Director Zhang, frustrated, called for a halt, "Ji Yu, your tone is off, readjust it."
Before Lan Shu'er could catch her breath, he snapped again, "And Lan Shu'er, where did you hide when you were trying to hide? I've seen plenty of people who try to steal the spotlight, but I've never seen anyone like you who only runs to corners where the camera can't see you!"
Tong Su raised her eyes and looked at Lan Shu'er with a mocking gaze.
Lan Shu'er felt a lump in her throat, her face turning pale with anger. She wanted to say that it was clearly Xi Tongsu who had stolen her spotlight!
But she didn't dare say it, and could only obediently nod: "Director Zhang, I'm sorry, I will definitely do my best."
The third shoot.
The dancer rose and said provocatively, "Your Highness seems dissatisfied. Well, the current Emperor is your brother. You have your brother to back you up, unlike us down-and-out people."
Tong Su glanced at her indifferently: "Is this how the Prince spends his days indulging in wine and women, playing around with people like this?"
That one glance, filled with deep contempt, pressed down on Lan Shu'er like a tidal wave!
Lan Shu'er trembled, momentarily unable to distinguish whether this was a play or reality, whether it was the princess mocking the songstress, or whether it was Xi Tongsu's contempt after seeing through everything about her.
"Cut! Lan Shuer, what's wrong with your face? You're as white as a dead person. Makeup artist, touch up her makeup!"
Lan Shu'er's eyes reddened, and she forced herself to press down, clenching her fists tightly.
"Director Zhang, I was wrong, please give me another chance."
The fourth time.
"Ji Yu, your lawfully wedded wife is Xi Tongsu. What are you having an affair with that dancer for! She's just a plaything to you, don't bother with her!"
The fifth time.
"Lan Shu'er, what kind of tone is that! Stop talking like you're reciting lines, do it again!"
The sixth time.
"Lan Shu'er! If you mess this up again, replace her!"
The seventh time.
The eighth time.
The ninth time.
Director Zhang suppressed his anger, glared at Ji Yu and Lan Shu'er, and said impatiently, "Ten-minute break!"
They didn't even bother to explain why it was a NG (no good) situation.
Ji Yu and Lan Shu'er both blushed.
The scorching spotlights overhead couldn't compare to the burning sensation on my cheeks.
Lan Shu'er couldn't explain why, but she felt that when acting with Xi Tongsu, she always felt restrained and as if she was being suppressed and pressured by her.
In her aura, I felt like a joke, always making mistakes without even realizing it!
The heavy costume clung tightly to my body, preventing the heat from escaping. My back itched, and I couldn't tell if it was from the sweat sticking to my body hair or from the incredulous stares of the people around me on set. I felt like I was sitting on pins and needles, making me restless.
Even from this distance, they could almost see the surprise and mockery on those people's faces.
The first scene required nine takes, and not a single one of them was due to Xi Tongsu, but rather to the two of them!
Tone of voice, facial expressions, camera angles, positioning...
Xi Tongsu seems to be someone who was born to live under the spotlight; when the camera is on her, she moves with ease and grace.
But these experienced people, in front of her, were like toddlers taking their first steps, stumbling and making mistakes at every turn!
Even more so, an indescribable sense of panic rose in Ji Yu's heart.
He always felt that he was being overshadowed by Xi Tongsu!
It's not the kind of domineering, overwhelming force that everyone can see, but rather a silent, persistent, and insidious attack.
On camera, her performance appeared to be adequate and nothing seemed wrong, but when viewers watched, their attention would be involuntarily drawn to Xi Tongsu, leaving little room for her to focus on herself.
Is there anything more terrifying than being completely invisible on camera?
If you lack presence, you can't get attention, and that's a failure for an actor!
