Chapter Thirty-Six: Suspected of Being "Incompetent"

Lady Li actually wanted to enter the Crown Prince's harem. Although the Crown Prince's ending was quite tragic in history, his current status in Kangxi's heart and his prestige among civil and military officials were unmatched by any other prince.

Given how much Emperor Kangxi doted on his crown prince, no one would suspect that the prince's position was unstable.

For Lady Li, the Crown Prince was the future emperor. If she entered the Crown Prince's harem and gave birth to a son, she might become the future Empress Dowager.

Unfortunately, the Crown Prince did not have a mother to choose women for him. His women were all chosen directly by Emperor Kangxi. Li's family background was humble, and Emperor Kangxi looked down on her, so naturally he would not give her to the Crown Prince.

Consort De needed a beautiful and ambitious girl from a humble background who came from the Han Banner Army, and that's how Lady Li caught her eye.

Having no way to enter the Crown Prince's harem, Li thought that since she had caught the eye of Consort De, it wouldn't be bad to enter the Fourth Prince's harem. A prince was at least much better than the men her family had chosen for her.

She felt that with her beauty and the fact that she didn't have a fourth prince consort yet, she was sure she could make the fourth prince treat her differently. After all, she had put in a lot of effort to learn how to serve people.

As a result, after being in the Fourth Prince's backyard for so long, she hadn't even seen the Fourth Prince's face, which made Lady Li very anxious.

"Princess, this servant cannot find out any news from the front courtyard."

Upon hearing this, Li was so angry that she didn't eat dinner that night.

Ever since the incident with Song Yuerong, Su Peisheng has kept a very tight watch on the front yard. As soon as Li's people tried to find out what was going on, Su Peisheng found out.

He dared not hide it from his master and immediately told him: "Master, Consort Li in the back courtyard is trying to find out about you."

Yinzhen frowned as he thought of Li Shi. He was truly afraid. He wondered if he was cursed. There were so many well-bred young ladies in the world who knew proper etiquette, so why were the ones sent to his backyard all good on the outside, but each one more despicable than the last?

"Tell the people in the backyard to behave themselves. As for Li Shi, make sure she is well taken care of in terms of food, clothing, and daily necessities. I don't want to go into the backyard for the time being."

Su Peisheng was confused, but as a servant, all he had to do was obey and not say anything: "Yes, sir."

Yinzhen had only three women in his harem. Li Shi was the only one he had never met, but she received the best treatment. As for Wu Shi and Song Yuerong, Yinzhen only looked after them. If he wasn't afraid of being ridiculed, he would have drugged them long ago.

Of course, improving Li's living conditions and treatment was not because Yinzhen was treating her differently, but because he wanted her to be more obedient and not cause trouble. Otherwise, if it was proven that even Li had cheated on him, and three women in a row had done the same, he was afraid he would lose his temper and get rid of all three of them.

To put it bluntly, it's somewhat self-deceptive.

But you can't blame him. Any man would find it unbearable in this situation. One thrust is enough. If it happened several times in a row, anyone would be traumatized.

This is also why Yinzhen was afraid to see Lady Li. Regardless of whether she was good or bad, as long as he didn't touch her, he would pretend not to know anything. In any case, he, the Fourth Prince, could afford to support a woman who did nothing.

Few people paid attention to the affairs of Yinzhen's harem. Only Consort De would keep an eye on Yinzhen's harem, not for Yinzhen's own good, but simply to control his harem to prevent anything from happening that would catch her off guard.

"Your Majesty, the people from the Fourth Prince's residence said that the Fourth Prince only went to the place where Consort Wu was, and no one else was moved."

Consort De exclaimed in disbelief, "This shouldn't be happening!"

She had specially chosen Wu and Li.

Lady Wu had a scholarly air about her and was said to have read many books. Men enjoy the refined pleasure of having a beautiful woman by their side, and this was someone Consort De had specially chosen for Yinzhen, someone with whom he could have intellectual exchanges.

Lady Li was charming and lovely. At first glance, Consort De could tell that she was a woman who was open-minded. She was the person that Yinzhen had chosen for his intimate encounters in bed.

As a result, Yinzhen only went to Wu's place once and never went again, which puzzled Consort De.

"Has Yinzhen met Lady Li?"

"I think I've never seen it before."

Consort De was somewhat confused by Yinzhen's actions.

I've never seen this before; it shouldn't be like this!

"Go and check it out, see what's going on."

Yinzhen showed no interest in Song Yuerong, whom she had sent over. She initially thought it was because he looked down on palace maids, but Wu and Li were both young ladies from wealthy families, more than qualified to be his concubines. Yet he didn't touch them, which inevitably piqued Consort De's curiosity.

After thinking for a moment, she called out to the old woman again: "Find a royal physician to examine him."

Yinzhen's condition made Consort De suspect that there might be something wrong with his health. Otherwise, why would he show no tenderness towards the several beautiful women in the inner courtyard, leaving them to gather dust? It was truly incomprehensible.

Upon hearing Consort De's instructions, the nanny immediately understood Consort De's thoughts. She thought to herself, "The Fourth Prince's health shouldn't be a problem, right? But considering the Fourth Prince's condition, perhaps not!"

"Yes, Your Majesty."

Yinzhen was unaware that Consort De suspected him of being "impotent." If he had known, he would have been truly miserable.

It's not that he's "incapable," it's that those women make him "incapable."

This is what it truly means to have unspeakable suffering.

On the surface, things seemed quite peaceful in the palace.

Yinzhen had that unspeakable incident, but he didn't have any other difficulties.

Tong Yunyao was soon carried into Yuqing Palace by the Imperial Household Department in a small, delicate carriage, and no one paid much attention to her.

As for Shuyuan, she was still reflecting on her mistakes in the quiet courtyard when Qing'e came to visit.

Fei Yanggu didn't have a good impression of this person. Putting everything else aside, Xiuyue's remarks alone were enough for Fei Yanggu to define Dui Qing'e as an unambitious and dishonest person.
