Chapter 21 The Laziest Man in the Countryside

Chapter 21 The Laziest Man in the Countryside

(The previous chapter has been added.)

There are two groups of people in the village who are most heartbroken right now.

One group of girls had their eyes on Li Zhiqing, while another group had their eyes on Ji Huaizhi, especially those who regretted not knowing he had a job now.

Surprisingly, someone from out of town beat them to it.

It's all because my family said that the youngest son of the Ji family is lazy and won't be able to support the family in the future.

But I never expected that they would be eating commercial grain now!

Ji Huaizhi wanted to arrange a marriage for his family as soon as possible, and everyone laughed at him for being in such a hurry to get married.

The one who made the most ruthless jokes about him was Ji Lao Er.

He would often pat his wife's belly in front of Ji Huaizhi with a cheerful smile, leaving Ji Huaizhi speechless at his childishness.

After work that day, he rode his bicycle to the educated youth settlement, carrying sesame flatbread in his hand.

Upon seeing her at the door, He Yingying quickly went inside and called out, "Pearl! Your boyfriend is here!"

When Li Zhenzhu came out, she glared at her and said, "Don't shout."

He Yingying couldn't help but laugh at her shy expression: "Then I won't call him next time he comes."

When Li Zhenzhu went outside, she saw him sitting on his bicycle. When he saw her, he rang the bicycle bell: "I brought you sesame cakes!"

"You don't need to bring me food so often. Didn't you say you had to hand over your salary? How are you going to hand it over when you run out?"

Li Zhenzhu was also thinking of him; she wasn't a glutton.

If she wants to eat it, she can buy it herself.

"Take it, it's not a big deal." Ji Huaizhi had two more bags hanging on his bicycle.

Li Zhenzhu could tell that he brought things not only for his family but also for his own parents. This touched her deeply, and he kept bringing things over during this time, occasionally even delivering things to the back mountain.

These were all things that Li's mother told her in secret; she had never heard Ji Huaizhi say them.

"Wait here, I have something for you too."

After Li Zhenzhu went in, she didn't notice that everyone at the educated youth settlement was looking at her. When they saw that she was carrying something in her hand, they were surprised that a country girl was so open about dating.

Ji Huaizhi raised an eyebrow at the cloth shoes in his hand: "You made these?"

Li Zhenzhu nodded: "I learned from them. Try it on and see if it fits."

Ji Huaizhi didn't stand on ceremony. He parked his bicycle, tried on the cloth shoes, and even stepped on them in place to test them: "They fit perfectly. How did you know my size?"

"I asked Aunt Xiuju."

"Not bad, I'm going back now." Ji Huaizhi winked at her.

Li Zhenzhu was overjoyed. When she turned to go back to the courtyard, she didn't expect Zhang Miao and He Yingying to be smiling at her at the door.

"Comrade Li Zhenzhu, are you still going to eat if you're laughing so happily?" He Yingying asked her.

"Of course I want to eat it."

In fact, after the people at the educated youth settlement learned that Li Zhenzhu was dating the village secretary's youngest son, they always felt that the atmosphere was a bit strange, as if they did not expect her to get married so soon after arriving.

Although the atmosphere was somewhat awkward, no one said anything unpleasant.

They just say "congratulations" and that's it.

However, Li Zhenzhu could tell that the people at the educated youth settlement were looking at her differently now; sometimes, when she entered the room, the people who were supposed to be talking would stop talking.

Apart from Zhang Miao, everyone else has become somewhat distant from her.

Actually, she felt that He Yingying had distanced herself from her before, but it didn't take long for them to return to normal.

She didn't take it too seriously, after all, she was already very tired from work every day, and she was still thinking about her parents.

"Li Zhenzhu, did you marry the village secretary's youngest son to avoid labor?" The speaker was a male educated youth who came with Li Zhenzhu and the others.

Everyone was eating together when they heard this and looked up in surprise.

"Comrade Wanqiao, it's my freedom to marry whomever I want. If you don't want to work, you can get married off."

Although Li Zhenzhu has a good personality, she was also spoiled and pampered growing up.

He simply put away his sharp edges after a family tragedy.

"What do you mean by that? How can a grown man like me get married?" The man's face turned ashen.

He just can't stand people who shirk their work.

We all went to the countryside together and worked together. Everyone was exhausted. Unexpectedly, some of the educated youth got married and went to enjoy a better life.

He couldn't resist making a sarcastic remark.

"Didn't you say I was shirking work? I thought you were trying to shirk work too," Li Zhenzhu retorted softly. "But what does my getting married have to do with shirking work?"

"Even after you get married, you still have to go to work, right?"

"Do you all think that I'll be able to enjoy a life of leisure after I get married?" Li Zhenzhu retorted.

Then everyone realized, "Oh yeah."

Getting married just makes her life easier; it doesn't mean she doesn't have to work anymore.

"If you marry the village secretary's son, the work you'll be assigned will be easy." The man's words had a hint of sourness in them.

He Yingying rolled her eyes: "Wanqiao, you're talking like you like Ji Huaizhi too. Anyone who didn't know better would think you're jealous."

Zhang Miao covered her mouth and chuckled: "It's fate that they're together, there's no need to say that."

"Besides, there's no rule that educated youth can't marry locals."

Others also began to persuade her: "Yes, marrying a local has its pros and cons, as long as you don't regret it."

"yes."

"I think the youngest son of the Ji family treats Pearl quite well. Have you told your family that you two are dating?"

Li Zhenzhu nodded: "They said they called from town and even sent me my dowry. They're all putting me first. They'll take a picture after the wedding and send it back."

When they heard her mention marriage, everyone was somewhat dazed.

They've waited so long to go back to the city; they're all getting old.

"Marriage, ah, marriage is actually a good thing," a dark-skinned woman said wistfully. "I wonder if I'll ever be able to get married if I keep waiting like this."

Li Zhenzhu didn't expect that her words would make them think so much: "Actually, everyone has different ideas. Maybe your insistence is right?"

"I just happened to run into it."

Zhang Miao: "When are you planning to get married?"

"Early next month," Li Zhenzhu replied.

"So fast?" He Yingying exclaimed in surprise.

The others were also surprised: "That's really fast, don't you want to think about it?"

"Yes, if he's in such a hurry to get married, there must be something he's hiding from you. Is his illness cured?"

"Think it through yourself, it's too hasty."

Li Zhenzhu also felt a bit anxious, but he said that married employees have the opportunity to be allocated housing, and since they would all get married sooner or later, they might as well get married sooner.

"Wedding preparations also take time." Zhang Miao didn't say anything else.

Li Zhenzhu nodded: "There's enough time. Nowadays, don't people usually decide on a date before getting married?"

Everyone felt that Li Zhenzhu had been deceived.

The way they looked at her was as if she were a naive young girl who had been tricked into marriage.

Zhang Miao felt that everyone was overthinking it.

After all, the Ji family had a good reputation in the village, and it was clear that Pearl's three sisters-in-law had never suffered any grievances in the Ji family.

Li Zhenzhu didn't take their words to heart, after all, she was capable of discernment.
