Chapter 15 The Emperor is Heartless and Childless, and the Concubines Make a Hustle

Seeing so many people coming to watch and making fun of her, Yu Yunli was so angry that she yelled at them, "You lowly creatures, what are you laughing at?"

The onlookers were not all lowly commoners and untouchables. There were also a few young men and women from scholar families watching the fun, and even some successful candidates who had come to the capital to take the imperial examinations.

These young men and women of status began to curse Yu Yunli.

The scholar was even more venomous: "I thought all the young ladies in the capital were well-bred ladies, elegant in conversation and dignified in manners. I never imagined this young lady from a noble family would be so vulgar and crude, just like a shrew cursing on the street. Not only is she vulgar, but she's also vicious, even recruiting so many men to come and commit a crime in front of my eldest sister. If any family were unlucky enough to marry her, I'm afraid three generations would be ruined, with no future."

"That's right, whoever marries a young lady like this will be unlucky."

A young lady from a noble family said, "She is just a scumbag among the ladies of a noble family. She can't be considered a lady of a noble family."

A young man from a noble family asked, "Whose family is she from? We should avoid her."

A merchant said, "Young Master, you must be careful. She's the second daughter of the Marquis of Dingping. I heard she and her biological mother have been bullying her eldest sister since she was young. It drove the mistress crazy, and she only recovered recently after divorcing the Marquis of Dingping. The eldest sister was forced to leave the mansion and live here with her mother. And this second daughter is still relentless, bringing so many thugs to beat up the eldest sister."

"Dingping Marquis Mansion Yu Family, my goodness! Today this young master has finally opened his eyes."

When Yu Yunli heard these words, she felt embarrassed and annoyed. She had not yet married, and after hearing these words, she could not help but worry about her own marriage. She was about to explain herself when she saw the carriage of the Marquis' Mansion galloping towards her.

Zou got off the carriage in a hurry.

Seeing the reinforcements coming, Yu Yunli hurried to Zou and cried, "Mom, Yu Jinshu bullied me." She pointed at the onlookers and said, "They bullied me too."

These two sentences made the onlookers laugh again.

"This is truly bizarre. The Second Miss of the Dingping Marquisate is truly amazing at conflating right and wrong."

Zou Shi didn't care about that. She pulled Yu Yunli aside and said in a low voice, "Yun'er, someone came from the palace and said that the selection must still take place and you must enter the palace tomorrow. Also, the emperor's leg was injured and he might be crippled. They also said that the emperor has been in a bad mood recently and might kill someone if he loses his temper."

"Ah!" Yu Yunli was dumbfounded. "What should I do? I don't want to enter the palace, I don't want to..."

"Hush!" Zou hurriedly stopped him, "Yun'er, don't say this outside. You have to go to the palace for the selection tomorrow, and time is running out."

Yu Yunli looked towards Yu Jinshu and was momentarily confused. "Mother, is Yu Jinshu still willing to help me enter the palace?"

If she had known that she would have to enter the palace for selection, she would have been nicer to Yu Jinshu. Now things have turned out like this, and she will have to enter the palace tomorrow.

Now she regrets it so much.

Zou said, "Let's go back home first and let Yu Jinshu calm down. We'll come back this afternoon."

Yu Yunli got on the carriage, and the twenty or so guards withdrew, and the small courtyard became quiet again.

Yu Jinshu looked at the direction where Zou and her mother were going. She knew that it would be lively again soon.

Sure enough, after lunch, the carriage from the Marquis' Mansion arrived.

It was Zou who knocked on the door. When Xiao Chao saw it was Zou, he was so scared that he ran in quickly.

Yu Jinshu walked out holding Wen's hand.

This time, Zou's expression completely changed. She smiled and told the servants to carry things into the small courtyard.

Mrs. Wen said coldly, "Zou Manmiao, what are you doing?"

Zou smiled as she walked over to Wen and pointed to a mahogany box. "Here's five thousand taels of silver," she said. "It was all my fault for causing you to suffer some injustice in the mansion. These five thousand taels of silver are my compensation to you."

Yu Jinshu said coldly, "You say it so lightly. Did my mother just suffer some injustice? What's the point of these five thousand taels of silver? They are the deductions from my mother and my monthly salary. Shouldn't you return it to me and my mother?"

Zou smiled awkwardly: "Yes, yes, even if it is so, right?"

She was secretly thinking in her heart that she would wait for Yu Jinshu to enter the palace first. As long as Yu Jinshu entered the palace in place of Yun'er, she would find a way to get all the money and other things back.

Yu Jinshu pointed to a dozen other large boxes and asked, "What about those?"

Zou said, "These are the ten thousand taels of gold and twenty thousand taels of silver you will need to enter the palace. They are all neatly stacked inside."

Yu Jinshu crossed his arms and stared at Zou with suspicion, "You want me to enter the palace in your daughter's place, right?"

Zou smiled and nodded, "That's right, that's right. We had agreed on it before, but then we said we didn't need it anymore. But early this morning, someone came from the palace again, saying that they wanted to enter the palace for the selection."

As she spoke, she asked the guards to close the gate and the servants to open the boxes. Under the sunlight, the golden and white gold and silver in the boxes were so dazzling that they almost blinded everyone's eyes.

Yu Jinshu: "You brought so much gold and silver to my mother's small house. Don't worry about someone getting attention and attracting bandits."

Zou smiled and said, "I just brought it here for you to see. Please go back home and dress up. You have to go to the palace early tomorrow morning."

Yu Jinshu smiled and said, "You can let me enter the palace, but I have two conditions."

"Ah!" Zou said impatiently, "Last time you said you had two conditions. One was to let your mother divorce and buy her a house; the second was to give her so much gold and silver. I agreed to both, so why do you still have conditions?"

After the last incident, she knew that Yu Jinshu’s conditions would definitely not be easy to agree to.

Yu Jinshu turned his head away and said coldly, "If you don't agree to my two conditions, please leave!"
