Two days passed in the blink of an eye. Tong Cheng'er, wearing a peach-pink begonia-patterned cheongsam and matching pink embroidered shoes, followed Shumulu into the carriage bound for the Prince's Mansion.
The invitation to the flower viewing banquet was delivered by Madam Ma, the second wife of Prince Gong.
The carriage moved slowly down the street. Perhaps because the journey was so difficult, Tong Cheng'er didn't feel any bumps. However, the slow speed made the carriage a bit boring.
Tong Cheng'er couldn't help but ask, "Mother, why would the Princess Consort of Prince Gong hold a flower-viewing banquet out of the blue? It's so boring."
It forced her to go out. All flowers look pretty much the same, and she felt that the flowers in her own garden were beautiful enough; she didn't need to admire other people's flowers.
Shumulu was Tong Cheng'er's mother and knew her temperament best. Hearing these words, she knew that Tong Cheng'er was probably harboring resentment.
Why are you so reluctant to go out when I ask you to?
Tong Cheng'er said sullenly, "I'm not unhappy."
"Try to control your expression" is a somewhat believable statement.
Okay, she just doesn't want to go out.
Actually, she had attended similar banquets before, but these banquets were really boring to her.
Women her age tend to talk more about needlework and housekeeping, or more profound topics like music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. These are not within her area of interest, so she naturally has no desire to continue the conversation.
While everyone else gathered together chatting and talking at the banquet, she could only find a secluded place to stay, feeling incredibly bored.
After traveling for about half an hour, the carriage finally stopped, and a servant's voice came from outside: "Princess Consort, Princess, we have arrived."
This wasn't Tong Cheng'er's first time visiting Prince Gong's Mansion, so there wasn't anything she was curious about along the way.
She followed her mother, Shumulu, to pay respects to Madam Ma, the wife of Prince Gong. Then, she was taken by Huiyu, the fifth princess of Prince Gong's mansion, to a unique garden that was specially used to entertain unmarried princesses.
Along the way, Huiyu thoughtfully introduced the scenery to her. As the emperor's younger brother, Prince Gong's residence was naturally quite impressive. In particular, Huiyu's witty remarks were quite delightful to hear.
Huiyu noticed that Tong Cheng'er was listening attentively and developed a good impression of her. As the only princess in the Prince Gong's mansion who was capable of entertaining people, she had said the same things to many people. However, she could tell that most of them were just going through the motions, or that although they listened attentively, their motives were not pure, which she did not like.
