Chapter Twenty-Three: Falling into the Water

Tong Cheng'er thought that Tong Yunyao had finally become obedient.

Shu Wan, who was standing to the side, also felt relieved. Anyone who could get along with her good sister probably wasn't a good person. Tong Yunyao had been wronged, and she felt much better.

Seeing the two of them looking uncomfortable being supported by the old woman, he felt extremely pleased, and then he found Tong Cheng'er, this little sister, even more pleasing to the eye.

Shuwan said with a worried expression, "Please hurry up, you two old ladies. My sister and Princess Yunyao are injured, and we can't delay."

Tong Cheng'er immediately understood what this person meant and quickly instructed, "Listen to Sister Shuwan, hurry up."

Both of them twisted their ankles and were being supported. The old woman moved quickly, so her appearance was inevitably a bit strange.

They told her to slow down, but the old woman wouldn't listen to them and kept her speed unchanged.

This made both of them look rather dark.

Tong Cheng'er and Shu Wan felt a sense of satisfaction upon seeing this.

The wooden walkway over the water was winding and quite long. When they were halfway there, an accident happened. For some reason, Tong Yunyao's maid suddenly slipped and bumped into the old woman who was supporting Tong Yunyao. The old woman, due to inertia, fell forward. In front of her was another old woman who was supporting Shuyuan...

After all this, the scene started to get chaotic.

Tong Cheng'er was walking along when she suddenly felt a chill down her spine. As if possessed, she took a step to the side, and then she heard several splashes of water.

Tong Cheng'er was dumbfounded. What was going on? Did that person just try to push her into the water?

At this moment, Shu Wan secretly withdrew her hand, pretending that nothing had happened. Sure enough, she knew that Shu Yuan's invitation to Tong Cheng'er was not for anything good. Judging from what she saw, Shu Yuan and Tong Yunyao did not seem like people who had twisted their ankles.

It's truly shameful to design something for someone else's banquet.

So that little stab I took in the chaos just now was a "thank you gift" to her dear older sister. She'll have even bigger "gifts" to give her in the future! I hope her dear older sister can handle it, otherwise it'll be so pointless.

Although Tong Cheng'er understood that the person who fell into the water had ill intentions, this was the lake in her mansion, and it would be terrible if someone died.

Tong Cheng'er immediately shouted, "Quick, go down and save them!"

The two burly old women were both up there and knew how to swim. Hearing this, they jumped into the water eagerly, knowing that if anything happened to the people down there, they would be in deep trouble.

After some effort, everyone underwater was rescued. Shuyuan herself was a good swimmer, which made the rescue easier for the old woman.

The commotion here was quite significant. Tong Cheng'er wasn't stupid; she knew this matter wouldn't be easy to resolve. Before the people here had even come out of the water, she had already sent someone to the main courtyard to report the news and to bring a doctor over as well.

The incident of falling into the water is very suspicious, as is the person who tried to push her earlier. So, the claim that Shuyuan and Tong Yunyao twisted their ankles is basically false. Someone needs to take responsibility for this, and it should be the innocent party who bears the responsibility.

As for their falling into the water earlier, that's not her business. After all, they brought it on themselves!

Just as they rescued the person and brought them to a guest house, Shumulu, along with Jueluo and Hesheli, arrived.

Shumulu also heard the whole story. Since this happened in her residence, she walked in a hurry.

"Cheng'er, tell me, what exactly happened?"

"Sister Shuyuan and Sister Yunyao sent someone to say that they had twisted their ankles, so I came over with people and even asked someone to fetch a doctor. But I was walking fine, and then suddenly everything went into chaos. I was walking ahead, and I didn't know what was happening behind me, so I sent someone to fetch my mother."

Shumulu said helplessly, "You silly girl."

Shumulu said to Jueluo and Hesheli with a guilty look, "My two wives, I am really sorry that this happened in my residence."

Hesheli had a lukewarm impression of Yun Yao, her granddaughter who was born out of wedlock but raised by the legitimate wife, and casually said, "It doesn't matter, the weather isn't that cold."

Jue Luo felt a pang of sadness; she was a woman who doted on her daughter.

"Shuyuan fell into the water last year and was rescued with great difficulty. If something were to happen to her again, how could I, as her mother, live?" As she spoke, Jue Luo Shi choked up.

Shumulu understood that this was a grudge against their household, but the truth of the matter still needed to be investigated. Was it too early to start blaming them now?

Tong Cheng'er felt uneasy listening to this. The whole thing was very strange, and she didn't want to take the blame for it.

She then said, "Mother, I know I didn't plan this well enough. My two elder sisters fell into the water, and I am partly to blame. How about we have a doctor check if they are alright?"

Shumulu: "Yes, yes, Doctor Chen, please take a look at the two princesses."

Doctor Chen took the pulses of Shuyuan and Tong Yunyao, and then said, "The two princesses are fine, just a little weak. They just need some nourishment."

Shumulu breathed a sigh of relief; thankfully, nothing serious had happened.

"Then I'll have to trouble Dr. Chen to make the trip."

Just as the doctor was about to take his leave, Tong Cheng'er spoke up: "Dr. Chen, please wait a moment. The two sisters just said they twisted their ankles. Could you take a look? They also fell into the water earlier, so it wouldn't be good if something got stuck."

Shumulu had completely forgotten about this: "Yes, yes, let's take a look at the feet too."

These words startled Shuyuan and Tong Yunyao. Neither of them had any foot injuries. They had originally planned to push Tong Cheng'er into the water, and in the chaos, no one paid attention to their twisted ankles.

Tong Yunyao, who was the least composed, said somewhat guiltily, "No...no need!"
