Chapter 5 My Fierce Wife
“We haven’t made any trouble all these years, we’ve only sent them gifts, hoping they would treat the children better. But village chief, I don’t believe you haven’t seen anything they’ve done all these years!”
"You're a father too!"
The village chief opened his mouth and said, "I know, and I've tried to persuade him."
"But even a simpleton can't stand up for himself. This is your family matter, and I can't interfere, but I'll make this clear first," the village chief said sternly.
"Don't go too far! Otherwise, who will be responsible in the end?"
Wang Dashan nodded: "I know that. The money for my nephew's hospital visit was also paid by Ji Shichui himself. We didn't rob him."
"Otherwise, they'll accuse us of being robbers!"
"Aren't you all like that?" Huang Zhaodi lay back down on the ground, kicking her legs and waving her arms.
"You are robbers and bandits!"
"How could Ji Hanbao'er's worthless life be worthy of it? His family would be clean once he's dead, and you're bullying him."
"Village chief, you're not helping our family at all!"
People around her looked down on Huang Zhaodi for lying there like that, and they were even more vicious when they heard her words.
The two daughters-in-law, feeling ashamed, had already gone inside.
That's so embarrassing.
What will others think of their family in the future?
Ji Jianguo and his two siblings were also embarrassed, as everyone around them was saying how excessive their family had been, making them lose face.
They actually thought Ji Huaizhi was a worthless man, and that it was strange that someone would support him.
"Ji Jianguo, Ji Jianshe, your eldest brother fell while repairing your house, and you didn't even try to comfort him? How heartless of you?"
"That's right, with your eldest brother at home, you guys have it so easy, you're really shameless."
Ji Jianshe, with his neck stiff, shouted: "What's it to you? It's none of your business what happens in our family."
The village chief, seeing Huang Zhaodi clinging to his leg and unable to shake her off, said in disgust, "Ji Shichui!"
"Take your wife away with me!"
"Your family is really shameless!"
"I won't leave, village chief! If you don't help us, I'll go to your house!" Huang Zhaodi was shameless.
She's shameless, and nobody can do anything about her.
Wang Dashan looked at Ji Shichui with a mocking smile, sneered, and left.
The village chief's wife ran over, cursing, "Huang Zhaodi, you shameless thing, what are you doing with your hands?"
"You believe I'll break your hand, you believe me?"
Upon hearing the commotion, Huang Zhaodi immediately let go.
Ji Huaizhi sat on the cart, holding the child silently, while Wang Xiaoer kept nagging, "You're really good at enduring pain," and occasionally poked him to ask if it hurt.
Ji Gou'er angrily blocked his hand: "Don't poke my dad."
Wang Xiaoer's wife couldn't bear it: "It will take a long time to recover, the bones are deformed."
Suddenly, the cart wheel hit a rock, and the cart almost overturned. Wang Xiaoer quickly grabbed Ji Gou'er, and the others rushed to help Ji Huaizhi, as they couldn't afford to fall.
Ji Huai didn't fall because of his unstable center of gravity, but his injured leg made a sound as it hit the ground.
"Not good." Wang Xiaoer's expression changed: "Slow down and put the person down to check on them."
"Is this leg condition getting worse?"
Seeing that Ji Huaizhi remained silent with cold sweat beading on his forehead, someone asked, "Ji Huaizhi, how are you feeling? If it hurts, just yell it out!"
Ji Huaizhi gave a strained smile; others could tell he was in considerable pain.
"This cart is so hard to push, it hit a rock. Is your leg okay?"
Those around asked with concern.
Seeing the car in front almost overturn, Wang Dashan rushed over and asked, "What happened? Why didn't you slow down?"
Are you alright?
Ji Huaizhi's lips turned pale: "My legs were in excruciating pain just now, but they seem to feel much better after the pain subsided."
"It doesn't hurt anymore?" Wang Xiaoer asked, puzzled.
"It still hurts, but it's different from before." Ji Huaizhi looked down at his bruised and swollen leg: "It's like the dislocated bone just fell back in."
"Dad, Dad," Ji Gou'er said, looking bewildered.
The second son's wife picked up the girl and said, "Don't cry, don't cry, your father is alright."
Wang Xiaosan leaned closer and touched his leg: "It seems so. There was a bone protruding here just now. Did you really fall back down?"
Everyone felt incredibly lucky; their hearts had skipped a beat just now.
Wang Dashan breathed a sigh of relief: "Let's go to the hospital and see what the doctor says."
"Xiao San, you take them back, Xiao San and I will go." It's too chaotic with too many people; we already took leave to come here.
Going back now might prevent me from being late for work.
Wang Dashan spoke a few words to the others, who were all relatives from the Wang family. Ji Huaizhi quietly thanked them.
“Speak up, man. Your mother is our sister too.” The man patted Ji Huaizhi on the shoulder.
Upon taking a picture, the man noticed the woman was all bones and frowned. "She's really thin. All these years... sigh."
Wang Xiaoer flicked Ji Gou'er's chin: "Wife, take this girl back with you, we'll be back after we've seen her."
The second son's wife nodded.
Ji Gou'er didn't want to, so he pitifully called for his father.
"Good boy, Daddy will be back soon."
Wang Dashan and Wang Xiaoer pushed him toward the hospital, with Wang Xiaoer cursing the Ji family the whole way.
Seeing his nephew's downcast head, Wang Dashan finally spoke, asking, "If you weren't doing well, why didn't you come and call us sooner?"
"I'm afraid of causing you trouble, and my dad won't allow it."
Wang Dashan's face darkened considerably: "You're such a grown man, you won't do it just because your father forbids it?"
"Straighten your shoulders and lift your head!"
Wang Dashan's roar startled Wang Xiaoer.
His father's fiery temper was actually quite mild compared to his cousin's.
Seeing how timid my cousin was, I changed the subject: "So, Huaizhi, where's your wife? Did she go back to her parents' house? Doesn't she know your leg is injured?"
As soon as Wang Xiaoer said those words, he felt his cousin's straightened shoulders slump instantly, looking utterly miserable.
“She ran away. A few years ago, when the college entrance examination was reinstated, she was admitted to university and left me and my daughter to return to the city.”
"It's also my fault for being useless, which made her disappointed in me time and time again."
"Huh?" Wang Xiaoer didn't know what expression to make.
He felt a kick in the butt and looked over to see his father glaring at him.
"Why bring up something you shouldn't talk about?"
"Hey, hahaha, it's okay. Once your leg heals, I'll have my mom introduce you to someone." Wang Dashan felt he was really miserable.
This is the most miserable person I've ever met.
He used to dislike him a lot, since his father often sent him gifts, but he never came to visit during holidays.
Judging from the looks of it, he probably hasn't even seen the things his father gave him.
He himself was like a clay Bodhisattva crossing the river.
