Chapter 60

Chapter 60

"Miss, how could the young master do this?"

Xiao Lian had been waiting in the palace for Wen Xin to return, but she couldn't find her. Worried, she went to Shangguan Hao, hoping that he would help her find her, considering that Miss was his first wife.

Xiao Lian never expected that Shangguan Hao would be so cold-hearted. Not only did he not care about her life or death, but he also ordered people to forcibly throw her back into the Marquis's mansion.

Finally, after much anxiety, Xiao Lian waited until her young mistress returned unharmed.

However, as soon as she entered the Marquis's residence, the Marquis of Xuanwu made things difficult for her daughter.

Xiao Lian was of low status and not qualified to enter the main hall. She was blocked outside by the servants and could only watch helplessly as the Marquis's wife and the young master humiliated her.

Xiao Lian was both angry and helpless; her young mistress was living in this godforsaken place without any dignity.

Those people are not human!

Wen Xin shook her head, her expression sorrowful. "He said it was me who harmed Xian-mei."

Xiao Lian was furious. It was clearly Wen Xian's own fault for bringing this upon herself!

She choked up, "They just pick on the weak and deliberately torment the young lady."

Wen Xin bit her lip, "Xiao Lian, don't say anymore. I didn't expect that Grandpa and Sister Xian would be severely punished by His Majesty. If I had known..." she would still have done it!

Xiao Lian, however, thought that her mistress had softened her heart and said angrily, "Miss, you did nothing wrong. They deserved it. His Majesty is wise."

Whether the Wen family is in power or not makes no difference to Miss Wen; they have long since abandoned her and don't care whether she lives or dies.

In that case, Xiao Lian thinks it's better if the Wen family is utterly unlucky!

At least they no longer have the right to bully or coerce the young lady.

However, given how much the Marquis of Xuanwu adores Wenxian, he will surely take his anger out on the young lady.

Xiao Lian was filled with distress and extremely worried about her young mistress.

Wen Xin sighed softly and patted the back of her hand, "Let's take it one step at a time!"

In the dim night, with the shadows of the trees swaying, two slender women walked through the quiet hanging flower gate and corridor of the Marquis's mansion, their shadows stretched long.

They are like wandering souls, here, uncared for and unaccepted, struggling to survive, filled with sorrow and loneliness, not knowing when it will end.

"The Crown Prince's wife goes inside; all other personnel may leave."

Xiao Lian helped Wen Xin walk to the ancestral hall of the Marquis of Xuanwu's mansion, where they were stopped by two burly old women.

They were arrogant and didn't take Wen Xin, the Crown Prince's wife, seriously at all.

Xiao Lian was furious. It's unbelievable that any Tom, Dick, or Harry dares to step on her master!

Wen Xin stopped Xiao Lian, who wanted to argue with the two women, and told her to go back to the courtyard; she could go in by herself.

"Miss!"

"It's okay, it's not like I've never knelt before."

Ever since Wen Xin married into the Marquis's mansion, the Lady of Xuanwu Marquis has never had a single day when she looked at her with a pleasing expression, and making her kneel in the ancestral hall as punishment was a common occurrence.

Xiao Lian was about to cry. Her young lady was so good, why did all those people have to hurt her?

Wen Xin gave her a gentle smile, "Go back, don't make me worry."

Xiao Lian's suggestion to stay and wait for her was cut off.

Every time she stayed behind, she would be bullied by these two women, which made Wen Xin even more heartbroken.

Xiao Lian wiped away her tears, "Then tomorrow, I'll bring you breakfast. You...you must take good care of yourself."

"I know."

Under Xiao Lian's distressed and worried gaze, Wen Xin entered the ancestral hall.

The two old women laughed disdainfully, which made Xiao Lian glare at them angrily.

These snobbish lackeys who look down on people!

The two old women wouldn't tolerate Xiao Lian glaring at them, and immediately tried to pull her hair and hit her.

Who doesn't know that Wen Xin is nominally the Crown Prince's wife, but in reality, she lives a life worse than a dog?

What is that lowly maidservant of hers anyway?

Xiao Lian cleverly turned and ran away, ignoring the two shrewish women cursing her from behind.

...

The ancestral hall was deathly silent, the candlelight flickered, and the rows of memorial tablets were eerily quiet.

However, neither the fragments of her soul from the past nor Wen Xin herself are afraid of ghosts.

In the Wen family's house, the dilapidated courtyard where she lived was even more remote, with a bamboo grove behind it. It was said that someone had hanged himself there before, and the night wind howled.

She's lived here for over ten years, and even if she's afraid, she'll get used to it.

Besides, what's so scary about ghosts compared to people?

Is it just to make her kneel before the ancestors of the Shangguan family?

The firelight reflected in Wen Xin's eyes, making them appear cold and indifferent.

Her red lips curled slightly, a cool and sarcastic expression on her face.

The small gold hairpin rested on her hair bun, like a delicate butterfly bead, making the girl even more charming and beautiful.

"Master, should Little Gold tear this place down?"

Wen Xin chuckled, "Stop it. Although the Shangguan family's descendants are all ugly and deformed now, what does that have to do with their ancestors?"

Xiao Jin pouted, "That could also be a case of the upper beam being crooked, and the lower beam being crooked too."

If none of the descendants are good, then the ancestors weren't much better either?

Wen Xin's gaze swept over the ancestral tablets of the Shangguan family, "Never mind."

Suddenly, Wen Xin raised her eyebrows slightly, lifted her skirt, and knelt on the cold floor.

Xiao Jin: "???"

What are you going to do now, Master?

It soon found out again.

The door to the ancestral hall was suddenly pushed open, and a cold, oppressive atmosphere rushed in.

A purple figure brazenly stepped across the threshold and entered the ancestral hall.

"who?"

The girl kneeling on the ground turned her head in fright. In the dim firelight, her face was pale, her eyes were filled with tears, and she looked fragile and pitiful.

The man paused, a surge of violent rage rising within him, almost causing him to order the massacre of the entire Xuanwu Marquis's residence.

What a bunch of bastards! They're really something, bullying a weak girl like that.

But when he saw the tears in the girl's eyes, he suppressed his anger, not wanting to frighten the little dumpling again.

The man in purple curled his thin lips into a wicked and arrogant smile. "What? It's only been a few hours, and you've already forgotten about me?"

Wen Xin finally recognized who it was. Her tense, trembling body relaxed, and she knelt on the ground, stammering, "It's you!"

Her unguarded demeanor greatly pleased the man in purple.

He crouched down, close to the soft-spoken girl, his low, magnetic voice sounding slightly disdainful, "Why are you always so disheveled whenever I see you?"

Wen Xin stared at him blankly, unsure of what to say for a moment.

The man poked her with his long, slender fingers. "Silly girl!"
