Chapter 293 The baby was born.

Su Peisheng's words did have some effect; Yinzhen went from standing there blankly to sitting there in a daze.

Maids and nannies came and went at the entrance of the delivery room, carrying out basins of bloody fluid. Yinzhen listened to the noisy footsteps and felt as if he were floating on a cloud, with no place to stand.

Immediately afterwards, Yinzhen heard a shrill scream coming from the delivery room. It was a voice he knew all too well, yet it made him break out in a cold sweat.

Su Peisheng, who was serving nearby, considered himself a man of great experience, but this was the first time he had ever seen his master so nervous and frightened.

When Tong Cheng'er cried out, Yinzhen felt his heart sink.

As time passed, Yinzhen's face grew paler and paler.

Those shouts made Yinzhen's heart tremble. He regretted it a little. He should have known better than to have the child. The imperial family had no shortage of children. He could have adopted another one later and raised it carefully.

The more Yinzhen thought about it, the more he regretted it.

All he could think about was Tong Cheng'er—her smile, the way she spoke, her mischievousness…

Then he thought of her difficult childbirth. He didn't want to think about it, but he couldn't help it. His mind was full of Tong Cheng'er, and he was afraid that he would hear a voice saying "The Princess Consort is having a difficult childbirth".

He felt he had never been so terrified.

After an unknown amount of time, the sound of a baby crying came from the delivery room.

Upon hearing this, Su Peisheng almost burst into tears. It had been so difficult; his wife had finally given birth.

Yinzhen was still immersed in his own world. Su Peisheng originally wanted to see his master's smiling face, but when he turned his head, he saw that his master was still in a daze.

"My lord, the princess consort has given birth."

Upon hearing this, Yinzhen snapped out of his daze: "She's given birth?"

His tone carried a hint of disbelief, as if he had survived a disaster, leaving Su Peisheng speechless.

The wife took good care of herself during pregnancy, so it's not surprising that she gave birth.

Su Peisheng: "Yes, the baby has been born. This servant heard the baby crying."

Yinzhen then came to his senses and listened carefully before he heard the child crying.

At this moment, a nanny came out of the room with a smile and announced the good news: "Your Highness, the Princess Consort has given birth to a baby prince, and both mother and child are safe and sound."

Only after hearing the old woman's words did Yinzhen finally feel relieved and show a rare smile: "Good, good, good, reward them handsomely. Su Peisheng, tell the accountant to double the monthly allowance for everyone in the mansion this month."

Su Peisheng smiled and said, "Yes, this servant will send someone to tell the accountant."

The old woman smiled and said, "This servant thanks you, Master."

The baby was born, and although it was early spring, there was still a slight breeze outside, so the baby wasn't taken out.

After letting out a sigh of relief, Yinzhen said, "I'll go in and take a look."

Just as she was about to go inside, she bumped into Shumulu, who was coming out of the delivery room. She was taken aback when she heard this. A man entering the delivery room?

"The delivery room smelled strongly of blood."

Yinzhen knew that he didn't mind; the woman lying inside was in this state because she had borne him children, so how could he possibly dislike her?

"I know, thank you for your trouble, Mother-in-law. I wouldn't feel at ease if I didn't see it for myself."

Thinking of her son-in-law's character, Madam Shumulu finally relented: "Cheng'er has already gone to bed. She's a little tired, and the maids are tidying up the room!"

Yinzhen nodded and then went inside.

After he went inside, Shumulu went to do other things. The child was born, but things were not over yet. The wet nurse for the child had to be arranged. Although several had been selected in advance, it was still necessary to see whose milk the grandson preferred. There were also many other matters concerning the postpartum period that Shumulu had to worry about.

As soon as Yinzhen entered the delivery room, he smelled a strong stench of blood. Everyone in the delivery room stared wide-eyed at him, looking incredulous.

It's as if a man entering the delivery room is some heinous crime.

Yinzhen asked, "How is the Fujin (wife)?"

Ru Xue snapped out of her daze: "The Princess Consort has already gone to sleep. Would Your Highness like to see the young prince?"

Yinzhen shook his head: "Let's look at the Fujin first."

Yinzhen walked to the bed, where the bedding had been newly changed. He glanced at it and could still see traces of sweat on the young princess's face.

He remembered that she disliked the smell of sweat, and in the summer she wouldn't let him near her if he came back from outside without showering.

If he sweats too much during sex, she will usually tell him to wash himself off quickly.

The young princess, who disliked sweating, probably sweated more than she had ever done in her life today. Yinzhen couldn't help but feel a pang of heartache and decided that she would not have any more children.

As Yinzhen watched, his eyes suddenly stung for some reason, and tears welled up in his eyes without him even realizing it.

As the saying goes, a man doesn't easily shed tears. He was a man of strong character and rarely cried. Even though he wasn't in pain, he felt as if his heart was being torn apart.

He wiped away his tears, leaned closer, and gently kissed Tong Cheng'er's forehead, then whispered, "Thank you for your hard work, Cheng'er."

After saying that, she tucked the blanket around him, but he didn't seem to know what to do. Apart from tucking the blanket around him, it seemed like she didn't need him at all.

After staring for an unknown amount of time, Yinzhen finally came to his senses, as if he had remembered that he had a son. He said, "Bring the little prince over here."

The young lady had gone through so much to give birth to him, yet he couldn't treat her well and turned a blind eye; after all, he was her son, bound by blood.

There were already people in the delivery room, but they hadn't dared to make a sound until they heard this, and then a nanny said, "Yes."

The young prince, wrapped in a brocade quilt, was brought to Yinzhen by the nanny. Yinzhen glanced at him and saw that the child was rosy-cheeked with wrinkled skin, so he couldn't make out his features.

He had seen what newborn babies looked like before, so he wasn't surprised.

The old nanny standing nearby naturally said something nice: "The young prince's appearance is a combination of the best features of his master and his wife. He is truly a rare and handsome man."
