Chapter 5
Secretary Lin sighed inwardly.
I wonder what Li Qingchen's expression would be if he knew that the young master was supporting Li Nan in dealing with him?
But who told Li Qingchen to be so blind and try to poach the Qin family's crown prince?
Right? What if Miss Wen finds out about this?
Secretary Lin cautiously glanced at the boss above her and, sure enough, saw that the young master had a gloomy expression.
Qin Zhan had of course thought of this as well.
But what if Li Qingchen, who has so many resources from the Li family, can't even defeat a disadvantaged illegitimate son?
How can someone so utterly worthless continue to live in this world?
How dare they be so audacious as to covet his Ah Xin?
But... could Ah Xin harbor resentment towards Li Qingchen because of him?
Qin Zhan suddenly became enraged and kicked the desk fiercely.
The heavy rosewood desk was kicked with a loud thud, and all the books and pens on it fell to the ground, showing how hard the kick was.
Secretary Lin couldn't help but take another step back, lest she be the next unlucky one to suffer such treatment.
Qin Zhan's expression was terrifyingly cold. "Tell Li Nan to be more capable, or I won't mind replacing her with another pawn."
Secretary Lin quickly and respectfully agreed, but couldn't help but wonder what her boss meant.
I have a feeling that the young master is hinting at something, but then again, it seems like he isn't.
Forget it, let Li Nan figure it out on his own.
Qin Zhan glanced at him coldly, "Is there anything else?"
Secretary Lin: "...No, goodnight, young master."
Before Secretary Lin could leave the study, she heard the unpredictable young master say calmly, "The company will be on holiday starting tomorrow."
Secretary Lin: "???"
Is it true or false?
In recent years, the young master has worked almost year-round without a break, which means that his secretary has to rush to the company to work overtime after having her reunion dinner on New Year's Eve.
Is it only the 25th day of the twelfth lunar month this year that we're on holiday?
The surprise came too fast, like a tornado. Even the shrewd Secretary Lin couldn't help but wonder if something serious had happened to the company and it was about to go bankrupt.
Qin Zhan: "Do you have a problem?"
"No, no!"
Secretary Lin shook her head vigorously, "I'll go and inform HR right away."
Anyone who doesn't want a holiday is simply a fool!
Qin Zhan didn't speak again, sitting coldly behind his desk. His dark aura was so oppressive that even the bright lights seemed to avoid him in fear.
Seeing this, Secretary Lin opened his mouth, but could only sigh inwardly.
Ever since Miss Wen became infatuated with Li Qingchen and followed him to H City, the once arrogant and domineering Young Master Qin has become increasingly extreme and unpredictable, to the point that even Madam Qin now doesn't want to provoke him.
A notification sound suddenly broke the silence of the study. Qin Zhan glanced at it and immediately reached out to pick up his phone from the floor.
I don't know what he saw, but the gloom in his eyes dissipated, replaced by a gentle smile.
Secretary Lin didn't even need to guess; she knew it must have been a message from Miss Wen.
Only that person could tame this ferocious beast so easily.
But then, something made Secretary Lin even more troubled.
We can only pray that Miss Wen won't leave this time, otherwise...
...
Wen Xin went back to her bedroom, took a shower, changed into her pajamas, snuggled into bed, and then slowly turned on her computer.
To save money, she bought a phone that came with a phone plan, and the quality was already questionable, yet she used it for several years...
It took almost half an hour just to turn on the phone, and then a bunch of missed call notifications and messages caused the old man's phone to freeze again.
Wen Xin: "..."
Little Jin landed on the phone screen and said, "Master, the phone screen your good brother replaced for you could buy dozens of new phones."
Wen Xin was indifferent. So why not just get her a new phone?
Xiao Jin: "Isn't this all the master's own doing?"
Wen Xin's red lips twitched slightly, and she raised her finger to flick away the silly butterfly that couldn't speak.
What sins did she commit?
Aren't her fragments also victims of the Heavenly Dao's plot?
Little Jin whimpered and pretended to cry: "Waaah, Master, you don't love Little Jin anymore."
Wen Xin coldly parted her lips: "Shut up!"
She picked up her phone, which had finally finished pausing, and checked the missed calls; most of them were from Li Qingchen.
Wen Xin raised her eyebrows slightly. It was truly rare. In the past, unless he needed her to do something, Li Qingchen would not call her for ten days or half a month. She was usually the one contacting him.
However, isn't the typical trope of male protagonists in tragic romance novels that they only learn to cherish something after they've lost it?
Wen Xin's eyes remained indifferent as she slowly opened the message.
Wen Xin, where did you run off to?
What's wrong with you?
[I can't get through on the phone, and you're not replying to my texts. Haven't you made enough of a scene?]
So what if I couldn't be with you for your birthday? I already told you I had something important to do, can't you be a little more understanding?
I've booked a table at Wharton's Western Restaurant tonight to take you there. You haven't eaten there before, have you? It'll be a belated birthday celebration for you, okay?
...
That's enough! If you don't reply to my messages, we're breaking up!
Wen Xin casually scrolled through Li Qingchen's text messages. Every single one was either blaming her or carrying an air of condescending charity, as if the fact that he was sending her messages and willing to coax her with a few words was already a great favor to her.
Oh, busy?
Did Li Qingchen think she was deaf?
That night, she certainly didn't miss his voice, the voice of her beloved, on the other end of the phone.
Thinking back over the past two weeks, he kept calling and texting her, not out of concern, but simply because he was upset that a well-behaved toy he had been controlling had suddenly been lost.
A cold light flashed in Wen Xin's eyes as she opened the threatening text message about breaking up and simply replied with a "Fine".
Break up if you want, the next one will be better, why do you need a stupid male lead?
Wen Xin casually tossed her phone aside after sending the message.
But just as she picked up the iPad Qin Zhan had given her, Li Qingchen called.
She ignored him, slowly turned on the TV series she had been watching downstairs, fixed the iPad to the support of the bedside table, and then picked up skincare products and body lotion to carefully take care of herself.
After leisurely getting ready, Wen Xin finally picked up her constantly vibrating phone.
Li Qingchen had no idea how many phone calls he had made.
My phone is almost out of battery!
"Wen Xin, what kind of spoiled princess are you throwing a tantrum about? You think you're so great for not answering my calls?"
As soon as Wen Xin answered the phone, she was met with a barrage of angry words from Li Qingchen.
Luckily, she didn't put the phone to her ear; it was on speakerphone, otherwise her eardrums would have been ruptured by the dog's incessant barking.
But hearing Li Qingchen's silly barking filling her bedroom, Wen Xin frowned.
It's so noisy, she can't even hear the lines from the TV show.
Xiao Jin: "..."
Master, you shouldn't be concerned about the lines in the TV series right now, should you?
Wen Xin hung up the phone without hesitation.
The bedroom was quiet again, and she could finally watch TV in peace.
Li Qingchen: "..."
