Chapter 756 The Apocalypse Has Truly Arrived 3
First, it was the first time he had killed someone—or, to be more precise, killed a corpse.
Secondly, the zombies smelled incredibly foul, making him want to vomit.
Mrs. Wang ran around the zombies to her husband's side, patting his back with trembling hands while crying and comforting him, "It's alright, it's alright, it's okay now..."
He wanted to cry like his wife, but their son was gone. In the storage room, all that remained were the blood from their son's body and some mangled limbs.
But I can't, crying won't help.
After vomiting enough, Boss Wang finally stood up. He walked to the outside of the Ning family's courtyard, thanked Ning's father, and then took his pale-faced wife home.
The son's body had to be disposed of properly; cremation was out of the question, so burial was the only option.
The couple had just entered their home when several more zombies appeared on the street.
Ning's father was watching from the yard, and upon seeing this, he was so frightened that he immediately went back to the living room.
“I regret it. I should have reinforced and raised the courtyard wall when my daughter said the end of the world was coming. Now it’s too late to do it.”
Ning Yan took out a large knife from the Divine Palace. "Take this. If anyone breaks into our house, feel free to chop them down."
Ning's father: "...Daughter, I...I have golf clubs, let's skip this one."
"Dad, this knife is incredibly sharp. I guarantee it can sever a zombie's head in one stroke."
"Ah? Ah! Okay, okay, I'll use it then."
So, the daughter wanted him to use a knife to kill zombies. Then there's no problem.
Even though it's the end of the world, he still couldn't bring himself to kill someone with a knife all at once.
Ning's mother grew anxious, "Yanyan, what about me?"
Ning Yan then took out a steel pipe that was more than a meter long.
“Use this, it’s long enough. When the zombies come, use it to smash their heads. If you can’t hit their heads, you can use it to hold the zombies in place so they can’t grab you.”
Ning's mother took the steel pipe and swung it forcefully. "Okay, this is it. I'll practice it properly later and try to be able to take down a zombie head with each hand."
After handing over the weapons, Ning Yan pulled her father into the kitchen. "Dad, hurry up and make some dough for steamed buns. We'll steam buns for dinner tonight."
Ning's father: ...He really doesn't know how to do this.
But it's okay, my daughter knows how.
He was meticulous in his business dealings and in his work as well. He calculated exactly how much yeast to put in a pound of flour and how many packets of yeast to put in a bag of flour. He took out the large iron basin for kneading dough that his daughter had just brought back from their supermarket, washed it clean, and started kneading the dough with great effort.
Ning's mother put the steel pipe aside and went to the kitchen to wash vegetables.
The TV was still showing videos of zombies attacking humans on the streets of some place, but after witnessing their neighbor kill a zombie, or perhaps because the children's emotions had stabilized, they were no longer so afraid.
They felt relieved, but Ning Yan was about to explode!
Her arms ached from working like that for so long.
Cooking occasionally is a way to enjoy life, but doing it all day long is torture for her.
No, it's a bit lonely for three people to live together. We should find someone to do these chores.
Around 5 p.m., steamer after steamer of large buns came out of the pot. They had fillings like chives and pork, pickled cabbage and pork, cabbage and radish, bok choy and spinach, and radish. Basically, they used whatever fillings they could make.
After steaming all the noodles, Ning Yan collapsed onto the sofa, exhausted.
She'd rather die than do this lousy job.
"Yanyan, the porridge is ready. Hurry up and put these away."
Ning Yan reluctantly got up. In the kitchen, there were four stoves, an induction cooker, and more than a dozen rice cookers, all cooking porridge of various kinds.
Once the porridge is cooked, put it away. Ning's mother still needs to keep an eye on the pot in the kitchen. She's not good at cooking, but she can definitely keep the porridge from burning.
Ning Yan didn't want to eat dinner. When her mother saw that her daughter was exhausted, she quickly said, "Have a steamed bun to fill your stomach. Go to bed early tonight, and we won't cook anything else."
Ning Yan didn't eat the steamed buns, but she drank a bowl of mung bean porridge. She felt a bit feverish and needed to cool down.
After finishing our meal, we went back to our room. That night, the roars of zombies in the neighborhood never stopped.
On the second day of the apocalypse, Ning Yan woke up and started checking the messages in the homeowners' group chat.
Everyone inside was talking about how so-and-so's family member had turned into a zombie, how so-and-so's family member had been bitten by a zombie last night, and even suggesting that they go out in a team to search for supplies today. After all, no one stores a lot of vegetables; they buy them as needed.
After a simple breakfast, Old Wang from next door called Ning's father.
"Old Ning, everyone else has teamed up to go out and find supplies, let's go together."
It's safer if both families act together. "The child is gone, but life goes on."
Ning's father: "Wait while I ask my wife and children what they think."
He hung up the phone first, then looked at his daughter, "Daughter, how about your Uncle Wang and I go look for supplies later, and you stay home with your mother?"
“We have everything we need, there’s absolutely no need to go out. But since you didn’t refuse, let’s go out for a bit, the three of us will go together.”
Ning's parents: ?
"Don't worry, the apocalypse has just begun, there won't be any burglaries for now. Everyone's attention is focused on the shops outside, so there's no need to worry about anyone stealing things."
Ning's parents quickly went back to their room to change into clothes that would be more suitable for fighting and working. Ning Yan was already wearing a tracksuit and didn't need to change.
After changing his clothes, Ning's father called Old Wang next door, and the two families drove their own cars toward the shops on the street.
The sound of the car engine attracted many zombies, but they weren't fast enough to catch up with the car. Ning Yan simply rammed into the occasional zombie that suddenly appeared. She had several cars in her garage, so she didn't care if they were damaged.
The Wang family consisted of just the husband and wife, plus the three of them. They didn't dare go into any large supermarkets, but they did find a few small shops. The Ning family already had goods at home, so their desire to rob wasn't strong. The main reason was that Ning's parents wanted to practice killing zombies.
Let the Wang family take what they want to take; they prefer to take vegetables, instant heating products, and women's products.
The car had limited space and was quickly filled up.
The Wang couple, on the other hand, travel in a motorhome, which allows them to carry quite a lot of stuff in one trip.
This is a 24-hour convenience store.
As soon as Ning Yan entered, she spotted the large freezer containing ice cream. Just as she was about to pretend to take some ice cream, a zombie heard the noise and rushed out of the lounge.
Ning Yan quickly stepped aside, "Dad, come quick!"
Ning's father, who was only two steps behind her, rushed over with a machete in hand.
The Wang couple also took out their weapons and adopted a defensive stance.
Ning's father didn't know any fighting techniques; he just swung the knife at the zombie's neck, and in one swift motion, the zombie's neck separated from its body like tofu.
Boss Wang is now extremely envious of Ning's father's big knife. It's truly amazing; it can cut down any zombie it encounters with just one move.
When Ning's dad first started killing zombies, he was impressed by his knife. After half a day, he had killed more than twenty zombies and was used to it.
"Be careful, everyone, check if there are any more zombies," Ning's father reminded them.
