Before leaving, Tong Su made a message talisman and sent it to the three fox demons, telling them to come to the Xuanyuan tribe to meet up. Then she took Bird Ball and headed towards the primeval forest beside the Ji River.
Fearing the bird might be in danger, she tried to tuck it into her bosom, but for some reason, the bird refused to come into her clothes, flapping and struggling wildly, chirping pitifully like a young virgin about to be raped.
Tongsu forcibly pressed its head down and stuffed it inside, pressing it against her chest. It was so frightened that its fur stood on end, and it stiffened and shrank into a stone statue, not daring to move at all.
This place has vast plains, a mild climate, abundant water resources, and extremely fertile land, making it the best place for farming and weaving. Therefore, it has become a battleground for both Xuanyuan and Jiuli.
This vast forest, however, stands abruptly between the two tribal territories, forming a natural barrier.
The missing people are those who went to the forest to gather food and never returned.
Before entering the forest, Tong Su paused, gazing at the dark, towering trees, and frowned slightly.
Something seems off.
On the flat land, there weren't many weeds, and the ground was uneven, with thick tree roots breaking through the ground and exposed to the air, and damp soil scattered everywhere.
Along the way, there was no sound from birds, insects, or mosquitoes. The trees were frighteningly tall, and the further in you went, the more lush the branches became, obscuring the sky. The deeper you went, the darker it became, with almost no light, and a faint, unsettling atmosphere permeated the air.
After walking a while deeper into the area, Tongsu suddenly heard truly panicked sounds of fleeing ahead. She quickened her pace, and the people there, hearing someone approaching, cried out in delight, "Is anyone there? Help us! Help us!"
"They're catching up! They'll eat you! Help!"
A sudden, piercing cry for help echoed through the quiet, deathly forest. Anyone in that situation would be startled, let alone actually go to rescue the person.
Ke Tongsu was not afraid at all; on the contrary, she became even more excited. However, when she jumped over the tree branch and saw the group of people fleeing in panic, her face suddenly darkened.
They were a group of strong and robust men, but now they were all in a sorry state, covered in blood, clearly having been defeated in a fierce battle and forced to flee for their lives.
Behind them, chasing after them, was a red-eyed pheasant with sharp claws and beak!
The pheasant is in its original form, with three or four heads growing on its neck, its claws stained with human blood, and its beak covered with red and white brain matter. It flies forward excitedly, chirping loudly.
"Haha, you bunch of idiots! I've been starving for ages, stop and let me have a good meal!"
The crowd had just heard footsteps approaching, and their faces were filled with surprise and relief, knowing that someone was coming to save them. But then the bushes parted, and a slender little girl appeared.
His face immediately fell.
They were a group of grown men who couldn't defeat this pheasant spirit, so how could this little girl possibly deal with this monster?
"Run! Little girl, run! This monster is going to eat people!" People shouted desperately as they ran. "Get out of here and tell the chief that the one harming people in the forest isn't a witch! It's a demon! A demon is impersonating a witch to eat people! It's a demon!"
The pheasant burst into loud laughter upon hearing this, its shrill voice growing even more piercing as it chased after the group: "Escape? How could you possibly escape! Do you think I'd let you live to tell your leader this secret? Fools!"
His eyes darted around and landed on Tong Su at the front of the crowd. His eyes lit up: "The little girl is even better! The spirit in the little girl's body is sweeter. I'll eat you first!"
