Chapter Seventy-Seven: Delivering the Storybook

Tong Cheng'er's face flashed with surprise, then she smiled and asked, "Mother, who is this young lady?"

Shumulu smiled and introduced, "This Miss Yu is Shaoyi's cousin, she is two years older than you."

Tong Cheng'er understood and politely greeted Yu Sirou, "Hello, Sister Yu."

Yu Sirou stood up and politely greeted, "Hello, Sister Tong."

Shumulu said with a smile, "Everyone, please sit down and talk."

They both sat down.

Yu Sirou said a few words and then took her leave. As for Tong Cheng'er, she was naturally kept behind by Shumulu.

Shumulu glanced at her and slowly asked, "How has Bai Bai been these past two days?"

Tong Cheng'er: "Bai Bai is all better now."

Shumulu couldn't help but start talking again: "You really treat Bai Bai like your own daughter. You take better care of her when she's pregnant than you take care of yourself."

What Shumulu wanted to say was that she took care of Bai Bai with more enthusiasm than she had taken care of Fucha when she was pregnant. Her daughter was so lazy, and the last time she was diligent was for a cat.

Shumulu couldn't help but feel jealous.

Tong Cheng'er couldn't see through her mother's little scheme: "Mother, it's perfect that you became Guo Luo's mother ahead of time."

Shumulu thought to herself, "Is she crazy to adopt a cat as her granddaughter? My daughter really has some ideas."

"He's talking nonsense again."

Tong Cheng'er laughed and said, "It wasn't Mother who spoke first, nor did I start it, so why is it being blamed on me? Mother is really being unreasonable!"

Tong Cheng'er spoke as if she were pouting, and Shumulu couldn't help but laugh: "Alright, Mother is being unreasonable."

Tong Cheng'er: "That's exactly right."

Shumulu said indulgently, "Yes, yes, you're right."

After a while, Tong Cheng'er suddenly remembered and asked, "Mother, when did that Miss Yu arrive? How come I didn't know?"

Shumulu: "If you don't ask about it yourself, why would I specifically tell you?"

It wasn't that Shumulu said that the reason she was so amiable to Sirou was because of Liu Shaoyi; otherwise, she really would have thought that anyone could just walk through the gates of the Tong residence.

Furthermore, even out of respect for Liu Shaoyi, Shumulu didn't take Yu Sirou too seriously, so there was no need for her to specifically mention it to her daughter.

It's not that Tong Cheng'er didn't care, but she's been busy with Bai Bai's affairs lately. There's no way the people around her would talk about this when she's worried about Bai Bai, so it's understandable that they don't know.

Tong Cheng'er was a little puzzled: "How come she's Brother Liu's cousin in the capital and staying at their residence?"

She didn't say the last sentence.

Shumulu explained, "She was saying that her father forced her to become a concubine, but she refused, so she came to the capital alone to seek refuge with her cousin."

Tong Cheng'er wasn't stupid. She immediately thought of a question: how did she come to the capital alone? If it was because her father forced her, he certainly wouldn't have given her a travel permit. Without a travel permit, one cannot enter or leave the city.

Furthermore, it's a bit far-fetched to say that she's traveling alone. After arriving in the capital, although Tong Cheng'er stayed at home and didn't go out much, she knew that the world was particularly harsh on women. A beautiful woman traveling alone without any protection would find it very difficult to walk safely.

There are problems everywhere.

Tong Cheng'er thought this to herself, but didn't say anything, only saying, "This Miss Yu is quite bold."

Shumulu nodded.

Then the two stopped talking about Si Rou.

It had been some time since Tong Cheng'er returned from Shumulu's place, and the mother and daughter had been talking for quite a while today.

On the way back, quite by chance, I ran into Yu Sirou.

Tong Cheng'er greeted her, and then casually asked, "Where are you going, Sister Yu?"

Yu Sirou said softly, "I'm going to talk to my cousin."

Tong Cheng'er nodded: "I see. Then I won't bother Sister Yu any longer."

After the two parted ways, Yu Sirou watched Tong Cheng'er leave and then said to the maid who had served her since childhood, "You know, Tong Cheng'er is such a lucky person!"

The moment she saw Tong Cheng'er, she couldn't help but feel envious. She envied Shumulu's friendly smile, her open and carefree nature, and her noble birth, which meant she didn't have to be controlled by others.

Upon hearing this, the maid immediately understood her mistress's worries and quickly said, "Miss, you're overthinking it. Now that you've decided to leave Jiangnan, with your looks and character, you'll naturally find a suitable husband, and your life will naturally get better and better."

Yu Sirou didn't say anything more, but she disagreed in her heart. How could appearance compare to family background?

Moreover, she understood her situation. Given her background, finding a suitable and compatible husband was extremely rare, and she was unlikely to find one with her luck.

Yu Sirou went to Liu Shaoyi's place but didn't see him. She asked the people in the courtyard, "Where did my cousin go?"

"Where did the young master go to see the princess?"

Yu Sirou was stunned when she heard this. Where did she go to Tong Meimei?

After regaining her senses, Yu Sirou smiled slightly and said, "Oh, I see. Since my cousin isn't here, I'll head back now."

Yu Sirou arrived happily, but left somewhat dejected.

Tong Cheng'er encountered Liu Shaoyi in front of her courtyard gate. She looked at him in surprise and asked, "Brother Liu, what brings you here?"

Liu Shaoyi explained with a smile, "I went to the bookstore a couple of days ago and knew you like reading storybooks, so I bought a few and brought them to you."

Tong Cheng'er nodded: "Thank you for your kindness, Brother Liu. By the way, I ran into Sister Yu on the way here. She must have something to do. Should you hurry back and check on her so you don't miss it?"
