Chapter 157 Shopping

Let's go check out the market!

Yinzhen nodded: "Alright."

Yinzhen instructed Su Peisheng to prepare a carriage, and the two of them rode in the carriage to the nearby market.

Mongolia is a vast and sparsely populated country, and the nearest market was not exactly close to their camp. By the time the carriage finally arrived at the market, it was almost noon.

"My lord, my lady, we have arrived."

Yinzhen helped Tong Cheng'er out of the carriage.

Tong Cheng'er was quite surprised by the scene in front of her. It was indeed a market, but it was very small. Compared to the hustle and bustle of the markets in the capital, this market seemed particularly deserted.

Moreover, there aren't many shops; it's mostly herders dressed in Mongolian clothing setting up stalls here, selling only a few things.

"Why is it so deserted?"

Yinzhen was not surprised by the market's quietness. He explained, "The Mongols are nomadic and have almost no channels for the circulation of goods, so naturally there are not many things to sell."

Mainland businessmen felt there was no profit to be made, so naturally they were unwilling to come.

Tong Cheng'er walked up to a stall selling ceramic bowls and asked, "How much is this bowl?"

The stall owner looked at the well-dressed group and couldn't help but admire them before shyly saying, "A large bowl costs twenty coins, and a small bowl costs ten coins."

Tong Cheng'er asked, but didn't buy.

After passing the stall, Tong Cheng'er said, "These ceramic bowls only cost two to five coins each in the capital."

Yinzhen nodded and said, "There are fewer goods coming in from the mainland, and Mongolia lacks these things, so the prices are naturally higher."

The two continued strolling and stopped at a stall selling beef jerky.

"How much is this beef jerky?"

The stall owner said, "Beef jerky is twenty coins a pound. How much do you want?"

Tong Cheng'er looked at the beef jerky and found it quite appetizing: "Ten pounds, please!"

The stall owner smiled and nodded: "I'll weigh it for you."

Ten catties of beef jerky cost only two hundred coins, which is really cheap.

After buying it, Tong Cheng'er picked up a piece of beef jerky and tasted it. After taking a bite, Tong Cheng'er's eyes widened in surprise: "It looks delicious, and it tastes even better. You should try some too."
