Chapter 9 The Laziest Man in the Countryside 70 (9)
Li Zhenzhu was so tired that her back ached. When she got up and looked up, she saw her parents in the distance. Li Decheng was plowing the field barefoot, holding some kind of farm tool.
Others were working together to dig a pit behind the scenes.
Her mother was throwing a dark, lumpy lump in the field.
Li Zhenzhu felt heartbroken. Looking at them now, it was hard to believe they were once respected doctors.
"Pearl, stop looking," a female educated youth beside her whispered, "so that people won't gossip."
"I was just looking at what they were using to plow the land; I'd never seen anything like it before," Li Zhenzhu said, snapping back to reality.
“In our local dialect, we call it a plowshare, or sometimes a plowshare. The iron block in front is very sharp and works well for tilling the land.” A woman standing up said.
Li Zhenzhu: "If it's so sharp, wouldn't it be easy to get hurt?"
Ji's mother, Wang Xiuju, glanced at the girl, then rested her head on the hoe for a moment: "Just be careful, it's normal to bump and bruise while working."
“They were lucky; people in our village were willing to give them these things. Other villages didn’t care; they only gave the people in the cowshed the worst farm tools and made them do the hardest work.”
Wang Xiuju took off her straw hat and fanned her neck; it was unbearably hot.
It's also incredibly itchy.
Seeing that the aunt was very talkative, Li Zhenzhu continued the conversation: "What was that dark thing that the person behind dropped?"
Wang Xiuju squinted as she looked over. The city kids were so precious; they'd never seen anything like this before.
"That, Jinbaobei, is just a mixture of manure and withered grass. After piling it up for a while, it becomes fertilizer, a good stuff. But you city folks all look down on it."
Wang Xiuju chuckled at her expression and said, "Girl, don't look down on this as manure. People from other villages even fought over it before."
When Li Zhenzhu heard her laugh, she couldn't laugh herself.
Ms. He Xianglan, who used to be a germaphobe, can now touch these things without batting an eye.
He put away his expression and continued working with his head down.
After exchanging a few words with her, Wang Xiuju offered to teach her how to do these tasks most efficiently.
As it was getting dark, Wang Xiuju realized that this girl was actually quite honest, unlike other educated youth who tried to cheat and shirk their duties. Although she worked slowly, she was working hard.
These kinds of people just like obedient, well-behaved children.
Just as I was about to let her rest for a while, I discovered that the girl's eyes were red from crying.
"Oh my, why are you crying, girl?" Wang Xiuju reached out to wipe away the child's tears when she saw her crying.
Her face was flushed from being rubbed by rough palms, and Wang Xiuju muttered, "Your face is so tender."
"What's wrong?" Wang Xiuju was particularly kind-hearted because her husband was the village party secretary: "If you can't do it, then do it slower. Why did you exhaust yourself to tears?"
When He Yingying saw that she was crying from exhaustion, she thought to herself that she was really honest. She could have been lazy and worked hard, but she made herself cry from exhaustion.
"I'm just a little homesick." Li Zhenzhu's face stung a little from the touch of her aunt.
Hearing her say that made her cry even harder: "I miss my family, I'm not crying from exhaustion."
Hearing her say that, Wang Xiuju understood.
This kid is still young, and this is the first time he's been so far from home. He's never done any work like this before. Isn't it unfair that he's done it all?
"Alright, stop crying." Wang Xiuju doesn't have a daughter, but she is like one: "You're not used to it at first, but once you're done with this busy period, go ask Lao Ji for leave to go to town and make a phone call."
"But that's expensive, Auntie suggests you write a letter."
Li Zhenzhu suppressed her urge to look in her parents' direction: "Thank you, Auntie. I'll adjust myself. I've already written the letter home and will mail it when I have time."
"That's good. You young people, we'll be happy as long as you take good care of your families while you're away."
Wang Xiuju found it delightful to see her teary-eyed appearance.
I whispered to her, "Tomorrow you and your aunt will go peanut harvesting together. I'll wait for you at the warehouse."
After saying that, he picked up his hoe and turned to leave.
Li Zhenzhu hadn't reacted yet.
I just felt that the people in this village were really nice.
Fortunately, my parents were assigned here.
(I was afraid some of you might miss my author's note, so I wrote a little bit just to let you know I'm taking the day off today. My lease is expiring, so I went out to look for a new place today. I've rented a bright new room that's closer to where I work part-time, and I can move in next month! So happy!)
