Chapter 7 The Laziest Man in the Countryside 70 (7)
"I don't want it. How much was the thing you gave me yesterday? I'll give it back to you!" Li Zhenzhu pursed her lips, her little face extremely serious.
"What is it?" Ji Huaizhi pretended to be stupid, grabbing her hand and making her hold the things properly: "Go back early, you'll be very tired from work this afternoon."
Li Zhenzhu felt a chill run down her spine when he touched her hand, but he quickly let go after giving her the item.
Then she saw him shoulder his things and turn to leave. Li Zhenzhu couldn't help but call out to him, "Hey! Why are you giving me things?"
"We don't even know each other."
Ji Huaizhi didn't turn around: "Am I just naturally generous?"
Looking at what she was holding, Li Zhenzhu gave a soft snort and continued walking towards the cowshed.
What she didn't notice was that Xuanfeng was following behind her the whole time.
Li Zhenzhu was pretty and had been given gifts by people who used the occasion to confess their feelings before, but she had never met someone like Ji Huaizhi who said nothing but gave her gifts.
She didn't know how to handle the situation in this unfamiliar place, but she understood the power of gossip, especially in a village like this.
They are even more afraid of others having ill intentions.
When she got near the cowshed, she hesitated to go any further.
Because her parents weren't the only ones living there.
Hiding behind a big tree, she looked around warily, regretting coming over.
She should have gone straight back when she ran into that man; her actions were suspicious. But she was just too eager to see her parents and wondered how they were doing.
While Li Zhenzhu hesitated, she suddenly saw Xuanfeng standing on the opposite tree branch.
The bird tilted its head and looked at her: "Silly girl."
Li Zhenzhu stared at the bird for a long time: "Why can you talk, you bird?"
Xuanfeng shook his head: "Phoenix, I am a phoenix!"
Li Zhenzhu's lips twitched: "You're a parrot, aren't you? But I've never seen a parrot the color of yours before."
Xuanfeng was unhappy and flew to Li Zhenzhu's shoulder, shouting again, "Ugly monster! Ugly monster!"
Li Zhenzhu: "You are just as despicable as your master."
Xuanfeng seemed to understand, and angrily pecked Li Zhenzhu's face, but it didn't hurt, it just tickled.
Li Zhenzhu wasn't as nervous as before: "Your master won't report me, right? He doesn't seem like a good person, but he doesn't seem like a bad person either."
Looking down at what he was holding, he was a generous person.
While she was in a daze, Xuanfeng suddenly jumped up and shouted, "Help! Help!"
Li Zhenzhu immediately squatted down, peeking out her head, and saw a woman with patched clothes coming out of the dilapidated house.
The woman wore straw sandals, her trousers were rolled up to her knees, and her hair was cut in a messy manner.
Li Zhenzhu covered her mouth, her throat feeling sore.
"Does your leg still hurt? There's no one around now, why don't you go later?" The woman said gently, carrying a tattered basket on her back.
"No need, I'll go with you. I'm worried about you being alone." The man's voice came first.
When Li Zhenzhu saw her father limping out, she couldn't stand up and burst into tears. She had thought about how her parents were not doing well and had suffered a lot.
But the moment she saw it, she still felt like she couldn't breathe.
When Li Decheng heard the sobbing, he looked around warily.
He Xianglan frowned in confusion: "What's wrong?"
Li Decheng looked at the big tree not far away, and a strange feeling suddenly came to his mind: "I think I heard Pearl's voice."
He Xianglan fell silent upon hearing her daughter's name.
Seeing the man hurrying towards that direction, she quickly followed, saying, "Slow down."
As the couple approached, their hearts skipped a beat when they saw the girl squatting there. He Xianglan rushed over without waiting for her husband, but unexpectedly tripped and fell. She lowered her voice and got up, saying, "Pearl."
"Mom." Li Zhenzhu stepped forward, suppressing her sobs.
Li Decheng choked up as well: "What's wrong with you here? Why are you so disobedient?"
Li Zhenzhu squatted down and touched her father's leg, startling Li Decheng into taking a step back.
He Xianglan pulled her up and led her behind the big tree, and Li Decheng quickly followed.
"Pearl, my pearl." He Xianglan touched her daughter's face, looked at her carefully, and hugged her tightly.
Li Decheng stood helplessly to the side, wiping away tears: "What's wrong with your uncle? Why did he let you come here? Did you come alone?"
"Go back quickly, don't let the villagers see you."
Seeing her parents like this, Li Zhenzhu couldn't bear to close her eyes, and large tears fell onto He Xianglan's hands.
“I can’t go back. I saw my uncle’s documents and learned that you were sent down to this place, so I applied to come here to work in the countryside.” Li Zhenzhu lowered her head.
The two were devastated when they heard the news. He Xianglan grabbed her daughter's shoulders and said, "Have your uncle pull some strings to get you back."
"Do you know how many years those educated youth have been sent to the countryside? They can't even go back now. They've all grown old and wasted their lives. What will you do then?"
What if I can never go back?
Li Decheng was also angry, but he didn't want to scold his daughter. He just looked at her with disappointment and said, "You're too willful."
"We entrusted you to your uncle because we didn't want to implicate you, but you..."
Li Zhenzhu followed their lead, but in her heart she was just glad that she had come.
"I want to stay with you, Mom and Dad, please don't send me away." Li Zhenzhu's appearance made the couple cry bitterly.
Seeing that some people were coming out of the cowshed to go to work, Li Decheng hurriedly said, "Alright, Xianglan, let Pearl go back."
"Don't let anyone see this." Then he looked at his daughter: "From now on, you can't talk to us in the village. Just pretend you don't know us. No matter what you see, you can't stand up for us."
Li Zhenzhu opened her mouth: "Dad."
"Did you hear me!" Li Decheng roared. "You must remember what I told you, you understand?"
He doesn't want to criticize her for going to the countryside without permission, but he just wants his daughter to obey him.
