In the middle of the night, a fierce wind arose, thunder roared, and amidst the rolling thick clouds, large raindrops poured down relentlessly, creating small holes in the ground.
Before the rain, the people had already used thick branches, wooden frames, large stones, and other miscellaneous materials to seal the entrance of the cave tightly. However, some water still seeped in, and the things used to block the entrance rattled loudly in the strong wind.
There are other crevices deep inside the cave that connect to the outside world. Although water seeps in, it has its advantages: after the cave entrance is blocked, the crevices can still maintain a sufficient amount of air, enough not only for breathing but also for lighting a small stone campfire.
No one in the cave could sleep. They huddled together in small groups, wrapped in sleeping bags and blankets, seeking warmth from each other.
Achoo!
Jiang Nan suddenly sneezed, wiping her nose and muttering, "I feel all wet and uncomfortable."
She had just been outside fetching water when it started raining, and even though she rushed back quickly, she was still soaked.
It's April now, and the area south of the equator is transitioning from summer to autumn. Coupled with strong winds and heavy rain, the temperature isn't exactly comfortable.
"There's no medicine here, but I'll make you some ginger water to warm you up. I'll go out again after the rain stops."
Tongsu got up, went to the cave and took out a piece of wild ginger from the wooden basket. She cut it into pieces with an entrenching tool and threw it into the kettle. She also took a small piece of wild sugarcane that she had collected, broke it open, squeezed out some juice, and put them together to boil.
Looking at the small flames dancing in the fire, Liu Yaoyue said with lingering fear, "Luckily, Sister Tongtong had prepared enough wood and food in advance, otherwise, how would we have survived this wind and rain?"
“Yes, yes, I really didn’t expect Shi Lingtong to be so well-prepared. All the food, drinks, and even the cave we’re staying in were all found by her…” Several guests huddled under the blankets, thanking Tongsu with embarrassment and shame.
Tong Su waved her hand, clearly not caring, but they felt even more ashamed.
When they first arrived on the island, they were not polite to her, but when they fell into trouble, she did not kick them while they were down, and even gave them food and lodging.
In comparison, how shameless I was! I was arrogant and haughty back then, and now I'm clinging to her. How humiliating!
"Sister Tongtong, you're too soft-hearted. You'll get bullied if you keep this up." She said that, but her tone remained calm and indifferent, without any hint of pity or sympathy for those naive and innocent girls.
Jiang Yimian breathed a sigh of relief, but then grumbled, "They deserved to be in danger! Who told them to bring it on themselves? Wouldn't it be so much better if we didn't lend them the cave and made them beg us?"
"You silly boy, don't talk nonsense if you don't understand!"
