Chapter 28 The Laziest Man in the Countryside
He Xianglan and Wang Xiuju helped, while Ji Lao Er and Ji Lao San went to find a midwife.
Sister-in-law Ji and Sister-in-law Ji boiled water and prepared things. Everyone had a clear division of labor. When Ji Huaizhi saw that Li Zhenzhu looked helpless, he asked her to boil some poached eggs.
"My second sister-in-law will be exhausted after giving birth, so go and boil three poached eggs, and remember to add sugar."
Li Zhenzhu nodded hurriedly: "Okay! I'll go right away."
Li Decai waited outside so he could rush to the rescue if anything happened: "It's probably a miscarriage that started prematurely."
After all, such a loud noise would make a pregnant woman nervous.
"It's alright," Ji Huaizhi comforted Ji Lao Er.
The sounds and Ji Ersao's restrained voice could be heard coming from inside.
When Ji Lao Er got nervous, he kept wanting to go to the toilet, and everyone couldn't help but look at him frequently.
"Second Brother!"
Second Brother Ji: "I couldn't help it. My sister-in-law's childbirth experience really scared me."
As he was thinking, he saw the troublemakers at the gate of the courtyard and decided to run out and beat them up to vent his anger: "It's all your fault! If anything happens to my wife, I'll take you all down with me."
Everyone screamed and cried out as they were beaten.
The Red Guard captain hadn't expected this either. Hearing the commotion inside, he thought something had happened to the pregnant woman: "We didn't mean it. We really won't come to your village again."
"Stop, stop, stop! If I lose money, they'll go get the money, and then we'll lose money!"
Ji Lao Er felt much better after beating them up. He went back and ran to the toilet a few more times, and then heard his mother say that she had given birth to a chubby daughter.
I was so excited when I ran over that I lost my shoes.
Just then, the people who went back to collect the money returned. They had dug the money out of the ground and it was covered in dirt. They really did give each family five yuan.
The money for injuries will be paid separately, and the damage to the property also needs to be compensated.
There was no need for Ji Huaizhi's threat.
These people paid very readily, wanting to leave as soon as possible.
The other villagers were overjoyed to receive the money; they'd gotten five yuan for free!
This season's youngest son is straightforward; he doesn't forget the people in the village even after he's made his fortune.
They took the money but didn't leave, wanting to wait and see how much these people would give the Ji family. Hearing them mention medical expenses and that Ji's second sister-in-law had been frightened into giving birth prematurely, they figured they would have to pay at least fifty yuan in compensation.
Everyone wanted to see, but the Red Guard captain wanted to talk to Ji Huaizhi alone.
The Red Guard captain took out another stack of money, which was significantly larger: "This two hundred yuan is compensation. You said you wouldn't expose us."
Ji Huaizhi: "You only want two hundred to buy my mouth?"
In fact, two hundred yuan was already a huge sum of money, and Ji Laosan behind him had already widened his eyes.
Isn't this youngest brother a bit too greedy?
"What do you want?" The captain of the Red Guard felt unlucky and thought he shouldn't have come to try and save face.
"It all depends on how valuable your lives are. We are all poor farmers and don't want to cause trouble. Both times you started trouble. Now my sister-in-law has given birth prematurely, my own brother has bruises on his face, and you even smashed up our house. You'd better deal with it yourselves."
The captain gritted his teeth; every part of his body ached.
Now they've been beaten up and they still have to pay compensation.
What terrible luck!
"Brother, I'll forgive you for what happened before. Can you please not cause me any more trouble? I apologize for our recklessness, and I'm sincerely apologizing. See, you're a magnanimous person who doesn't hold grudges." The captain took a deep breath and softened his tone.
A wise person knows when to yield.
He was afraid that if it happened once, it would happen again, and someone else would have leverage over him, which would be like having a knife constantly held to his throat.
Ji Huaizhi smiled and understood what he meant.
"I don't usually go looking for trouble with others."
The captain took a deep breath and gave him all the large bills he was wearing, which was about five hundred yuan.
"He only brought this much money. I'll come to you alone tomorrow and give you another 1,500 yuan. I promise I won't cause you any trouble after this. Can you just pretend you didn't know anything about those things?"
Two thousand yuan is also reasonable.
Ji Huaizhi was not a greedy person.
He wasn't interested in those valuables; he had plenty in his storage space. But he wasn't going to pass up money that was offered to him.
“Okay, consider it a buyout. I won’t use this to blackmail you anymore, and I won’t tell anyone else. I’m a man of my word.” Ji Huaizhi paused and continued, “But if you get found out on your own, don’t blame me.”
The captain nodded; that was exactly what he wanted to hear.
I'm afraid he'll use this as leverage to blackmail me in the future.
This matter is now closed.
Ji Laosan only jumped out after everyone had left: "How much did he say he would give?"
Ji Huaizhi: "Didn't you hear that?"
"Just how much dirt have you caught on them? There are some kinds of money you shouldn't touch," Ji Laosan said, frowning.
“He’ll only feel at ease if I take this money.” Ji Huaizhi patted his shoulder: “Otherwise, even if I don’t want anything, he’ll treat me like a ticking time bomb.”
Ji Laosan clicked his tongue: "These sons of bitches, who knows where they stole this money from."
The fact that they could come up with two thousand to shut Ji Huaizhi up proves that they have even more in their hands.
After Ji Huaizhi came out, everyone surrounded him: "How much did they give your family?"
Everyone's eyes are full of gossip.
Ji Huaizhi raised an eyebrow: "I asked them for a hundred yuan, which was an exorbitant amount."
"After all, several of my brothers were injured, and most importantly, my second sister-in-law went into premature labor. I'm definitely going to take a piece of their flesh."
When everyone heard him say he wanted 100 yuan, they clicked their tongues in amazement: "You little rascal, you're a bit greedy."
They couldn't believe they would give Ji Huaizhi two thousand yuan. After all, one hundred yuan was a huge sum of money; some families couldn't even spend one hundred yuan in a year.
"They really gave it to you?"
"Did they give it to you?" someone said before the five yuan in their hand had even warmed up. "I should have asked them for more. Five yuan per household, that's several hundred yuan by now."
"Huaizhi, what secrets do you have that you know about them? They'd give you money without batting an eye?"
"Yeah, they're so rich!"
"They gave me fifty before they even gave it to me, saying they'd send the fifty over tomorrow. I guess they won't give it to me again," Ji Huaizhi said seriously.
Everyone nodded: "They definitely won't give it to you; they've already suffered such a huge loss today."
Ji Huaizhi shrugged: "Yes, as for their dirt, I saw something while I was following them, but I won't say anything to avoid anyone getting into trouble because of it."
Some people nodded, saying that earning five yuan was already very lucky.
"Then be careful, they've definitely held a grudge against you. You have something on them, so be careful they don't try to silence you."
"Yes, they definitely wouldn't dare to go to work in the village because there are too many people there, but if you go to work..."
Ji Hong frowned after hearing this.
Ji Huaizhi: "Don't worry, I said if they cause me trouble again, I'll have someone spread the word, but if they stop causing me trouble, I'll pretend I don't know anything."
"And as I said, they were the ones who caused my accident. It's too obvious, they wouldn't dare."
"Alright, let's all go home. Don't forget to go and have some meat after you've made some money today."
"Okay, let everyone know if anything comes up in the future. I made money today thanks to you."
