Chapter 5 The Ungrateful Childhood Sweetheart
"If you're worried he'll misunderstand, I'll explain it to him next time I bring you something."
Jiang Xiaomei explained to him that although she was unhappy and a little sad, she still put Ji Huaizhi first.
"No need to explain, we were never siblings." Ji Huaizhi's head still ached a bit, it was a pity that the person ran away and he didn't get any compensation.
"Or have you gotten addicted to calling me 'brother'?"
Jiang Xiaomei blushed at his teasing expression: "You're the one who told me to call you that."
"Yeah, I love hearing you call me brother."
Jiang Xiaomei blinked shyly: "Let's go back and rest first. I'm still at work."
"I'll take you home first, and bring you dinner tonight."
Ji Huaizhi noticed that the hand she was using to support him was rough. The original owner's guilt was acting up again, and he found his wish ridiculous.
He also wants to marry Jiang Xiaomei, have children, and live a good life.
To be honest, a girl like Jiang Xiaomei wouldn't be too bad off with anyone.
The premise is that her husband doesn't have any ulterior motives.
"I'll go back by myself."
While sitting on the bus, Ji Huaizhi said, "Xiaomei, I'm sorry to have troubled you by being with me."
Jiang Xiaomei didn't understand why he said that.
But hearing this made her feel a little wronged. He had become noticeably colder after he went to school. She was actually very insecure and knew that she was not good enough for him.
So all she could do was be good to him.
"I don't feel wronged at all when I'm with you." Jiang Xiaomei smiled, her eyes red. "My boyfriend is a college student, and he's so handsome. How could I feel wronged?"
The girl's clothes and appearance may be very ordinary, but she looks good no matter what at this age.
Her eyes were sparkling as she looked at Ji Huaizhi.
"Aren't you upset?" Ji Huaizhi pinched her nose, a gesture the original owner used to make often: "You work so hard every day, and all the money is spent on me."
Jiang Xiaomei did not feel wronged.
She has no regrets about coming here from her hometown.
"Give me some time. When you move to the vicinity of the school, we can see each other more often."
Ji Huaizhi held her hand and made a promise to her.
Jiang Xiaomei's eyes lit up; of course, she wanted to be closer to him.
Throughout his freshman year, he refused to go to see him himself.
Unexpectedly, he offered to let her move to the vicinity of his university.
"No way, it would be so embarrassing if people found out you have a boyfriend with only a junior high school education. Besides, I still have my job here."
Jiang Xiaomei pursed her lips.
Ji Huaizhi looked down at her, tilting his head to the side.
It turns out this silly girl knew everything.
"Xiaomei," Ji Huaizhi called her softly.
Jiang Xiaomei looked up at him.
"sorry."
She didn't understand why he suddenly apologized.
“When I first started college last year, I had the wrong idea. I thought college was like a small society, and I was afraid of what others would think of me, afraid that they would look down on me.”
Jiang Xiaomei was surprised; it was the first time she had ever heard him say this.
"Since you earned all my tuition and living expenses, I'm even more afraid of people saying I'm a kept man."
"So I did a lot of things that made you sad."
Jiang Xiaomei was indeed sad before, but this time she spoke these words frankly, and the haze in her heart seemed to dissipate a bit, and she also had some other feelings.
We are all ordinary people, and everyone has a different perspective.
"So what are you doing now...?" Jiang Xiaomei asked curiously.
Ji Huaizhi pondered for a moment: "Maybe it's because I've matured. I used to get stuck on things."
“We should have been the closest people.”
Jiang Xiaomei's eyebrows and eyes are curved.
Hearing him say that they should be the closest people to each other made me especially happy.
Ji Huaizhi assured her, "There are jobs everywhere, and the most important thing is that we live close by."
When Jiang Xiaomei returned to work at Xinxin Hotel, the smile never left her face.
"Didn't Ji Huaizhi fall? How can you still be laughing?" The speaker was a woman from the restaurant.
She usually takes good care of Jiang Xiaomei.
She was also the first to tell Jiang Xiaomei to be more careful and not give all her money to men, but to save it for herself. She also reminded her that the original owner of this body was cunning and calculating, and not to let herself suffer a great loss.
However, Jiang Xiaomei didn't listen to any of it.
I just think Ji Huaizhi is good.
“Yes, I fell, but the doctor said it’s not a big problem. Sister Wen, that’s not what makes me happy.” Jiang Xiaomei thought that she usually trusted Sister Wen a lot.
I basically tell her everything.
"What's that?" Sister Wen couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy as she looked at her radiant face. "What sweet talk did that kid Ji use to swindle your money this time?"
“He didn’t cheat me out of money this time.” She continued, “He didn’t cheat me before either; I gave him the money myself.”
"Yes, yes, yes." Sister Wen was speechless.
That silly girl.
"Huaizhi had a heart-to-heart talk with me on the bus today and even apologized to me," Jiang Xiaomei said, her face flushed.
I took off the sleeves and apron next to me and washed the dishes with Sister Wen.
The two chatted as they washed.
She repeated to Sister Wen what Ji Huaizhi had said in the car earlier that day.
Sister Wen, being older, wasn't buying it: "Then what are you so happy about? This kid is using your money and still complaining about you; he's the one who curses you as soon as he puts down his bowl."
"But then again, the fact that he can openly tell you these things and recognize his mistakes means he's not beyond redemption."
After all, he's only in his teens or twenties, how mature can you expect him to be?
“But Xiaomei,” Sister Wen said earnestly, “I was once your age too.”
"Sometimes you still have to be careful. There's a reason why the saying 'Many bookworms are unfaithful' has been passed down through generations."
Jiang Xiaomei smiled and said, "I know Sister Wen, and I trust him."
"No one is perfect. For example, am I just a dishwasher? He's a college student, after all."
Sister Wen efficiently washed the dishes, and soon there were several piles of clean bowls beside her: "What's wrong with washing dishes? We don't steal or rob, we earn our own money and spend it ourselves."
"Just remember what I told you, it won't hurt."
A girl about the same age as Jiang Xiaomei came in, carrying a greasy bowl.
When he put it into the pool, he didn't pull back, and dirty water splashed all over Jiang Xiaomei's face.
"Hey, Zhang Hong, be careful!" Jiang Xiaomei said, looking a little unhappy. "You've got me all over."
"It was too slippery and I didn't catch it, but as long as the bowl isn't broken," the girl rolled her eyes and went to the front hall.
Sister Wen also cursed, "Are you alright?"
"It's alright."
"She's so cunning and seductive, just ignore her."
There's a reason why Sister Wen said to ignore that person. Zhang Hong and Jiang Xiaomei came to the store together. When the proprietress wasn't there, she acted like a tyrant.
The main reason is that she has an ambiguous relationship with the boss, and everyone is afraid that she will say something inappropriate in front of the boss.
"I feel that Zhang Hong has a problem with me, but I have never offended her."
Sister Wen pouted: "You're only just realizing that?"
"She's jealous that you have a college student boyfriend. Ji Huaizhi didn't tell you, did she? She used to chat with your boyfriend behind your back and talk badly about you."
"The boss's wife also praised you for being hardworking in front of everyone, saying that she wasn't as efficient as you at work, and after a while, she started to dislike you."
