The Construction Department rejected all three of their proposals, which made them somewhat unhappy, as they felt that the Fourth Prince was being too picky.
The solutions they then offered became increasingly perfunctory.
Yinzhen frowned as he looked at the plans, thinking to himself that the Construction Department was becoming increasingly lax in its work. It seemed that it needed to be rectified to produce something like this.
The Construction Bureau had their plans rejected one after another, and finally couldn't take it anymore, so they went directly to Emperor Kangxi to complain.
Looking at the proposals submitted by the Construction Bureau, Emperor Kangxi found that several of them were acceptable.
However, he ultimately favored his son more. Since he had executed him, there must be some explanation, and he knew that Yinzhen was not a reckless person.
So Kangxi summoned Yinzhen to his side.
"Father, did you call for your son?"
"As for the Construction Bureau, you rejected their repair suggestions. What were your thoughts?"
Yinzhen was displeased. The Construction Department was becoming more and more useless. They were complaining about such a trivial matter. They were spineless.
"Your Majesty, although the initial plans provided by the Construction Bureau were not to my liking, they were still acceptable. However, the later plans became increasingly perfunctory, which I could not tolerate. So I decided to draw up the geomantic map myself and then let them make the repairs directly."
"However, because they were too perfunctory in their work, I gave them a chance to hone their skills, so that they would not always lack patience in their work."
Upon hearing this, Emperor Kangxi understood.
Since the Construction Department was the one who was perfunctory in its work, then it's no wonder his son was blamed.
However: "Did you draw the geomantic map yourself?"
Yinzhen nodded: "Your subject thinks that this mansion is where I will live for the rest of my life, and I can't just make do with it. In addition, I have many ideas of my own, so I plan to do it myself."
Emperor Kangxi became interested and asked him, "How is the painting coming along?"
Yinzhen: "It's almost finished. I plan to send it to the Construction Bureau in a couple of days so they can start construction."
When Kangxi heard this, he was surprised that he acted so quickly.
"Hearing you say that, I'd like to see what your geomantic map looks like."
"Your subject will immediately send someone to fetch it from the prince's residence."
Then Yinzhen instructed Su Peisheng to quickly go to his study and retrieve the geomantic map he had recently drawn.
While waiting for the geomantic map, Emperor Kangxi and his son Yinzhen chatted about the recent tasks Yinzhen had been handling. Kangxi listened to his son's novel yet insightful views and was very satisfied with his son's talent.
As Kangxi was feeling quite pleased with himself, he suddenly remembered that Yinzhen had a certain quirk, so he couldn't help but ask a few more questions: "Haven't you been to the back courtyard lately?"
Yinzhen looked embarrassed: "Your subject did not go."
Kangxi sighed: "I have people keeping an eye on this matter. Rest assured, your father will not let you continue like this."
Yinzhen said stiffly, "Your subject thanks Your Majesty."
He really didn't want to bring up the issue again.
Just then, Su Peisheng brought over the geomantic map, and Yinzhen breathed a sigh of relief. Although he had accepted his flaws in this area, the constant mention of it, especially by his father, was still quite a bittersweet feeling.
He will reward Su Peisheng handsomely when he gets back; his arrival was perfectly timed.
Yinzhen took the geomantic map from Su Peisheng and handed it to Liang Jiugong, who then presented it to Kangxi on his desk.
As an emperor, Kangxi had seen many good things and had a first-class aesthetic sense. He could see the exquisite and ingenious features of this geomantic map at a glance and found it more and more impressive the more he looked at it.
Although the style wasn't his favorite, given his aesthetic sense, there was really nothing to criticize. He couldn't help but sigh inwardly, "Truly worthy of being his son; this aesthetic sense is clearly his offspring."
Kangxi looked at it for a while before saying, "The painting is good, but isn't the engineering a bit too detailed?"
It's meticulous, but it's also expensive.
Emperor Kangxi remembered that he gave each of his princes a settlement allowance of just over 200,000 taels of silver. He estimated that building such a mansion would require a considerable amount of silver.
Kangxi couldn't help but ask himself if the money he had given to Anjia was enough.
Yinzhen: "A place to live for a lifetime should be exquisite and comfortable. Besides, I have the property left by my mother. My daily expenses are limited, and too much money is useless in my hands. It is perfect to use it to build a mansion."
Upon hearing this, Kangxi understood his plan: he intended to add his own money to the project to build his residence.
Kangxi was somewhat uncomfortable with these words. His son was coming of age and wanted to build his own residence outside the palace. As the emperor, he felt that his son needed to contribute some of the money to build the residence himself, which made him seem somewhat incompetent as the emperor.
Emperor Kangxi pondered whether he could take some more silver from his private treasury to provide as a settlement allowance for his son.
After some recollection, Kangxi realized that he could afford to give his three sons a little extra money to settle down, but he couldn't afford to subsidize so many of his sons who were about to come of age!
So Kangxi said nothing.
After Yinzhen left, Kangxi looked at the private treasury and couldn't help but sigh in his heart. He was such a good emperor that he couldn't even give his son a bigger subsidy.
Liang Jiugong noticed that Kangxi seemed somewhat depressed and confused.
How could the Fourth Prince act like this so soon after leaving His Majesty? Judging from his expression just now, it seems he didn't offend His Majesty.
"Your Majesty, the people from the Construction Bureau request an audience."
Emperor Kangxi was feeling frustrated when he heard that the Construction Bureau had arrived, so he blamed the Construction Bureau for the incident.
So Kangxi summoned the people from the Construction Bureau, and before they could even complain, he launched into a verbal attack on them.
