Chapter 33 My Fierce Wife
Ji Huaizhi waved his hand: "No need, no need, just take whatever amount is appropriate."
The two kept refusing, but Ji Huaizhi still didn't accept it. However, he took out other things from beside his feet at some point.
"Auntie, these are mushrooms I picked myself, perfect for stewing with chicken." Ji Huaizhi slung his basket over his shoulder. "And these vegetables are all homegrown, so please don't mind them. Thank you for comforting me last time."
When Zhou's mother saw this pile, she slapped her thigh and said, "What are you doing? You work so hard making all this every day."
Ji Huaizhi waved his hand: "How could that be? I picked these mushrooms this morning, they're very fresh. I'll be going now."
Zhou Shengqiang wanted him to accept the money, but Ji Huaizhi took his daughter and left.
"No need, no need, these things aren't worth much."
"How can something you worked so hard to make be worthless?" Zhou's mother chased her out, then pulled Xiao Shengkai aside, unsure of what to say.
"Have a meal before you leave, you're already at Auntie's house."
"No, no, no, I have to go back to do farm work."
The people next door thought to themselves, "Are they really relatives?"
"Why are you leaving so soon after arriving?" She wanted him to take something with him, but she was too embarrassed to ask.
"Oh, Xiufen'er?" Zhou's mother thought she could introduce him to more business opportunities: "What did you want just now? You can have him deliver it next time."
"I'd like to, but I don't know if it's convenient."
My neighbor is a leader, and it feels really inappropriate to have a relative of the leader bring me gifts.
“It’s convenient.” Zhou’s mother pushed him over: “The surrounding area is full of working-class families, they’re very generous when it comes to buying things, don’t think I’m giving you a discount just because of me.”
Ji Huaizhi expressed his gratitude and recorded the past.
Other neighbors, hearing that they could bring chickens, ducks, and other mountain produce, all came.
There were pencils in the small bag, and Ji Huaizhi had noted them all down; he needed quite a few things.
You can definitely make some money.
Zhou Shengqiang looked away: "It's probably just a coincidence. He seems to know nothing about it."
During lunch, Zhou's mother kept praising Ji Huaizhi, and everyone else thought that this country bumpkin was quite kind-hearted.
Zhou Shengqiang was delighted while eating the rabbit meat.
"At first I suspected he was after a room allocation, but it seems he doesn't know anything about it."
Zhou's mother: "What are you saying? He's a poor child, how could he have so many tricks up his sleeve?"
"Why should farmers be allocated housing?" His wife also felt he was obsessed.
He always thinks that others want to give him things.
"His wife works at XX factory, but he only mentioned it briefly and didn't say her name." Zhou Shengqiang picked up another piece of rabbit meat; the belly part was the best.
"It's probably just a coincidence. After all, those who wanted to get a room either paid money or gave generous gifts."
"He delivered a chicken and a rabbit and even took money from me, he probably doesn't know anything about it." He laughed as he said this.
Zhou's mother blinked and said, "That's great! Just give the house to her daughter-in-law. It's good to keep the good stuff in the family."
Zhou Shengqiang glared: "What are you saying? Isn't he just an outsider?"
Zhou's mother was unhappy and wouldn't let him pick up any meat.
"What are you going to eat?" Zhou's mother glared at him. "He's a pitiful man, and I really like him."
The woman asked in confusion, "What kind of person is he?"
"He's quite good-looking, probably the most handsome guy in his village, but he also seems honest and naive." Zhou Shengqiang had a decent impression of him.
"Mom treats him like her own son." Her tone was tinged with bitterness.
After telling them some things about Ji Huaizhi, Zhou's mother suddenly thought of something: "He seems to be having some discomfort in his other leg today. Did he hurt it when he was picking mushrooms for me?"
"It's not easy."
Zhou Shengqiang took the opportunity to eat meat: "I don't even know his wife's name. Besides, do you think you can exchange some mushrooms and vegetable leaves for a room allocation?"
Seeing his mother's helpless look, he said, "Fine, fine, but we have to see if his wife is eligible for a room. If she's not, he won't get a turn."
Zhou's mother: "He will come again. I will ask him then."
When Ji Huaizhi came again, he brought a lot of things with him, all of which were things that people around him had asked him to carry. They delivered them directly by tricycle, and he couldn't carry them all on his back.
Zhou's mother helped him collect the money, and after they finished, she asked him to go inside and have some water.
"No, Auntie, these are rice cakes and fried pork that my wife made." Ji Huaizhi took some things out from the corner of the tricycle, including vegetables he grew himself.
"Take this and eat it. She said thank you for introducing us to business."
Zhou's mother really thought he was too polite; what a kind person he was.
My own son is just too cunning.
"You eat it yourselves, leave it for the children." She's so old, she never expected anyone would still care about her.
"Don't be shy about the food your child has made at home."
Zhou's mother still pulled him inside to get some water, parked the tricycle in the alley, and watched him turn back every few steps, saying, "Don't worry, you won't get lost."
"Our area has the best public security."
Because the residents are all highly qualified, either junior leaders or people with good jobs, they wouldn't ruin their reputation for a little bit of cheapness.
Ji Huaizhi took the water and drank it in big gulps. Zhou's mother scolded him, "You're clearly thirsty, why don't you come in and have a drink of water?"
"No, I'm afraid I'll cause you trouble." Ji Huaizhi was still as shy as ever.
"What's the trouble?" Zhou's mother then got to the point: "What's your wife's name?"
"Last time you told my son that your wife works at the factory and that you wanted to move to the city after you were allocated a house. What's her name?"
Ji Huaizhi was somewhat surprised and chuckled inwardly: "I just said it offhand."
"It's so difficult for ordinary people like us to get housing. Do you think we'd even get a chance?" He seemed quite self-aware: "And besides, there aren't any houses to be allocated, are there?"
Seeing how honest he was, Zhou's mother was somewhat exasperated with him.
"If your wife is eligible to apply, then it's her turn."
Ji Huaizhi was surprised and blinked.
Zhou's mother said with a hint of pride, "My son is in charge of this kind of thing."
"There are two spots available, but they haven't been announced to the public because too many people are eyeing them."
"Auntie?" he asked, his voice filled with surprise.
Tell me, what's your wife's name?
“Feng Qiaoxiang!” Ji Huaizhi said excitedly, “She probably did it. She’s an advanced worker in the factory, a role model.”
Hearing him say that, Zhou's mother knew that everything was settled.
"Leave this to your brother. You can wait to come to the city and live a good life."
Ji Huaizhi looked at the things he had brought with hesitation, feeling that his gift was too insignificant.
"This... Auntie?"
"How can I possibly thank you?"
Seeing the tender look in his eyes, Zhou's mother was immediately overcome with maternal love. Her children were either at work or at school, and she felt so lonely.
“If you care about your aunt, then your aunt must care about you too.”
"From now on, you can call me Aunt Zhou. As long as you don't mind me, just come and visit me more often."
“Aunt Zhou~” Ji Huaizhi’s voice choked with emotion: “You are so good to me, just like my own mother.”
"Now that you've said that, how could I not consider you my son?"
~
"Feng Qiaoxiang!"
Hearing someone call her, Feng Qiaoxiang stopped what she was doing: "What's wrong, Sister Qiong?"
"Something good has happened. Come to my office." The man's eyes were filled with joy.
"The quota has been allocated? Is there one for me?" Feng Qiaoxiang felt a surge of excitement thinking about how Ji Huaizhi had been leaving early and returning late lately.
