Sister-in-law is too modest."

After seeing Yin Tang off, Tong Cheng'er continued her great work of petting her cat and reading storybooks.

As for Yinzhen, he originally planned to go directly back to the palace to write a plan, but thinking about what his fourth sister-in-law had said earlier, he went to the Ministry of Revenue before returning to the palace.

Besides the issue of lending money, the Ministry of Revenue also had other problems. After the regulations for lending money were finalized, Yinzhen gave the Ministry of Revenue two days to relax, but now it is naturally going to be busy again.

"Your Highness, the Ninth Prince has arrived and says he wishes to see you."

Yin Tang?

What is he here for?

"But tell me what you want to see me about?"

Su Peisheng shook his head: "The Ninth Prince didn't say, but this servant saw that the Ninth Prince looked quite happy, so it shouldn't be anything bad."

Yinzhen put down his pen, nodded, and said, "Let him in."

What it's about, you'll find out when you meet them.

Yinzhen walked in with a smile, looking at the busy officials of the Ministry of Revenue. Although they were busy, they looked energetic and their eyes were bright, showing that the officials of the Ministry of Revenue were very motivated!

He once visited the Ministry of Rites where his third brother worked. The officials there, while not exactly listless, didn't seem particularly motivated.

Yinzhen couldn't help but marvel at how capable his fourth brother was! More capable than his third brother.

Upon entering Yinzhen's room, Yintang cheerfully said, "Fourth Brother, you're busy."

Of course I'm busy!

"Why did you decide to come here?"

What's the wind blowing today?

Yin Tang: "Fourth Brother, what you're saying makes it sound like I'm heartless. I just came from your residence, and your wife said a lot to me. I benefited greatly from it. She said that you mentioned me and said many good things about me, so I came to thank you."

Yinzhen: "Is that all?"

He thought he had come here specifically for something important!

Yinzhen's eyes widened: "Fourth Brother, what do you mean?"

Yinzhen shook his head: "Alright, I have received your thanks. Didn't you say that your fourth sister-in-law said you benefited a lot? In that case, you might as well go back and write a feasible plan instead."

Upon hearing this, Yinzhen thought that his fourth brother's praise of his intelligence must have been a lie told to him by his fourth sister-in-law. Judging from his fourth brother's appearance, he really didn't seem like the type to praise people.

Shaking his head, Yinzhen said a few more words and then left.
