Chapter 23 The Ungrateful Man Who Sold His Sisters to Escape the Mountains
“They also think that if he hadn’t lent his brother money back then, he wouldn’t have the wealth he has now.”
“If this money is not repaid, my brother will always owe the village a huge favor.”
Ji Changcheng and Liu Ermei were somewhat stunned.
Watching my daughter, who used to be timid as a mouse, speak clearly and distinctly, it was as if I were explaining the whole story to them in detail.
“If this money had been repaid, the favor my brother did for paying for the road repairs would have been considered settled.”
Ji Xiang: "But if this money is never repaid, it's like having a ticking time bomb here. And the original purpose of building this road will be changed."
Ji Changcheng lowered his head: "So what? My son has money."
What else can they do?
Liu Ermei didn't say anything; she seemed to realize that the couple had probably done something wrong.
Ji Xiang knew her father was stubborn and probably already knew he was wrong.
However, he would not admit his mistakes and felt that his children were blaming him for infringing on his authority.
“You’re living the high life with your brother outside, and you’re blaming your father for being incompetent!” Ji Changcheng said with a dark face.
Ji Xiang shut up.
"You're not young anymore, so don't go out after the New Year. Your aunt said she'd introduce you to someone."
Ji Changcheng's words did not cause Ji Xiang's expression to change.
She knew her brother wouldn't agree.
"Dad, that's not what I meant. You're the head of our family, so of course we have to listen to you." Ji Xiang has now learned to talk nonsense.
"The reason I work so hard to earn money is so that I can bring you to the city to live a better life."
Ji Changcheng felt a little better, but then he thought about how he hadn't seen his child for a year and that it was just the two of them at home.
It's incredibly deserted.
But he remained defiant: "For us? We barely see him once a year and you say it's for us?"
Liu Ermei tugged at her husband's sleeve: "That's enough, isn't it? Who in the village doesn't envy you now?"
“Wasn’t Brother extremely busy before? Now that he’s finished, he’s back, isn’t he?” Ji Xiang continued, looking at their expressions. “And this time when he came back, I heard from his assistant that he specifically bought a lake-view apartment in the city.”
"They said it's specifically for your retirement!"
Ji Changcheng's eyes lit up.
Liu Ermei clutched her chest: "My good son!"
"They even bought us a house. The two of us can live comfortably in the city with just a toilet."
Ji Changcheng felt relieved; his son was still filial.
It's not as outsiders say, that they disliked them for being old and didn't want to come back to see them.
Ji Xiangsong breathed a sigh of relief; she knew her parents' personalities.
Having spent so much time hanging out with her brother, she's learned how to appease people.
"What a waste! I just said money is hard to earn and we're spending so much, really..." Although Ji Changcheng was blaming them, the corners of his mouth that couldn't help but turn up showed that he was happy.
"Is this really like spending money like it's nothing?"
Ji Xiang: "So, you all need to understand your brother's difficulties. Everything he asks you to do is for a reason."
Liu Ermei nodded: "Yes, our son is so successful now, he must be smarter than us."

After waking up, Ji Huaizhi went to see the village chief.
When he went outside, the sun was still out, and it was even warmer outside than at home.
When the village chief saw Ji Huaizhi, he patted him on the shoulder: "Good lad! I just heard you were back, so I went to your house to look for you, but your parents said you were sleeping."
Ji Huaizhi: "Well, I'm glad I woke up and came to talk to you, Uncle. Otherwise, it wouldn't be good if you misunderstood and thought I didn't want to see you."
The village chief was already used to his parents: "How could that be?"
Actually, he wanted to ask his son when he would be back, since it had been so long.
Ji Huaizhi also spoke up directly: "Zhang Da and Zhang Er haven't finished their work yet, but they should be able to come back before the New Year."
The village chief laughed so hard his wrinkles appeared.
"That's good, that's good."
"Huaizhi, your uncle also wants to thank you." The village chief's grandson was also warming himself by the stove.
"What are you thanking me for? They were helping me too." He looked at the child: "Is this Zhang Da's child? He's grown so big?"
