Chapter 271 Passerby A Who Died on the Battlefield During the War of Resistance Against Japan (Part 3)
"Mom! I miss you so much!"
Jiang's mother patted Jiang Yue with a smile on her face: "I miss your mother. She didn't even call home during the whole holiday."
"Hehe, didn't you forget? Mom, I brought you a gift."
The mother and daughter walked home hand in hand. When they got to the living room, Jiang's father was engrossed in reading the newspaper. Jiang Yue looked at her mother with a questioning expression. Her mother gestured for Jiang Yue to go and coax him: "Go and coax your dad. It's your fault for not calling home once after you went to Grandma's house."
"Mom will go and bring you your food. You must be starving since you're back so late."
After Jiang's mother left, Jiang Yue took out a small jar from her bag, which contained a gift for her father. She ran to her father's side, leaned close to him, and sweetly called out, "Dad."
After shouting, Jiang Yue noticed goosebumps on her father's arms, and she herself felt unwell. Oh no, she had used too much force.
"Ahem, Dad, I brought you a gift. I went through a lot of trouble to get it. I promise you won't be angry with me after you see it."
Seeing Jiang Yue's confident and mysterious demeanor, Jiang's father put down his newspaper and looked at the jar in Jiang Yue's hand: "Really?"
Jiang's father wasn't really angry, he was just being a little arrogant. Jiang Yue offered him a way out, so he took the opportunity to back down.
Jiang Yue raised her arm and held up three fingers: "It's real, more real than gold. I spent all my allowance since I was a child on this gift. Remember to give me back my allowance after you've finished reading it."
Mr. Jiang took the jar with some skepticism. He felt a warm, smooth texture as soon as he touched it. He then examined the material of the jar and found it to be a fine piece. He lifted it up to look at it, but there was no mark on the bottom. While he was still wondering about its origin, Mrs. Jiang and the aunt had already brought out the food. Seeing that the father and daughter had made up, they quickly called her over to eat.
"Dad, take your time looking. There's more inside. That's the gift for you."
After saying that, Jiang Yue ran off to eat. The gift Jiang Yue gave to her father was a can of spirit tea. The can was carved from top-grade spirit stones, and the spirit tea inside was also of superior quality. This was the kind of tea that Jiang Yue usually drank. After going to the dinner table, she took out the gift for her mother: "Mom, this is a gift for you."
After taking the small box, Jiang's mother looked at it and asked Jiang Yue, "Yue'er, what is this?"
While eating, Jiang Yue said, "Mom, this is a box of skincare products. Touch my face. I've been using it for a month. Look how smooth my skin is."
She was also hungry. She hadn't eaten much on the train because there were other people around. The last time she ate was at noon.
Jiang's mother opened the lid and saw that it was a green paste with a particularly refreshing herbal fragrance. Seeing Jiang Yue's cheeks puffed out from eating, she unconsciously reached out and pinched her face, which felt as soft and smooth as a baby's, full of youthful vitality.
"Huh?~"
"It's definitely much better. Is this what you're using? Where did you get it?"
"When I went to the bookstore to buy a book at my grandma's house, I found a recipe inside. I made it according to the recipe. I didn't call you because I was busy researching this. Some of the herbs in the recipe were hard to find, and the dosage of some ingredients was also unclear. It took me a long time to make it."
"Will this cause a rash?"
"No, the worst-case scenario is that it won't work; just wash it with water."
"How do I use this? Should I use it at night or in the morning?"
"Wash your face before going to bed, then apply a thin layer of the product. Wash it off with water after 15 minutes. If you persist for half a month, you will see results."
"Okay, then Mom will try it when she goes to sleep later."
After discussing the cosmetics, Jiang's mother started serving Jiang Yue her meal, picking up this dish and that dish from her plate. She was busier than Jiang Yue herself, who was eating. After a while, Jiang's mother remembered Jiang's father and looked over at the sofa, but he was nowhere to be seen.
"Huh? Where's your dad? Didn't you appease him?"
"He probably went upstairs to make tea. I gave him a tin of tea... Oh no!"
After Jiang Yue finished speaking, she ran to the study on the second floor. She forgot to tell her father that she should only put in one tea leaf at a time. He didn't know that this tea was different from the previous one. One tea leaf could be drunk for several days. According to the previous brewing method, pinching a small pinch would be a waste.
Ignoring her mother's calls from downstairs, Jiang Yue ran to the study and pushed open the door. Just as her father was about to put in the tea leaves, Jiang Yue hurriedly called out, "Dad! Don't put in so many, just one leaf is enough!"
"One?"
"Hmm, try putting in one stick first. This tea can be brewed many times with just one stick; putting in too many would be a waste!"
Jiang's father was skeptical of Jiang Yue's words, but he tried putting in a tea leaf to test it. To his surprise, the aroma of tea wafted out in just a short while. Jiang's mother had just caught up with Jiang Yue and hadn't even had a chance to ask her what had happened when she smelled this domineering fragrance.
Although Jiang's mother didn't know as much about tea as Jiang's father, as his wife, she did know a little. She came over, smelled the tea, and confirmed that the aroma was coming from the teapot in front of her. So she sat down next to Jiang Yue and decided to try it to see if it tasted good.
After waiting a while, Jiang's father poured three cups of tea based on his experience. Although Jiang Yue had drunk a lot before, her taste buds were new, and she was instantly conquered by the aroma. Jiang's father and mother were the same, and even the aunt who came up with them was dazzled by the fragrance.
If the tea hadn't been so hot, it probably would have been gone in a few minutes. After finishing the pot of tea, all three of them had bulging stomachs. Jiang's father turned the teapot over and, when no tea came out, he realized what was happening. Jiang's mother said to Jiang Yue, "Yue'er, is this tea a gift you gave to your father? Is there any more? If so, give some to Mom."
Jiang's father wanted to say something, but Jiang's mother glared at him and shut him up. After glaring at him, Jiang's father turned to Jiang Yue and said, "Don't worry about your dad, one share is enough for him."
"There's one jar left, but we've run out this year. I'll write to the Taoist priest and have him send some more when the new tea comes in next year."
"Okay, you stay and talk to your dad for a bit, Mom will go downstairs and get it herself. It's in your little bag, right?"
"Um."
After Jiang's mother left, Jiang's father asked Jiang Yue if she had any more tea. Upon learning that she didn't, Jiang's father shook his head regretfully and asked Jiang Yue where the tea came from. Jiang Yue made up an excuse, saying that she met an old Taoist priest while looking for herbs on the mountain, and he gave her the tea after helping him.
Unfortunately, there's only a little left this year. These two small jars were given to her by the Taoist priest, who had set aside some of his own portion. She had already given them to her parents, and she had spent all her allowance on the tea. She asked her father when he would give her more.
Mr. Jiang always doted on his daughter, and since she had spent all her allowance on a gift for him, he opened the safe, took out $1,000, and handed it to Jiang Yue. Jiang Yue accepted it without hesitation. Afterward, Mr. Jiang quietly told Jiang Yue to see if she could get more tea next year, and give less to Mrs. Jiang and more to him.
