Chapter 17 The Ungrateful Man Who Sold His Sisters to Escape the Mountains
Zhang Xiaoxiao didn't understand why Ji Huaizhi was treating her so badly: "Brother Ji, I just came to see you."
“I’m your boss, and you’re my employee. I hope you can have some boundaries. Take your things and get out.” Ji Huaizhi didn’t give her any face.
Zhang Xiaoxiao was really about to cry.
"I made this," Ji Xiang said softly.
Seeing her second brother looking at her, she repeated, "This is the food I made for you."
Ji Huaizhi: "Leave your things and get out."
Zhang Xiaoxiao finally couldn't hold back her tears and ran out.
Ji Xiang felt a little happier and opened the lunchbox for her brother.
"What are you so happy about?" Ji Huaizhi looked at her, puzzled. "You cooked for me and she almost stole the credit. Aren't you happy?"
"I'm not happy," Ji Xiang said honestly, "but I thought that if you ate it, then my efforts wouldn't have been in vain."
Ji Huaizhi closed his eyes and took a deep breath: "Since you cooked this meal, you should let me know that you worked hard to make it, instead of just thinking that I should eat it."
"In the future, if you do the work but someone else takes it for you, the boss will only think that you were lazy and didn't do the work."
"It's the same as not doing anything at all, so what's the point of doing this job?"
Ji Xiang acted like a child who had done something wrong.
She looked up cautiously and said, "You used to steal the pig feed I cut. You told Mom and Dad that you cut it, but they said I was lazy."
Ji Huaizhi blinked, feeling a little guilty even though he hadn't done it.
"Yeah, why didn't you tell your parents back then?"
Ji Xiang: "I told them, but they didn't believe me."
Ji Huaizhi: "..." It's alright, it's understandable, I'll teach you slowly.
"Let's eat. I've been ignorant before too. Just remember what I just told you next time."
Ji Xiang nodded and ate with her second brother.
She always felt that her second brother was doing very well now.
She's not afraid of him anymore.
"Second brother, don't you like Xiaoxiao?" Ji Xiang asked curiously.
Why should I like her?
Yes, Ji Xiang's cooking skills are really good. I'll treat myself to having her move in with me in the future.
“Many people like her,” Ji Xiang said after thinking for a moment.
Ji Huaizhi: "This 'many' doesn't include me, and when she first arrived, did you forget what she said?"
Ji Xiang was puzzled and had no recollection of it.
Ji Huaizhi looked up at her: "Do you think I would have a good impression of someone who said my sister is unsophisticated?"
Ji Xiang felt a little happy after hearing this. So this was why her brother disliked her. Her brother still cared about her. Thinking this, she slowly started swinging her legs.
"People need to learn to get angry and say no. If you act like you're easy to bully and never get angry, then other people won't care about your feelings when they speak to you, and they won't respect you either."
Ji Xiang was stunned for a moment.
“But sometimes I find it hard to refuse, and shouldn’t friends help each other?” Ji Xiang’s eyes showed confusion.
"Why is it so difficult? If you don't care too much about this relationship, it's easy to say no." Ji Huaizhi said calmly, "Don't let anyone hold you hostage. As long as you don't care, no one will hurt you."
“And…” Ji Huaizhi looked up at her, “You’ve never rejected anyone, but have others ever rejected you?”

Back in the dormitory, Ji Xiang washed clothes under the tap. She had originally planned to wash her brother's clothes after dinner as well.
But her brother refused, saying that someone would deliver the washing machine later.
I'll also find some time to have her move in with me.
Ji Xiang was willing to live with her brother, but she hadn't figured out how to tell Xiao Xiao yet.
"Xiangxiang, you're washing clothes, why don't you wash mine too?" Zhang Xiaoxiao placed the clothes in the basin she was washing as a matter of course.
This feeling made Ji Xiang feel somewhat uncomfortable.
In the past, whenever she did laundry, Zhang Xiaoxiao would come over and offer to help her wash the clothes. She used to think that since they were friends, it was okay for her to wash them for her.
But then I remembered what my brother said about learning to get angry and say no. If you're always easy to talk to, no one will care about your feelings.
"Smile."
Zhang Xiaoxiao turned back before leaving: "What's wrong?"
Ji Xiang found it hard to say, but seeing her indifferent gaze, she took a deep breath and said, "You can wash it yourself."
Once the refusal is uttered, the rest is much easier to say.
"My clothes are already washed and ready to be wrung out and hung to dry, so you can wash them yourself."
Zhang Xiaoxiao frowned: "Why?"
"Your hands were all wet, so what if you washed them for me? Aren't you still my good friend?" Zhang Xiaoxiao knew that she would agree whenever she said that before.
But she was wrong this time.
Ji Xiang still didn't agree. Was this the kind of moral blackmail her brother mentioned?
"I need to read in a bit, I don't want to wash."
Zhang Xiaoxiao didn't understand why she suddenly became so unresponsive.
"You won't even help with something this small as a friend! And you call yourself my good friend!" Zhang Xiaoxiao said angrily, snatching the clothes that had just been thrown at her. "Wash them yourself if you want, I don't care!"
Ji Xiang was pushed back a step by her, and she frowned and asked, "Why are you so angry?"
"I never get angry when you reject me, so why do you get so angry just because I rejected you for one thing?"
Ji Xiang finally asked the question that had been weighing on her mind: "Xiao Xiao, have you never considered me a friend at all?"
Zhang Xiaoxiao looked up: "Do I seem like someone who lacks friends?"
"You used to be just my little follower, but in the future I might be your sister-in-law."
"Didn't you say today that you're willing to do your sister-in-law's laundry and cook for her? So what's wrong with you washing a couple of my clothes?"
"What gives you the right to refuse me?"
She didn't want the young girl she had always looked down on to be above her. Since she was her little follower, she would be her little follower for life.
Her sudden rejection really broke her.
Ji Xiang was startled by her sudden outburst.
She suddenly understood what her brother meant.
Zhang Xiaoxiao is used to giving so much, so she doesn't care about her own feelings or respect herself.
"You're not my sister-in-law, and my brother wouldn't even look at you!" Ji Xiang said angrily, picking up her things and leaving.
She felt sad, but also relieved.
Zhang Xiaoxiao was so angry at her words that she had a heart attack. She stomped her foot and took her anger out on the clothes that needed to be washed.
As Jiang Fulin was going downstairs, he ran into Ji Xiang, whose eyes were red and swollen.
"Hey sis, what's wrong?" Jiang Fulin also treated her like a younger sister. After all, he now treated Brother Ji like a brother, so Brother Ji's younger sister was his sister too.
"Did someone bully you?" Jiang Fulin's face looked fierce when he wasn't smiling, and with his buzz cut, he looked like a troublemaker.
Ji Xiang shook her head: "It's nothing, Brother Fulin. I just had a little disagreement with Xiaoxiao."
