Shumulu said with a smile, "What are you saying? Your mother has been busy for half her life, and she can't even have a few days of leisure and a few days of comfortable life."
Shumulu's care for Tong Cheng'er mainly involved talking to her and petting the cat when she was free. Although she was idle, she wasn't bored.
Tong Cheng'er quickly smiled and apologized, "It was my fault for saying the wrong thing, Mother, please don't blame me."
The mother and daughter chatted and laughed, showing a very good relationship.
At that moment, Ru Xue arrived.
“Fujin, the Third and Fifth Fujin have arrived.”
Tong Cheng'er: "Let them in quickly."
Ru Xue: "Yes."
Ru Xue went out to greet them, and inside the house, Shu Mulu said, "You get along quite well with your sister-in-law."
Tong Cheng'er said proudly, "Everyone loves the daughter you gave birth to. It's all thanks to my mother for giving birth to me so well."
Upon hearing this, Shumulu smiled and couldn't help but give her a reproachful look.
It was at this moment that the Third Prince's wife and the Fifth Prince's wife entered.
Before the Third Princess Consort even came up, her cheerful voice rang out: "Fourth Sister-in-law and Princess Consort Tong have such a good relationship; I could hear their laughter from the doorway."
Fifth Princess Consort chimed in, "Indeed. Indeed, Fourth Sister-in-law, you must tell me what is it that makes you so happy?"
Tong Cheng'er said with a smile, "I was just happy to hear that you two were coming, but you two won't let it go."
As they spoke, the two walked in.
Shumulu rose to pay her respects, but was quickly refused by the Third and Fifth Prince's wives with smiles.
After they were all seated, Tong Cheng'er asked, "What brings you two here today?"
Third Princess Consort: "This is from the spring breeze. I was thinking of you, so I rushed over to see you. I guess you're due to give birth soon!"
Tong Cheng'er smiled and nodded: "She's about to give birth, in the next few days."
After saying a few words around Tong Cheng'er's belly, the Third Princess Consort said, "Since the entire Tong Princess Consort is here today, there are four of us. Why don't we play mahjong together?"
Upon hearing this, Fifth Princess Consort chimed in, "Yes, there are enough people today, let's play a few rounds?"
Tong Cheng'er looked at Shumulu.
Shumulu also played mahjong, but it was just for fun, so it didn't matter much since he just sat there and played.
Shumulu: "That works too."
Tong Cheng'er then instructed Ru Xue, "Go and fetch the mahjong tiles."
Ru Xue: "Yes, Madam."
Ru Xue moved swiftly and quickly retrieved the mahjong tiles.
As soon as the table was set up, the four of them sat around it and began to eat.
Mahjong, well, there's a reason why it became so popular in later generations. As you play and chat, the coins on the table are passed around among the players, and time flies by.
Sure enough, when Yinzhen returned to Yaocheng Courtyard after leaving his official business early, he heard a voice from inside the room shouting, "A pure suit, I won!"
Yinzhen recognized the voice immediately; it was his young consort. Her tone was cheerful, indicating that she was having a good time while he was away.
The guard at the door greeted him, saying, "Greetings, Master."
Yinzhen: "Hmm," and then went straight inside.
Once inside, she saw a mahjong game in full swing. She went in without even noticing him.
As soon as Ru Xue looked up, she saw Yinzhen. The teacher reminded Tong Cheng'er, "Madam, the master has arrived."
Upon hearing this, Tong Cheng'er suddenly looked up towards the entrance and saw Yinzhen walking in that direction.
Tong Cheng'er wasn't taking the mahjong game seriously, and the others followed her gaze and noticed Yinzhen.
The Third Princess Consort first asked the maid beside her, "What time is it?"
The maid answered.
The Third Prince's wife found this strange and muttered under her breath, "Is it possible to be on official business at this time?"
Because the sound was soft, no one could hear it clearly.
Yinzhen had encountered this kind of scene before, and no one got up to perform those customary rituals. Tong Cheng'er simply said, "You're back," when Yinzhen came over.
Yinzhen nodded: "Mm."
Tong Cheng'er just asked about the time, and he came back even earlier than yesterday. This person is really something. He used to skip work, leave early, and be late when he got to know the Ministry of Personnel. He's not that familiar with the Ministry of Justice yet, and he's started doing it again.
However, since there were other people around, she didn't say anything and continued playing mahjong.
Yinzhen had a chair brought over and sat down next to Tong Cheng'er, watching her.
For some reason, Tong Cheng'er, who had been winning all the time, didn't win a single hand after Yinzhen came back.
Although I don't lack that little bit of money, I always feel like his arrival is like a hindrance to my luck.
After having to hand over money to three different families multiple times, Tong Cheng'er couldn't take it anymore and whispered to Yinzhen, "Why don't you go to the study and take care of your own business first?"
Yinzhen glanced at her, seemingly having seen through her thoughts: "There's nothing to deal with."
Tong Cheng'er smiled rather guiltily.
I didn't win again this time.
Then I played again, but still didn't win.
The Third Princess Consort, who was standing nearby, couldn't help but laugh and said, "Fourth Sister-in-law was playing quite well before, but she can't play well anymore as soon as Fourth Brother comes back. Could it be that Fourth Brother is distracting you?"
These words were so joking that Tong Cheng'er couldn't help but blush.
"Third sister-in-law, you really know how to joke."
Yinzhen said, "It's my fault, it's my fault."
He said it, but his body didn't move an inch.
He didn't move, and Tong Cheng'er didn't win again until the end of the mahjong game.
This infuriated Tong Cheng'er; she was furious inside.
Tong Cheng'er originally wanted to invite the Third and Fifth Princesses to stay for dinner, but both of them said they were worried about their children at home and went back.
Once everyone had left, Tong Cheng'er's smile vanished immediately.
Yinzhen asked knowingly, "What's wrong?"
Tong Cheng'er glared at him: "You still have the nerve to ask? I lost terribly today."