"Yeah, I bet they've almost forgotten about his dad."
After chatting with Uncle Village Chief for a while, Ji Huaizhi brought up the matter of the previous debt: "I went to Yangcheng to borrow money from the village before, and I remember that you also lent me eight hundred at that time."
The village chief was a little embarrassed when he brought it up.
He used to talk about blowing up the latrine when he was a kid every day.
"When will you get everyone together and settle all these accounts?" Ji Huaizhi said politely. "It's my fault, I haven't had time to come back."
Ji Huaizhi did not mention his parents.
How could Uncle Village Chief not know?
Uncle Village Chief: "You've built such a long road for the village, these things are nothing compared to that. You've also provided many jobs for the young people in the village, why are you saying all this?"
Ji Huaizhi interrupted, "Uncle, just do what needs to be done. I'm also from Phoenix Village."
“My parents are immature and have never left the village. Please help me tell everyone not to take it to heart.”
The village chief smiled and said, "You're being too polite, we're from the same village. Your parents may be sharp-tongued, but they're not bad at heart."
“There was an old man in the village who broke his leg before, and your parents brought him food for several days.”
Ji Huaizhi smiled faintly.
Of course he knew.
The couple wasn't very educated and might be a bit petty, but they loved the original owner of this body.
They might not love their daughter that much, but since Ji Huaizhi is here, he will change their minds.
Ji Huaizhi took out two packs of Zhonghua cigarettes that he had prepared in advance and handed them to Uncle Village Chief: "The cigarettes I promised you before, these are better than Seven Wolves."
When he wasn't home, the village chief still helped a lot.
Given Ji Changcheng and his companion's personalities, they probably caused the village chief a lot of trouble.
Although he was thinking about his two sons working for Ji Huaizhi, he did indeed help them.
"You little rascal!" The village chief looked at the bright red packaging: "How much money did you get for all of this?"
"Take it back and give it away! Giving it to me is such a waste!"
Ji Huaizhi: "What's the waste? Let's change things up!"
"Come to our house for dinner then, and invite the elders from the village."
The villagers asked Ji Huaizhi to find them jobs, but he didn't keep everyone. He usually didn't show up in person, so his people were easy to manage.

When Liu Ermei went to visit Ji Hong in the compound, she brought four old hens.
In the morning, Ji Huaizhi saw his mother take a chicken and found it funny, so he went to the chicken coop, caught three more, tied them up, and threw them into the trunk of the car.
This broke Liu Ermei's heart.
These are all meant for Huaizhi to eat!
When they arrived at their destination, the people in the compound looked at them curiously.
Especially this girl and this man, they seem to have a very important background.
And there are cars parked outside the yard. Whose leader has come?
"Guiyang's mom! You have some rare guests at your house!"
Zhang's mother was knitting a sweater when she heard this, so she got up to check and said to Ji Hong, who was warming herself by the fire, "I'll go out and take a look."
Ji Hong was breastfeeding her baby, wearing a hat and wrapped up like a ball. All of this was sent by her younger siblings, and with the help of supplements, she was recovering very well.
Although she hasn't finished her postpartum confinement period, she can get out of bed much earlier.
The neighbors all envied her for having such a supportive family, even though they rarely visited.
But the delivery service has been a constant problem.
Zhang Guiyang's mother even gained some weight from feeding him.
"Oh my, the in-laws are here?" Zhang's mother hadn't come to visit Ji Hong's family before, even though she was feeling unwell. After all, Ji Hong was her own daughter, and the two families were relatives.
He didn't even come to see his daughter when she gave birth.
"I'm here, I'm here! I finally managed to find some time to come." Liu Ermei still knew how to say polite things.
"This is Huaizhi, Hong'er's younger brother. We're waiting for them to come back together so they can come and see Hong'er together."
Zhang's mother was content with just seeing them arrive; she didn't delve into anything else.
"This must be your second son, right? He's really accomplished!" Zhang's mother led them into the house: "I'll call Guiyang and ask him to come back. Come in and warm yourself by the fire."
