Chapter 289 The First Prince is Frustrated

As soon as Yinzhen came out of the study in Yuqing Palace, Kangxi in Qianqing Palace found out. He not only knew Yinzhen's whereabouts, but also their conversation in the study.

When Emperor Kangxi learned of this, he couldn't help but sigh, "Yinzhen is a thoughtful person. If he can continue to be like this with the Crown Prince, I can really feel much more at ease."

Upon hearing this, Liang Jiugong scoffed inwardly. The Crown Prince's temperament and that of the Prince of Yong were simply not compatible; it was impossible for them to remain like this forever.

However, he still smiled and said, "His Highness the Crown Prince and Prince Yong are both very dedicated and thoughtful, so naturally they are the most reassuring."

Kangxi smiled, said nothing more, and continued dealing with the memorials in his hands.

Not long after Yinzhen left, the Crown Prince tidied his clothes and took the documents that Yinzhen had brought to the Qianqing Palace.

"Your Majesty, the Crown Prince requests an audience."

Kangxi said in a deep voice, "Let him in!"

After the Crown Prince entered, he curtsied and said, "Reporting to Father Emperor, there is progress in the investigation of the assassin that His Majesty ordered."

After saying that, he handed over the case file.

Kangxi took the file, casually flipped through it and made notes. He already knew everything on it, so there was nothing interesting to see. His flipping through and making notes was just a formality.

After reading it, Kangxi's expression showed no sign of calm or anger, while the Crown Prince, waiting to the side, appeared quite uneasy.

The troubles left behind by Songgotu should theoretically have nothing to do with him, but if we really want to connect them, it's not impossible.

"I understand. Thank you for your help, Fourth Prince. Now you may return."

His tone was very calm, and the Crown Prince couldn't discern anything from it. In the end, he left the Imperial Study with a belly full of thoughts.

After the Crown Prince left, Kangxi stared at the files on the table for a while, then summoned Liang Jiugong and ordered him to call Yinzhen over.

It was about half an hour later when Yinzhen arrived.

"Your subject greets Your Majesty."

"Get up. You and the Crown Prince have worked hard on the assassination attempt."

"It's all what I should do."

The matters concerning the Ministry of Justice were indeed his responsibility.

"The assassination attempt involved Suo'etu. Since he is already dead, I will let this matter rest out of consideration for the Empress. The people in prison will be dealt with according to the law!"

Yinzhen nodded: "Your subject understands."

This matter can be handled with utmost care.

"The assassination attempt at the New Year's banquet was carried out by anti-Qing and pro-Ming elements, and should be punished by death according to the law."

Kangxi nodded: "Handle it as you said."

Yinzhen was not surprised by Kangxi's decision to completely remove the crown prince from the list, although he could not agree with it.

But now he has no right to say "no," he just needs to listen.

When Yinzhen came out of the Qianqing Palace, it was already evening. Yinzhen rushed to the Ministry of Justice to settle the matter of the assassination attempt, and then returned to his residence.

The next day was the grand court assembly. Although Yinzhen had found out the truth and Kangxi had issued an order, before it was announced, some people began to get restless.

The eldest prince's servant spoke up: "Your Majesty, this servant has something to report."

"explain"

"The assassination attempt at the New Year's banquet is a matter of national importance. I know that Prince Yong is investigating, but after so long there is still no progress. I think we should let someone else investigate."

Emperor Kangxi frowned upon hearing this, thinking that all sorts of strange and supernatural beings had come out.

"This matter has been investigated and I now know who is behind it. I am grateful that you still have the dignity of the nation in mind." Kangxi said this with a rather sarcastic tone.

The person who had spoken earlier was taken aback by what he heard, feeling somewhat surprised.

Then someone else asked, "May I ask who is so audacious as to act so recklessly?"

Emperor Kangxi: "Those who oppose the Qing and seek to restore the Ming are not going to amount to anything. I'm sorry to trouble you all."

Having said that, Kangxi did not want to talk about it anymore.

"Alright, is there anything else?"

Speak your business if you have something to say, otherwise the court is adjourned.

He's so long-winded, what kind of behavior is that?

After a long silence, the court became lively again.

After the court session, Kangxi couldn't help but rub his head. Every grand court assembly was like this, so noisy that his head was buzzing, and he didn't know when it would end.

When Kangxi spoke of the noise, he meant it. Don't be fooled by the fact that these court officials, who appeared respectable in public, would actually fight tooth and nail over a single matter during court assemblies. While it might not have been as dramatic as a shrew's shouting match, their demeanor was just as fierce.

After the grand court assembly ended, Kangxi once again sighed to himself: "It's a good thing that this grand court assembly doesn't happen every day. If it happened every day, it would really kill people."

After court, the eldest prince felt that something was not right. Assassination was no small matter, and the fact that it was only discovered to be planned by anti-Qing and pro-Ming forces seemed far too simplistic.

The eldest prince, unusually perceptive, immediately ordered an investigation.

This matter is really hard to investigate; it's easy to find out if you do.

Within two days, the eldest prince learned the whole story, but what good did it do? Kangxi had already made his decision, which meant that he had tacitly approved of it.

If he speaks out, people might accuse him of framing the crown prince.

After investigating for so long, the final result was infuriating, leaving the eldest prince very frustrated.

I felt so frustrated that I wanted to vent.

In ancient times, men could release their pent-up emotions by drinking alcohol or by taking pleasure in the company of women.

When drunk, he is prone to doing foolish things, so he can only vent his frustrations on women.

So the eldest prince stayed in the room of his concubine, the princess, for several days in a row.

The key issue is that he doesn't sleep at night and calls for water several times a night.

The First Princess Consort had been keeping a close eye on the news from the inner quarters. Upon learning the truth, she couldn't help but wipe away her tears and privately lamented to her nanny, "Nanny, why am I so unlucky!"
